Chapter 98
Cassia was in labor, and Thorn felt like the most useless man in the whole world. He couldn't do anything to ease the pain his wife was feeling; he could only hear his wife's cries and sobs while in the arms of his mother and Cassia's best friend, Zehannah.
Thorn had to take care of a lot of things, Doc. Czarina's orders for his wife's delivery preparations, so he left his wife in his mother's and Zehannah's care. but when he went back, Cassia didn't want to see him anymore, so he had to leave the hospital room where Cassia was and sit in the waiting area outside.
Thorn couldn't count how many sighs he'd had since sitting in the waiting area. His wife hasn't even given birth yet; she's already struggling. He really didn't know what to do. He has no idea. He has read many articles that say to calm down when your wife is in labor or giving birth, but that is very difficult to do.
He keeps rubbing his hands together and clenching his fists. We are constantly sitting, and he is restless as if he is the one to give birth. It's a good thing Cassiuz was still on his way here from Athens, or else that motherfucker would just add to his nervousness because he might even pass out before him.
After hours of worrying and ransacking his brain for ideas on what to do, he finally came up with something. and that was to ask his friends, who were already fathers.
Thorn sent a chat to their group chat that had a different name again.
HOT DADDEEH OVERLOAD?
Yes. It was in caps lock for some reason.
Thorn Calderon: I don't know what to do. My wife's in labor. 911!!!
No one replied, but everyone who saw his message reacted with a thumbs up, and honestly, that was all Thorn needed to see. He knew those lunatics would come. That's just how they were when one of them needed help.
and he was not mistaken—an hour later, the lunatics started arriving one after another, and the next thing Thorn knew, they were overcrowding the hallway in front of his wife's room.
But Train had an amazing idea. With Krisz and his wife's connection and power, they got to use the private room beside Cassia's as their base so they wouldn't clog the hallway. Krisz even gave them chairs and a table for the food the lunatics brought.
And as Thorn watched his friends eat, he thought and immediately regretted asking their GC for help.
"You're here to help," he reminded his crazy friends. "Not to eat."
The lunatics just grunted and continued eating like they weren't inside a hospital. Thorn couldn't do anything but shake his head and sit on the sofa in the room.
"Chill. It was Cali who spoke when he saw Thorn's worried face. "There is really nothing we can do to help with childbirth. What we can do is help after our wife gives birth. That's when the real work begins, after the baby comes out. That's when we are needed the most. So for now, chill out, eat, and then check on your wife from time to time."
Knight spoke while eating a cake. "But you're a new dad, so I think chilling is very hard for you. As for me, my wife has given birth three times, and I'm still scared and nervous all the time."
"I think it's normal for new fathers," Blake interrupted. "Just try to calm down. If you can't, take deep breaths and talk to your wife."
"He doesn't want to see me or talk to me," Thorn said, cutting off Blake's other words. "I wonder why..."
Lander waved his hand in the air dismissively. "There really is something like that. Sometimes, our husbands don't want us to see them struggling."
"Why?" Thorn demanded. "We're part of the reason why they're in pain."
Dark chuckled. "Because they will hit us and curse us with pain."
Knight stopped eating cake and frowned. "My wife is not like that, though; even in labor, she's smiling and calm."
Everyone looked at Knight, giving him a 'your wife is not normal' look, and Knight just shrugged proudly.
"Just endure it," said Zapanta. "Just recover after she gives birth."
Thorn nodded and listened to his friends. There was no reason for him not to listen. Why? Everyone who gave him advice were all fathers, and his marriage only went smoothly because of their advice. Without his friends, he didn't know what he would do when he got married. He didn't make any huge mistakes because of his married friends guidance.
He owes these lunatics, well, sort of.
"Thanks," Thorn said randomly, without context, confusing the people inside the room, so Thorn added, "for being there when I needed help."
The lunatics chuckled, and some smiled at Thorn. They wanted to tease Thorn, but Thorn was being sincere; they didn't have the heart to annoy him.
"One for all, and all for one, remember?" Knight warns Thorn and everyone.
Valerian snorted. "We are the Lunatics-Fucking-Musketeers."
Calyx frowned. "I'm thinking about Power Rangers."
Lath's face immediately crumpled at what Calyx said. "That's proof that you're really old."
Calyx showed his middle finger at Lath. "What old man? I'm still fresh, you know."
"What are you, fish?" Ymar asked Calyx questioningly.
As usual, Calyx answered with his middle finger.
While bickering, Titus randomly spoke. "My son wanted to have a dog."
