(FREYA'S POV).
Dizzy. The first thing I felt when I opened my eyes. I blinked, breathing slowly while swallowing my saliva with difficulty. I looked around.
This is Devan's room. And I was lying on his bed. I remembered what happened to us. I fainted after all the horrible tragedies I experienced.
I winced as my head throbbed. In the next second, I realized my hand was already attached to an IV as I was about to touch my head.
Since when? How long had I been unconscious?
I tried to calm myself down. Thinking of all the possibilities. Slowly, I turned my head to the side to check on Devan's whereabouts, but he wasn't beside me.
Where is he? Did he lock me in his room again?
That thought made me panic. I took a deep breath as I tried to stand up, but the dizziness in my head attacked me again. I grimaced, went back to sleep, but quickly sat up again as the pain slowly began to fade.
I looked down at my hand, which had a band-aid on it. Also, the IV bottle only had half of it left. I looked out the window and it was already night and raining heavily with occasional flashes of lightning followed by thunder.
I stared at the balcony with the curtains still open. Showing how the lightning made the night look like broad daylight. It made me feel a sense of horror and an uneasy feeling that made me uncomfortable.
"Already awake?" I turned my head to the side in surprise as I heard Devan's cold voice ringing in my ears. He was already near the bed in his sleeping pajamas.
My eyes widened. All my senses were on alert as he walked over to me. Just when I thought he was going to sit beside me, I saw him walking straight towards the balcony. Carelessly pulling the curtains to cover the entire balcony door.
I noticed his hand as he pulled the curtain. He was using his left hand, while his right hand looked bandaged. The wound must be pretty deep considering the amount of blood dripping on the floor, I thought.
But then I immediately glared at him as he turned around and dropped his gaze to me. With a flat expression that made me even more anxious inside.
I swallowed hard. Clutching my blanket with an uneasy feeling as he walked over to me.
"Go back to sleep," he ordered.
I was surprised to see him looking so calm as if nothing had happened between us. His hand was even injured, and my neck... I had forgotten the fact that my neck was also injured.
I reflexively touched my neck which also had a band-aid on it. Of course, it wasn't as big as the wound on her hand. And he was watching me, watching my actions with his sharp eyes.
"Why did you bring me here?"
"Do you want to sleep in your room?"
"No."
I swallowed my saliva. Biting my lower lip nervously. I didn't want to be locked up again. But I also didn't know if he would lock me up here too or not.
"Then go back to sleep," he said.
I didn't answer and just watched as he walked casually to the other side of the bed. Moved up the bed and slept next to me. With both hands that he used as pillows. He closed his eyes without saying anything else.
What's going on?
I couldn't read his mind at all. I had no idea what he wanted, what was going through his head, and why he changed his attitude every time.
Was he really sleeping?
I felt a trust issue. I couldn't relax without knowing what would happen to me next. But Devan's silence made me feel even more uneasy.
"Why?"
My eyes widened as he suddenly turned to me, looking at me with black eyes as dark as the bottom of the ocean. As if pulling me into them until I was trapped there, losing my breath without being able to do anything.
"Please don't lock me in my room again. I beg you," I said softly. My heart beat very fast as he stared at me without saying anything.
He suddenly moved closer, reaching out to me with his body so close. I squealed, closing my eyes in fear. I thought something bad was going to happen to me again, but I got nothing but silence.
When I opened my eyes, he was already sitting beside me. Looking at me silently.
"What the—"
"Look to the side."
I followed his orders and saw that the top drawer of the desk was open and there was a key inside. I looked back at him with a confused look. "What's this?"
"Room key."
I paused. It took me a long time to understand what she said until I realized. I looked into his eyes in disbelief.
"As long as you behave yourself, I won't lock you in your room," he warned. He seemed to understand the meaning of the look in my eyes.
"I told you, I didn't do anything," I instantly shut up as I heard him chuckle in annoyance. My eyes widened. I shouldn't have digressed when he was in a good mood like this and made him angry again. "Sorry. I won't do it again," I corrected.
"Now go to bed," he ordered.
I watched as he lay back down beside me. He immediately closed my eyes so casually. I then lay down too. Sleeping with my back to him. I looked up at the balcony that faintly showed the lightning striking in turn.
I shivered under the blanket. I couldn't close my eyes, nor could I sleep. Whenever it rained with lightning and thunder, I always felt an overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety. I grabbed my other wrist. I gripped it tightly, trying to calm myself down.
I gasped as I felt Devan's hand suddenly slide inside my blanket. Wrapping his burly arms around my waist tightly. I could feel his body pressed against my back.
"What are you doing," I whispered in a trembling voice. I tried to turn around, but he only tightened his embrace even more.
"Just sleep. I'm too tired to argue." His warm breath caressed the back of my neck, making me shudder in horror.
"Butー"
"Don't worry," he growled. "I won't do anything."
I held my breath nervously. I feel his hand grasping my hand tightly. My body, which was trembling at first, slowly began to calm down. The piercing cold turned into heat coming from him. From his embrace that felt like a prison was also a protective confinement.
