(Freya's POV).
"Mom...!!! Mom...!!! See what daddy bought for me!"
I smiled and walked straight to Adam when I saw him running towards us holding two toys in his hands.
"Adam, don't run around, okay? You've just recovered," I said.
"Uh, sorry. I was so excited that I forgot. Mom, look, it's good, right?" With an innocent expression, Adam showed me the toy in his hand. He looks so happy and his smile doesn't leave his face.
It's been a long time since I've seen Adam this happy and I'm so grateful that it's all thanks to Devan being by our side.
"I'll buy more toys for you. You can choose, Adam," Devan said. I looked up to look at him and I saw he was smiling broadly.
"Dev, I told you not to spoil him," I protested.
"It's okay. As long as he's growing up, I'm not by his side. I just want to make up for all the lost time and try to give him the best," he said.
"I love you, Daddy!" Adam exclaimed. I was speechless as Adam hugged his father tightly. There was nothing I could do if Devan and Adam were together.
"If you're feeling jealous because I bought a lot of toys for Adam, you can also shop for as many clothes as you want, hm?" he grinned as he ran his fingers through my hair.
"Are you now equating me with Adam? Dev, come on," I protested. I patted his arm in annoyance, but I felt so happy like butterflies were fluttering in my stomach when he pampered me. It felt like he really cared and loved me. The thing I've always wanted from him since forever.
"Why? Do you want something else?" he whispered while teasing me and I immediately pushed him away.
"It's not that easy, Dev." I knew what he was thinking. When I rejected him, he did have a look of disappointment that looked so funny in my eyes.
"Adam, look how strict your mom is with me. She really doesn't go easy on me," said Devan.
"Did you make another mistake for mom?" asked Adam.
I chuckled. "Kids even understand it, Dev," I teased.
Devan just chuckled as he pinched Adam's chubby cheeks. I looked at Adam and Devan in turn. I hope this happiness continues and will never be destroyed.
At that moment, I heard the bell ringing from the door. I immediately looked at Devan with a furrowed brow.
"Who? Did you order food from outside?" I asked, confused.
"Um, it looks like they've arrived. Open the door for me," Devan said.
I looked at Devan again before standing up and walking towards the door. When I opened it, I was shocked to see Aiden and Devan's parents.
"Fey!!!" Aiden exclaimed. He immediately lunged at me with his arms and I almost had trouble resisting as I staggered backward. I was so shocked I didn't know how to react.
"A-Aiden..."
"Fey, I missed you so much!" he exclaimed while shaking my body.
I just gaped, looking at Aiden and Devan's parents in turn. "H-How come you guys are here?" I asked in confusion.
"I brought them. We got on the same plane and they stayed at the hotel. They've come to surprise you," said Devan, who was walking towards us with Adam in his arms.
"Dev..."
"When I told them you were Freya, they couldn't wait to meet you. Especially since mom and dad were so excited to see their grandson," Devan said.
My face turns red when Devan mentions the word grandson. This was the first time I felt the warmth of family after a long separation from Devan. And I never imagined a moment like this would come in my life.
"Freya," Devan's mom called. She walked over to me and hugged me. "I'm sorry for everything. And thank you for sticking it out. I know it must have been hard for you, but you made it through," she said.
I felt so moved and wanted to cry. The warmth of his embrace that I haven't felt in a long time. I miss her so much. She was the best mom I knew and I loved her so much.
I couldn't stop my tears from falling.
"I also apologize for everything. And thank you," I said. I didn't know what to say, but I was deeply touched by the affection they had for me.
"Sshh, my dear. Don't cry," she said.
"Fey, you must never forget that we are family. No matter what happens you're still my favorite," Aiden said.
"She's my wife, Dude," Devan chirped. I looked straight at him.
"Dev."
"Just kidding," he chuckled. He wiped away my tears.
Devan kept winning me over as I cried while Devan and Aiden's parents were busy playing with Adam. They seemed so happy to know that Adam was their grandson and Aiden had a nephew. They kept saying that Adam was like a little version of Devan.
I felt very happy at that moment. I didn't expect Devan to bring his family here for me. He was really trying his best to make me happy.
"Are you happy they came here?" Devan asked.
I nodded with a big smile. "I'm very happy. Thank you, Dev."
"They were very worried when I told them that Adam was hospitalized. But I tried to calm them down so that they could come to see Adam after he was discharged from the hospital," she shared.
"Yes. They seem to love Adam, and Adam seems happy too," I said.
"Fey, when are you going back to New York?"
"Wh-what?" I gaped at Aiden's question, leaving me speechless. Devan immediately glanced sharply at me, as if he was also waiting for an answer from me.
It's been two weeks since Devan asked me to come back to New York but I haven't given him an answer until now. And he has actually bought a penthouse just for me and Adam.
"Oh, that's..." I scratched my cheek so that it wasn't itchy. It felt so awkward because I didn't know what to answer.
"Well, no matter where, I'll stay by Freya's side. All decisions are in her hands," Devan said.
His words backfired on me. I felt so guilty for Devan because he had done everything for me, but I hadn't even done anything for him.
"I'm thinking of going back to New York with Devan once Adam is better," I said and I saw Devan's surprised face when he looked at me.