All attention went to Titus.
"Then give him a dog," Phoenix said, shrugging his shoulders.
Titus sighed. "My son is still young, but his favorite dog is a Siberian Husky."
"Give him a puppy Siberian Husky," snapped Beckett.
Titus sighed. "He wanted a big one."
"It's much better if it's a pup," said Shun.
"I'll ask my wife if she knows someone selling a fucking husky," Valerian interrupted. His wife could help; Grace was a veterinarian, after all.
"Thank you, said Titus.
"Why do you look so down?" Tyron noticed the emotion on Titus' face. It was obvious that she was not happy to give her son a dog.
Titus sighed. "If my son gets a dog, he won't play with me anymore. I'm fucking sad already!"
Pierce spoke after being silent since he arrived. "It's normal. He's growing up, and owning a dog would make him responsible and emotionally intelligent."
Titus tsked. "I don't want him playing with a dog."
"Are you jealous of the dog?" Hunt asked Titus in disbelief.
Valerian sighed at that. "Welcome to my fucking world."
Hunt frowned at Valerian this time. "Are you jealous of the dog too?"
Valerian just drank water and looked away. It obviously doesn't want to talk about it.
"This kind of conversation," Khairro sighed while looking at the bottle of water in his hand. "We should have been with us here."
"I don't want to be killed by my wife," Train said with a wrinkled face. "It's good that he lent us this room, even though no one will give birth to us."
"What you say, the hospital staff is already complaining about us," said Iuhence, then shook his head while eating a cupcake from SM's cafe.
"That too," Train sighed. "They say we are blocking the way. The staff here already know us because of that; they call us 'the handsome ones hanging out in the hallway'."
Iuhence immediately grinned. "Because I was called handsome, I will forgive them."
"Come on, Vergara, come on! Not just you, idiot!" Train tsked. "Wait, why are you here? Pay what you owe me."
Everyone just shook their heads because they knew that the meaningless answers from the two would start again. Even Thorn groaned when Train and Iuhence started bickering again about Iuhence's debt.
And while Train and Iuhence were bickering, the others were having a conversation.
"Why are you all here?" Thorn asked his friends. "Aren't today's weekdays?"
"Just call 911 once," said Khairro, still in uniform. "We'll manage."
Phoenix nodded. "You must be really nervous to call for help."
Thorn nodded before looking down while asking. "Is it really painful to... give birth?"
All the fathers who were cursed by their wives during labor winced.
"My wife loves me dearly, but," Dark grimaced, "she cursed at me non-stop. Like I'm the bad guy and I'm making her suffer."
"Maybe that's why Cassia doesn't want to see you," Cali interrupted. "She's sweet and very nice, so cursing you would make her feel guilty afterwards."
"Does she even know how to curse?" Reigo asked.
Thorn sighed before he got up from the sofa and left the room. The friends who were left inside the room shook their heads. They all understood Thorn. They'd been there.
Thorn stopped in front of the door of the room occupied by his wife, then took a few deep breaths before opening the door.
He felt like his heart was being squeezed tightly when he saw his wife softly sobbing while walking around the room with his mother beside her.
"It's the doctor's order," Zehannah informed Thorn when she saw the concern on his face. "Don't worry. She's tougher than she looks. Just cry about it, but he can handle it."
Thorn had to breathe in and out a couple of times while watching his wife walk while in labor, clutching her round stomach with tears in her eyes.
Thorn wanted to help her so badly, but his friends were right; as of that moment, he was useless.
"Can she eat something?" Thorn asked Zehannah. "Just to replenish her energy."
"Fruits, but avoid the acidic ones. Buy some yoghurt as well. Add a protein shake if you can find any. Doc said it'll help boost her energy after she gives birth. But for now, as much as possible, no food intake."
Thorn nodded, then turned to his wife, who was still walking. "Cinnamon-"
"Hon, please leave, Cassia said, sniffling as she walked with her back turned. "I can do this. Just leave, please.
Thorn did nothing but leave the room, then returned to the next room.
"I need fruits that are not acidic, Greek yoghurt if you can find any, and a protein shake," said Thorn to the friends, who looked at him inquiringly as he entered. "I don't want to leave; I'm worried, so be a useful motherfucker and buy it for me."
Everyone looked at Thorn flatly.
"We're the visitors, though," Ymar reminded Thorn.
"So?" Thorn was not feeling nice. He was too worried about his wife. "Buy it. Go ahead. Leave. My wife might suddenly give birth; I don't want to leave."
