(Freya's POV).
"How do you know my apartment and how did you get in?"
"Your friend." I brushed Devan's hand away roughly.
"My friend?" he raised eleven eyebrows. "Jason?"
"Yeah. Now get out of my way, Dev. I want to go home!" I exclaimed irritably. I pushed him aside and walked into the living room to get my bag.
"Did you call Jason?"
"Of course I did. You called me and there wasn't a sound except for things breaking! What person do you think would stay quiet after hearing something like that?" I turned around and looked at him with my eyes bulging. "I had to call Jason and tell him to check on you. But he told me to come myself."
I picked up my bag in annoyance and looked back at him.
"He told me the apartment and the password," I explained.
I didn't want any misunderstandings between us and make him think that I cared or was worried about him. I had to keep my distance from him to avoid any bigger problems.
"Are you mad at me?" He ran up and blocked my way again. Staring at me with a pair of black eyes that dimmed. His face still looked pale.
"What am I mad at you for?"
"Your attitude is different from last night."
"What was I like last night?"
"You were very sweet...."
I snorted. "Am I baby lotion?" I protested.
"Let me take you home." He continued to push me.
"Look, I'll be honest with you. Tristan doesn't like to see me anywhere near you, so it's not a good idea for you to drive me home. And I told him that last night I was waiting for my lady friend who was sick, so stay home and let me go," I explained.
I had to glare at him to make sure he understood everything I said.
He looked disappointed.
"Alright, but... can I take you to lunch later?"
"I can't. I have a meeting and I'm really busy these days."
"Weekends?"
I paused, staring at him intently.
"I can't."
"Why?" he asked.
"Family matters," I replied.
I left immediately. Rushed into the elevator and let out a long sigh. It was very difficult to deal with Devan who continued to be stubborn like earlier.
I shouldn't have been so nice to him. I have to be more strict with him and make sure that there is no chance for him to get close to me. Because I don't want to go back to him again. Especially after everything he did to me and Theo.
There was no way I could just forget him.
At that moment, I heard my cell phone ring. I quickly picked it up when I saw Tristan's name on the screen.
"Hello, Tristan?"
"Are you still at your friend's house?" he asked.
"I'm in the elevator. On my way home. Why?"
"I'm already at your house. Adam woke up early this morning and wanted to be taken home. I helped him get ready for school, but he insisted on waiting for you to have breakfast together."
I let out a long breath. "Oh, okay. Tell him I'll be home soon," I said feeling guilty.
"Okay. We'll wait for you."
"Thank you for looking after Adam. I'm sorry if I keep bothering you, Tristan," I said.
"It's no problem. We're family."
I couldn't hide my smile. "Yes, family."
Our conversation ended then and there and the elevator opened. In the underground parking area. I got out while busily checking where my car keys were because I hadn't found them at all.
Now and then I checked in front of me to make sure I hadn't bumped into anything.
At that moment, my cell phone buzzed and I stopped to check it.
(You ignored my warning.)
I froze in place. My hands trembled as I read the message I received from Anonymous. Reflexively, I immediately turned my head in all directions with horror exploding in my heart. My heart was beating very fast.
Where was it? Where was that person?
(I warned you not to meet other men.)
Again, the message came in from anonymous and I got even more goosebumps. I paled, constantly looking in all directions to make sure that no one was there. But the place was deserted and a little dark. There was no one and only me there. Standing in the silence.
(Looks like you'd rather me go there and warn you in person.)
I dropped my cell phone in shock. My eyes bulged with my heart beating very fast. My body was trembling. Cold sweat soaked my neck and forehead.
I hurriedly picked up my dropped phone when I heard the sound of the elevator opening. I ran quickly to my car.
I was terrified. The sound of footsteps made me dare not look back. Was it him? The person who secretly followed me?
My hands were shaking as I ran while looking for my car keys. They were shaking so much that I couldn't look for them properly while I was already standing by my car door.
Come on, please! I shouted silently.
Where were my car keys?!
My heart felt like it was stopping as I heard the sound of those footsteps getting closer to me. My body suddenly stiffened. I could only stand and pray, hoping that someone would help me. I grabbed my cell phone, almost pressing the emergency button until I felt something touch my shoulder.
"No, no!" I shouted hysterically. I closed my eyes as I hit it repeatedly.
"Vivian? Vivian... it's me!" I widened my eyes, realizing that it was Devan's voice. "Vivian?"
As I cast my gaze in all directions, I found no one else but him. I fell to the floor with a trembling body.
"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you scared like this?" I saw the worry on Devan's face.
Both of his hands touched my trembling hands.
"Vivian? What's wrong?" he shouted. "Hey, Vivian!"
I didn't know what was happening to me. But I couldn't think straight. I was too scared and felt that he was still there. Watching us in the darkness. Making me shudder with fear.
I unconsciously cried while looking at Devan.
"Shit!" he immediately hugged me very tightly. Burying my face inside his chest.
