(Devan's POV).
I entered the operating room but was taken to another room where two nurses were helping me to take my blood. I lay there for a long time until the nurses had taken several bags of my blood.
'He is your son...'
I still couldn't believe what I was hearing. Even though I had originally thought that Adam was my son, I still can't believe it now. At the time of our separation, it seemed like Freya had deliberately hidden the fact that she was pregnant and secretly left me. His age also matched the time when Freya and I parted ways.
I had even donated my blood, which of course meant that I had the same blood type as Adam. This made me feel quite happy that Freya had been honest with me. Adam is my son.
But on the other hand, I felt uneasy and scared because Adam was hurting. I just hoped the doctors could save Adam and I could get back together with him. I still haven't been a good father to him and I want to make up for all my mistakes, as well as the four years of wasted time. I wanted to be a good father to Adam and I wanted to make him happy.
After I'm done, I come out of the operating room and I see Freya still sitting there waiting. I walk over to her and she does the same too.
"W-What about Adam?" she asked in a trembling voice. I looked at her puffy eyes and pale face. Her hands were trembling as she grasped my hand. Fear was evident on her face and it was unbearable for me to see her like that.
I hugged her and rubbed her back. "Don't worry. The doctor is trying to do his best for Adam."
"I don't want to lose him. I don't know what would happen to me if ... if something bad happened to him," she sobbed. I tightened the hug even more.
"Sshh ... that will never happen. I won't let it," I said. I released my embrace and wiped away her tears with my thumb. "Everything will be okay. Adam will be fine. You believe me, right?"
She kept crying and I kissed her forehead.
"He is my son. He is strong like me," I said. There was a swish in my heart when I said the word my son for the first time. Joy and sadness mixed.
Freya cried again in my arms, and I held her tighter to give her comfort. I deliberately let her cry to let out all her fears and anxieties.
"It's going to be okay," I whispered, stroking his hair.
By now, I had learned that Adam was my son. And when he's healed and out of the hospital. I'll make sure they're safe with me. I want to take care of them and be a good father and husband. To make up for all the mistakes I've made in the past.
"From now on, I will take good care of you so that I will never let something like this happen again," I said. Freya sobbed even more in my arms.
At that moment, I saw two policemen appear and walk over to us. I quickly let go of my hug and saluted them both.
"Hello, we're from the police," he informed me.
"Yes. What is it?" I asked.
"Are you the parents of another hit-and-run victim?"
"Hit-and-run?" I wrinkled my forehead.
"Yes. The witness of the incident said that it was a hit-and-run. And we came here to discuss the matterー"
"No, wait," I quickly cut him off as I felt Freya's body trembling even more. I glance at her and realize her face has paled.
This isn't the right time to talk about this. I'm afraid Freya will go into shock and collapse if we discuss this while Adam is still in the operating room.
"We'd better talk about this later at the police department," I said, "I'll come there to take care of everything and you can talk about it again later," I pleaded with them.
"Is that okay?"
"Yes. My wife is currently in a bad state. I don't want her to go into further shock after hearing everything," I said. I tightened my embrace even more.
"Hm, alright then. I'll wait for you at the police station to take care of all these matters."
"Yes. thank you for understanding," I said.
The two policemen then walked away from us. I was a little relieved that they didn't insist on discussing it here. And I look back at Freya who seems to have calmed down. She doesn't say anything either because I'm sure she's holding back on purpose.
Knowing what happened when Adam got into the accident must have scared her. It was better for her to stay quiet and wait until the doctor came out and told her about Adam's current condition.
"Sit down," I said as I led her to the waiting chair. I knelt before her and wiped away her tears. Her hand came up to touch mine.
"Dev," she called.
"Hm? What's wrong?"
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me. I should have done it. He is my son," I told her, "you are still shaking. I'll go buy you a warm drink."
"Let me buy it!"
I turned my head as I heard a woman. I remembered she was the woman I met at the studio that night.
"It was you," I said.
She smiled awkwardly. "I am Bella, who works with Miss Freya. You stay here to look after Miss Freya. Let me buy her a drink," she offered.
"Then I have a favor to ask," I pleaded.
She nodded and walked away from us. I look back at Freya, who continues to look down with a sad face mixed with lethargy. Not long after, the surgery door opens and the doctor comes out with a nurse following behind. We rushed over and I didn't let go of my embrace of Freya's body.
"How's my son?!" Freya exclaims.
He smiled. "Your son’s condition has improved. Luckily the blood transfusion was done quickly so we were able to take action as soon as possible. And your child will soon be moved to the common room, so you don't have to worry anymore."
"Please move to the VIP room. I'll take care of the payment right now," I said.
"Thank goodness...."
