Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Mason POV
The night has been a success so far.
"How could you jump the news on me like that. Do my feelings mean nothing? You made me think that is was a welcome-home party. What happened to we will never have a woman come between us again?" Jason's voice went a few octaves higher as he spoke.
"And what about me, Jason? Doesn't my happiness mean anything to you? Em, and I love each other. I have a wonderful opportunity to spend my life with the woman of my dreams. How could you consider me to give up happiness to make you happy? It's outrageous. You can ask me to give up anything else, even the business, but I'm going to marry Em whether you like it or not. It's time for you to your infatuation come to an end." My anger is getting out of hand. I cannot believe the audacity that Jason has.
"Really you two? Soften up or everyone will hear you." I look at the door and see Em standing there. My anger just evaporates.
"Number one, Jason I'm sorry Mason didn't warn you. It was inconsiderate of him. He should have put himself at your feet. Number two, Mason no one is asking you to give up the business. Especially not me. Number three, everyone's feelings matter. We're all going to be family one of these days. Lastly, my name is Emily. Please to make you acquaintance." I can see Em counting her points on her fingers. She is so cute sometimes. Em puts her out to my mother on her last point.
I walk closer to Em. My mother laughs and I look at her in surprise.
"Oh, I like her. She's going to keep you on your toes. Hello, my child, my name is Sandra. I'm the two lump heads' mother."
"I'm sorry that we met under the circumstances." My mother stood up and took Emily's hand, only she pulled her closer and gave her a tight hug.
"It's perfectly okay. It feels like I've known you for years. Mason can't stop talking about you lately. I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. Mason's sister, Julietta, is still so young. I had to wait until she finished her term. Since she also wanted to meet you."
It makes me so happy to see that my mother and the love of my life is getting along.
We decide to go back to the party before anyone realize that we are missing.
Em grabs Jason's arm and show me I could go. I want to protest, but the determination on her face tells me I should not interfere. I just hope that she will be okay.
I do not like the fact that she will be alone in a room with the one guy that is trying to steal her away from me.
I walk out without a word and close the door behind me. I tried to listen to what they are saying, but the problem is that they are talking to softly.
I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Come on, son. You need to trust her. I have a feeling that she will be the reason you and your brother will make up." My mother takes me by the hand and leads me away.
I barely make my way around the room when Emily came to me. She is looking upset. I can see the tears that is stinging behind her eyes.
I pull her closer to me and I feel the first tear fall on my arm.
I call her brother closer and tell him that I am taking Emily home. He looks at me in confusion, but he sees Emily sob. He nods his head and tell me that Madison can stay with them. He quickly walks away and I lead Emily out and into the car.
We drive home in silence. I know Madison will be safe with Emily’s brother.
We walk into the house and still Emily has not stopped crying all this time. I pull her to the couch and make her sit.
“Baby, what happened? Did Jason say something to you?”
“No, it wasn’t Jason. I think I just lost my best friend.” I try to put everything together in my mind. The last person she spoke to was Jason. The only other friend that she has is Becca. I guess she could see the confusion on my face.
“Becca came into the room after you left. Oh, Mason, she said such horrible things.” She starts giving me a breakdown of everything that Becca said. I heard only the half of it, before my anger took over.
“Listen to me Emily. I have heard enough. I can tell you that nothing she said was true. We both know that we met way before you ever knew that Becca excited. She is just bitter that Jason no longer likes her. As for Madi, that girl is my daughter and everyone knows it. For Christ sake she looks just like me. And another thing, you are the only women that I know with this much integrity. “I pull her closer and just let her cry herself out. The problem is that I don’t think she is crying because of the things that was said. I think she is mourning the friendship that she lost.
I wish I can take her pain away, but this is something that she should work through herself.
Emily’s sobs grew silent. I look at her only to see that she fell asleep.
I pick her up and took her to my room. She will be much more comfortable in my bed.
I help her change out of her clothes without waking her up. I climb in next to her. Even in her sleep she is drawn to me. She moves closer and lays on my chest. I have never been this comfortable in my life.
It is almost like her body was carved to fit mine. It only took me moments before I finally fell asleep.
