(Freya's POV)
"Vivian!"
I almost fell over as I felt my body go limp without power. Tristan quickly reached my body and held it firmly. His face panicked when he saw the state I was in.
"What should I do?" I asked in a sobbing voice. I continued to stare at Tristan with my tears welling up. "Tristan, what should I do now? I don't want to lose Devan," I whimpered.
"You won't lose him, Vivian," he said, smiling at me.
I wiped away my tears as my vision blurred. "Why? Why did you..."
"Because he's fine?" he cut me off.
"Wh-What?" I looked at him confused. Right now I was looking at Tristan's happy face and I didn't understand a word he said. I was so devastated that I couldn't seem to think straight. "W- What are you talking about?" I asked again.
Tristan didn't say anything else and just glanced at the door of the room. At that moment, I saw the door open and revealed the figure of Devan standing in the doorway smiling at me.
"Freya..."
"Devan?" I whispered in disbelief. "Devan? N-no way..." I dashed towards him without a care in the world. It was like a dream as I felt the warmth spread through my body when I hugged him so hard.
I closed my eyes because I didn't dare to look at Devan's face. I was afraid it was just my hallucination because of my greed that wanted Devan to stay beside me. And cried my heart out in Devan's arms.
"Freya." I gasped as I heard Devan's voice calling me.
I shook my head in disbelief. I was so afraid to lift my face to look at him. But I felt him pushing my body, forcing me to look at him.
My tears fell uncontrollably again as I saw the face of the man I loved and at that moment I realized that it wasn't a dream. My hands trembled violently as I covered his face while sobbing. His smiling face .... was really Devan.
"Devan?" I called out.
"Yes. It's me. I'm here," he said, wiping away tears with his fingers. "Did I scare you?"
"B-But Tristan...." I looked back and I saw Tristan smiling at me.
"Sorry for deceiving you. I deliberately said something like that because I was told that Devan was on his way here and just wanted to show Devan your true feelings. If I don't do this, you won't be able to solve your problems," Tristan said.
I looked at Devan. "So are you okay?" I'm still feeling incredulous that this Devan in front of me wasn't just my hallucination.
"Yes. I'm fine."
"Are you really Devan?" I asked, again. And he nodded as he hugged me tightly.
I was sobbing in Devan's arms. I didn't care if it was just a lie perpetrated by Tristan or Devan, but I really felt so grateful for seeing Devan okay. That was more than enough for me.
"I'm sorry for making you worry," he said, "and thank you for still loving me."
"But the news is...."
"I did get shot, but it only hit my arm," he informed while touching his left arm.
"A-arm?"
Devan pulled the collar of his shirt up so I could see the bandage wrapped around his wound. He was really shot and my eyes fluttered with fear and worry.
"It must have hurt a lot. Are you okay? How... no, you got here, you should be in the hospital..." I babbled incoherently while shaking my head. My mind was a complete mess at that moment.
"Sshh... calm down. I'm fine and the doctor has already bandaged my wound. I was afraid you would go into shock and I came back here as soon as I was treated. I didn't want to be away from you," he said. He gently rubbed my cheek. His faint smile made my heart feel warm with relief and gratitude.
"Oh, my God... do you know how scared I was when I saw the news? I thought I was going to lose you. I thought I..." my hands were shaking violently and I gripped Devan's arm tightly. I didn't want to let go anymore, not from now on.
"I'm sorry. You must have been shocked after seeing the news," he said, "I'm sorry for all the things Viona has done to you. If it wasn't for me, Theo and Adam... they would haveー"
"It's not your fault," I cut him off quickly. I shook my head in disagreement with his statement. "I don't care about all that anymore. Adam is fine and so are you. I want nothing more than to see you both."
"Freya..."
"Please don't leave me again," I said, sobbing, "I love you. Love you so much even then and now. Devan, I love you. ...." I couldn't control this rumbling in my heart and I let myself be drowned by all the feelings I had for him.
I was surprised to see Devan crying and kissing me. His lips were warm and wet from our merged tears.
"I love you so much more. So much that I want to die," he whispered over my lips. "I swore I would never leave you. And treat you and Adam well. Stay by my side and let me guard you with my life."
I nodded, letting him go back to kissing me for a long time. I hugged him tightly and strongly. I didn't want to let him go from my life.
I wanted to give myself the courage to start a new life together with him and Devan. Just for once, I wanted to be greedy and keep Devan by my side even though I was the source of misfortune.
"Akh..."
"Uh, are you okay?" I gasped as I heard Devan groan in pain. I hurriedly looked at him with panic on my face. "Did I hurt you?"
He chuckled as he rubbed my cheek. "I'm fine. It's much better after I saw you."
"What is the power of love?" I heard Tristan speak up.
Devan gave a small smile. "It's much more than that. She is my lifeblood," he confessed. My face turned red.
Now, I felt that I had seen that happiness waiting for me in plain sight. And I can grab it easily with both hands.
