(Devan's POV).
I felt very relieved that Adam was doing well. Thank God for protecting him, because if something bad had happened to him, I would never have forgiven myself. Because I haven't been a good father to him and want to repay my debt.
"The doctor said that Adam is fine, so you don't need to worry anymore," I told Freya. I hold her body and tell her to sit on the chair.
She nodded, still crying. "Thank you. I'm really grateful that you helped him."
"Hey, what are you talking about? Adam is my son. It's only right that I help him. I was even willing to give up my life to help him," I told her. I held Freya's hand tightly.
She continues to cry and I try to calm her down. I knew she was still anxious and scared even though the doctor had told her that Adam had passed his critical period, but as a mother, that worry wouldn't go away until she saw her son's face.
After that, Adam was taken to the VIP room. Freya sat by Adam's side the whole time waiting for him to wake up. And I stayed by her side looking after her.
"Freya, go to sleep first. It's getting late. Let me take care of him," I told her.
"No, I wantー"
"Please listen to what I'm saying," I said, "You haven't rested since last night. Go to sleep and let me take over."
"All right," she whispered.
I take hold of Freya's body and lead her to the long sofa. I get a blanket for her and kiss her forehead.
"Go to sleep," I told her.
I rubbed her cheek gently and she closed her eyes. I stayed by her side for a few minutes to make sure she was really asleep, then I moved and approached Adam's bed. I sat on the edge of the bed looking down at Adam who was still unconscious.
He really looked like me when I was a kid. No wonder the first time I saw him, I felt a bond that words can't explain. I felt like I was seeing myself in a mirror reflection. I immediately felt affection for him, and it turned out that he was indeed my son.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't by your side when you grew this big," I said as I took Adam's tiny hand. "I promise I'll make up for lost time and do my best as a father. You will no longer lack affection," I whispered.
He must have dreamed of having a father all along. And Freya must have struggled during her pregnancy with Adam without me by her side. Especially when she gave birth and took care of Adam since he was a child.
I covered my face with my hands. I felt a deep sadness at the thought of it all. I felt so guilty for letting Freya and Adam live their lives without me by their side.
If only I could have restrained myself back then, none of this would have happened.
At that moment, I heard my cell phone ring and I immediately picked it up when I saw Jason's name appear on my phone screen.
"Hm?"
"How? Did you find Freya? Why haven't you told me until now?" asked Jason from the other side of the phone.
I sighed and walked closer to the window. Staring outside where the streets were still busy even though it was already midnight.
"There's a problem going on," I said.
"What problem? But you found Freya, right?"
"Yes. I found her. But Adam had an accident and now I'm at the hospital accompanying them," I told him.
"Adam?! Shit. What's going on? Is he okay?!" I could hear Jason's squealing screams. I'm sure he's worried too because I know he cares about Adam and Freya. Given how their relationship was in the past.
"He has passed his critical period and is now in the common room," I said.
"Thank goodness!" I heard Jason sigh heavily. "I actually contacted you because I have something to tell you, but you're also in trouble right now soー"
"Just tell me. What's wrong?" I asked, cutting him off.
I glance at Freya to make sure she's still fast asleep and not disturbed by my voice.
"It's about Viona."
"What's wrong with her again? Didn't you take care of the problem? She should be busy with the trial right now."
"He ran away. The police are trying to find her," Jason said.
"Ran away?" my eyes widened in surprise. My jaw hardened and my hands clenched into fists with feelings of anger and anxiety. I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of dread. "Since when? How did it happen?" I hissed. I wanted to ask out loud but I tried to restrain myself because I didn't want to wake Freya up.
"Since three days ago."
"Shit." I massaged my temples. My head feels like it's going to explode from all the problems that keep coming and there's no bright spot at all. It made me so tired, but I couldn't break this down easily because I had two precious people to protect.
"Don't worry. She's been put on the wanted list and she'll be found soon. You take care of Adam and Freya, I'll take care of the problems here," Jason said.
I felt a little relieved to have Jason by my side. I could rely on him for anything. "Thank you, Jason."
"I'll let you know as soon as they find Viona. "
"Hm," I muttered.
I immediately ended our phone call. I walk over to the sofa where Freya is fast asleep. I rubbed her cheek and she squirmed uncomfortably.
"I hope this won't cause any more problems," I whispered. "All I want is a peaceful life with you and Adam."

"Are you leaving?" asked Freya when she saw me putting on my suit.
"Yes, I have to go to the police station to take care of Adam's problem. I've contacted your friend, what's her name?"
"Stella?"
"Yes." I approached Freya and kissed her forehead. "She'll be here soon. And I asked her to accompany you here."
"You don't have to. I can look after Adam alone, Dev," she said with a tired look on her face.
I rubbed her cheek and she closed her eyes briefly. "How can I leave you alone to look after Adam when you look so exhausted like this? I don't want you to get sick too."
She nodded. "Alright."
"I'll be right back. Call me when Adam is awake."
"Yes."
"I love you, Freya."
She was silent as I said it while kissing her lips.
"Dev..."
"I know. You still need time. I will wait until you are ready. For now, let me stay by your side," I said gently.
"Thank you." She hugged me tightly before letting me go.
