Chapter 34 I don’t love you, Lila!
Lila
I started packing my things after Daniel the room. He wanted to send in the girls to help me but I declined. It was already late and I didn’t want to disturb them so I just got to it myself. One after the other, I packed everything and by midnight, I was all done. He didn’t say I had to move immediately but I plan on doing that in the morning.
By the time I was done, I was so tired and couldn’t even shower. I just got into bed and slept right off.
When I woke up, it was late into the morning and Daniel had left for work already. It’s not like I have anything to say to him, infact, I liked that he wasn’t home. I was still mad at him for discarding me so easily like I was nothing. There’s nothing I can do anyway, he owes me nothing.
After breakfast, I got two of the male workers to move my things. Daniel had given orders for the suite to be cleaned up so I didn’t have to do anything there. And he was right too. Everywhere was damn beautiful. It had everything and even more.
Daniel wasn’t lying when he said I’d prefer it to the room. It was just too gorgeous.
“Thank you so much,” I said to the men.
“Are you sure you don’t need help with the unpacking?” One of them asked while I nodded.
“Don’t worry about that, I’ve got that covered,” I said and then left.
I looked around first before finally settling to unpack. It felt like a huge task at first but once I started, it became fun and I didn’t even know when I was done with it all. Besides, it’s not as if I have that much things, I came in here after the wedding with only a bag. Every other thing was gotten after the wedding.
When I was finally done, I sunk into the sofa and just stared around. Lunch was delivered to me and I ate it in a rush. After the huge work I did all day, my belly couldn’t stay calm at the sight of food.
It was in the evening when I realized I had forgotten my table photo frame. It’s a picture of Mia and I, and I always have it by my bedside. I love waking up to her smile every morning and in the night when I go to bed. That gives me hope that she’s with me and soon, we won’t have to be apart.
I won’t be able to sleep if I don’t have the picture so I quickly got up and went into the main house to get it.
I was about entering my room when I saw Daniel going into the locked room.
“Why is he going into Eleanor’s room?” I thought to myself, and I know I was supposed to shake off the thought especially because of what happened the last time I tried to cross the line.
I had promised to stay out of his way if he allows me stay in the suite. That was my plan but after the way he cleverly pushed me away, I was curious to know more.
I chased off the voice in my head telling me not to go after him. I waited till he was in the room and then quietly went to the door.
He was on a call with someone and I overhead him asking the person to start a private investigation into Eleanor’s killer.
“What?” I muttered under my breath.
He told me the last time it was an accident so why go back into that past again? The same part that left him broken and lost…
Curiosity got the best of me and I just couldn’t stay silent after then. Once he hung up, I opened the door and entered. He looked furious when he saw me but I didn’t care.
“Why are you looking into her killer agsin when you already told nf it was an accident and the case was closed?” I asked and I saw the anger on his face rise so high.
“How many times have I warned you never to come into this room? Not only did you go against my direct order, you still had the guts to question me after eavesdropping on my call? Are you insane?” He yelled at me and I almost ran out in fear but I didn’t. I can even explain where that confidence came from. I just felt the shyness I usually feel around him vanish in an instant.
“Have you forgotten your place? Why are you in my business??” He yelled again while I scoffed.
“Your business became my business when you confessed your love for me the other night?” I slammed back at him and he immediately went mute. He was surprised I could stand up to him like that but he would be more surprised when he finds out that there’s more where that came from.
“What did you just say to me?” He said fiercely, staring hard at me to intimidate me but I didn’t flinch. Instead, I stared back at him really hard.
“You can’t scare me, Daniel, I won’t let you do that to me. I didn’t force or even ask you before you started telling me everything you said that night. You are not going to turn around now and make me look crazy. No!” I countered and he laughed.
“Good, I think it’s time I let you know I was lying then. I didn’t mean any of those words I said to you. I’m not in love with you, Lila. Not then, not now, and not ever.” He said and he seemed so convincing but I just knew he was lying.
A part of me wanted to believe him but the other part knew he was lying to scare me away. The man that confessed his growing love to me that night wasn’t lying. He was vulnerable and meant it. This man in front of me now is just trying hard to save his ego.
“You’re lying!” I said firmly and he chuckled again.
“So you believe me when I say I love you but won’t believe when I say I don’t? That seems to me like you’re being delusional and that’s not on me. You can’t force things that’s not there.” He said and somehow, that just proved my assumption. He was definitely lying.
“If you’re sure you don’t love me, look into my eyes then and say you don’t.” I let out and he went mute again.
He couldn’t say it and just kept staring at me. He would open his mouth and try to talk but no word would come out and he’d end up swallowing his breath again.
A smirk lined my cheeks and I was about to call out his lie when he suddenly found his voice.
“I don’t… I don’t love you, Lila!” He let out and the words landed heavy on my chest.
Turned out I was wrong. I read it all wrong and he just put me in my place…
