(Freya's POV).
"What happened?" Devan asked again after he released his hug. He had taken me to the room because he didn't want the other guests to see me crying or they would think something bad about us.
I kept sobbing. I tried to stop crying, but I couldn't. Devan was getting agitated and worried, but he kept his cool by patting my arm, trying to calm me down. He also gently wiped away my tears.
"Fey," he called softly. "Hey, my love. Calm down, I'm here. Don't cry anymore," he said while hugging me tightly again.
I sobbed again. My tears break and my body trembles violently. The figure of Theo standing next to Adam, smiling, was still vivid in my mind. I thought I was crazy for imagining Theo was there, but it felt so real that it made my body shudder in horror.
"Sshh... calm down. I am here. If you are still not satisfied with crying, then cry. I will stay by your side until you feel calm," he whispered near my ear.
I let myself cry in Devan's arms. His embrace was so warm and soothing to me. And slowly, the pain and longing began to heal. I let go of his embrace and Devan gently brushed my cheek with his warm fingers.
"Feeling better?" he asked, looking at me gently.
I nodded. Still trying to control myself. Devan attentively took my hair and pulled it behind my ear. He also tidied up my messy hair as well.
"Can you tell me why you're crying all of a sudden?" he asked, "You're not crying because of me, right? Did I do something wrong to make you sad? Or did a guest disturb you?" He kept asking me questions with a worried look on his face.
I shook my head quickly. "Nothing is bothering me, Dev. And I'm not crying because of you either," I replied. He looked relieved after hearing my answer, but his worried expression still lingered on his face.
"Then what happened to you? Tell me, don't make me worry, Fey," he pleaded.
"I... I saw him," I said as I bit my lip nervously.
"Who is he?" Devan's face paled. He held my arm nervously.
"Theo," I said. I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. "I saw Theo standing next to Adam smiling at me."
"Wh-what?"
I knew what I was saying to him felt like nonsense. But I could feel it and I was sure that it wasn't just a hallucination.
"I really saw him. For years I never dreamt of it again and for the first time, I saw it again, Dev. It felt so real to me."
"Okay. I understand. Just think that Theo is there. Maybe he wants to see that you have found your happiness. Because he's your brother, so he wants to make sure that you're okay," Devan said.
I cried silently again and Devan immediately hugged me tightly. I felt so emotional with all the things that were happening to me.
"I thought I was dreaming, but Theo's presence felt so real," I whispered.
"I knew he came to check on you two. His sister and nephew. You should be happy that Theo must be at peace there. He's secretly watching you," Devan said. He stroked my hair, trying to calm me down. "Don't cry anymore. I'm sure Theo won't like seeing you cry like this."
I nodded. Trying to stop my crying. Perhaps, what Devan said was true. He came to make sure that I had found my happiness. He just wanted to see me and Adam one last time. Even if it was only for a moment, it was enough to make up for all the longing I had for Theo.
"From now on, I'm the one who will take Theo's place. I will take care of you and Adam. I will never let you two be lonely again and make sure you are always happy," Devan said. He covered my face and looked at me with his black eyes that radiated love.
I nodded. Letting him kiss my lips. Having Devan and Adam in my life makes me feel so lucky. If Theo is really paying attention to me, I hope he sees this. I've returned into the arms of the man I love so much and have an adorable son like Adam. I hope he's also happy to see me happy with Adam and Devan.
"Stay here until you feel better," Devan said as he kissed my forehead.
"You're leaving?" I tugged on his hand as he got out of bed. I looked at her with my teary eyes.
"Do you want me to stay here with you?" he asked.
I nodded quickly. "Can't you? Keep me here and we can go back to the party together," I said in a soft voice.
"Okay. Then I'll tell Aiden to look after Adam." He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his cell phone. Immediately contacted Aiden on the spot. "It's me. Freya is tired and I'm taking her to her room. If Mom and Dad ask about us, tell them I'm keeping her company in the room and will come back once Freya is feeling better... Hm, yes. Thanks."
"How was it?" I asked as soon as Devan finished talking to Aiden on the phone.
"You don't have to worry," he said. He put his phone down on the bed and sat beside me. Stroking my face with his warm palm. "How about this weekend we go to Theo's funeral?" he suddenly offered.
"T-Theo's funeral?"
"Yes. Did you ever take Adam to visit his uncle?"
I shook my head in response. "I don't even come very often because I'm afraid of Mom and Adrianne finding out. And I'm also scared if I meet you," I said hoarsely.
"Then we can invite Adam to visit Theo. I'm sure Theo will feel happier when his nephew visits him."
"Thank you, Dev," I whispered. I hugged him tightly again.
"Everything is getting better. So, let's live our lives well and forget all the bad memories that have happened," Devan said.
I closed my eyes, trying to calm myself down. While Devan kept hugging me so tightly, making me feel like I was being well looked after and loved by him.
