(Devan's POV).
I gasped as I woke up with my breath catching and sweat pouring down my body. I sat up with both hands rubbing my face. I glanced at the balcony of my room and the day was still long.
Damn.
Why was I dreaming of Freya at a time like this?
Ever since I found out that Freya wasn't Theo's real sister. I keep feeling uneasy. A feeling that makes me so uncomfortable that I couldn't focus on anything. I kept thinking about Freya. Even the memory of how she cried while looking at me.
I groaned. "Fuck. Why is this happening?" I grabbed my hair in frustration.
I got off the bed and tried to take a shower. To make my mind calmer than before, but the image of Freya kept popping up in my head.
"Damn... shit!" I cursed loudly as I let my body splash under the shower.
In the morning, I called my secretary to cancel all of today's schedules. I have to go to the police station to see Freya. She must be there to take care of Theo's death.
I didn't kill him. I should have, but I didn't. That's why I'm confused and need to find out why Theo killed himself.
And confirm the one thing that'd been bothering me since yesterday.
The truth about Freya...
My gaze turned sharp when I saw Jason talking to his lawyer at the police station. He glanced at me when he noticed me.
"What are you doing here?" he asked gruffly as I walked up to him.
"Where's Freya?" I ignored his question.
He laughed. "What are you asking Freya for? And why are you here? Aren't you afraid that your crime will be discovered by the police and you'll be in jail in no time!"
"I didn't kill him," I insisted. I glare at him sharply. My hands were clenched into fists, holding back my anger. I could feel lawyer Jason's hands pushing my body away from him.
"Please stay calm. We're at the police station now," he said.
I clucked in annoyance as I glanced at Jason's lawyer. Then looked back at Jason. "Follow me," I ordered.
I turned and walked out and I could feel Jason following me from behind. I took him to the parking lot for a one-on-one talk.
"Say what you want to say. I'm busy and need to get going," Jason said in a terse tone.
"Where's Freya?"
"Why are you asking about her? Aren't you satisfied with killing Theo and now you're obsessed with hurting her?!" he snapped. His eyes flashed with anger.
"Just answer where she is... She is my wife. I can rat you out about you running off with my wife," I threatened.
He laughed mockingly. "Since when did you claim her as your wife, huh? You can't even be called a good husband. So, why are you pretending to be her husband?!"
"WHERE IS SHE!" I grabbed him by the collar in a burst of anger, but he let go by pushing me. Making me swear loudly as he punched me in the face.
"Stop acting up, Dev! Your relationship with Freya is over. She no longer loves you and stops bothering her. You've hurt her enough. Give her her freedom and let her be happy with the path she has chosen."
I looked at Jason. "Who do you think you are to patronize me, huh?!" I snapped.
"It's about Freya, so I'm not going to keep quiet. If you still care about her, let her go."
"I won't let her go. Never," I hissed.
"You must be out of your mind. Aren't you ashamed of what you've done to her?"
"She is my wife."
"Yes, but Freya has filed for divorce! You killed Theo, Dev. Do you think Freya will come back to you?"
"I didn't kill him!" I insisted. My voice echoed through the parking lot.
"You think I'm going to believe you?"
"Whatever, but I didn't kill anyone."
He snorted in annoyance. "Are you being this stubborn because of your remorse? Because you know that Freya isn't Theo's biological sister. Is that why you insisted on bringing her back?"
"Is she really not Theo's biological sister?"
Jason laughed. I clenched my fist to hold my temper. Right now I felt like my pride was being trampled on by him.
"Theo said, that Freya isn't his biological sister," he says, then looks at me sharply. With a warning look. "Listen, Dev. Now, Freya is mine. She is my responsibility. And I won't let you take her away from me. No matter if our friendship is at stake."
"Try to take her away from me, because she will never love you," I hissed, trying to make his pride crumble, but he grinned.
"I proposed to her. And she accepted me. So, just focus on your divorce and never show up in Freya's presence again. Do you understand?"
I gasped with my hands clenched into fists. My eyes were darkened by my exploding anger. For some reason, I felt a tightness in my chest that I couldn't explain.
"Do you think I believe what you say?"
"Do you think I'm lying?" he asked in a mocking tone. "It's useless, Dev. Even if you regret what you did now, you'll never get Freya's forgiveness. In her memory, you are her brother's killer. Who do you think would love a man who killed the only family she had, hm?"
My teeth chattered as I stared at her. "You... I swear, that you will never get her."
"Just think for yourself. My relationship with Freya, I'll take care of it. And you... don't ever beg her for love just because of that regret of yours. Because that makes you look like a disgusting man in Freya's eyes."
After saying all that, Jason walked away from me. His bright smile as if he had won made me feel so sick.
"Asshole!!!"
I will never let anyone have Freya. Never....
Because she is only mine. Forever...
