Chapter 50

Chapter 50
Emily POV

Today turned into the best day of my life.
Everyone I care about is in one room together. A heartbreak descends on me. How I wish my parents were here to share the moment with me.

I look around for James. I don't see him, but my eyes land on Becca and Jason. They stand aside in a corner. I can see the sadness behind his eyes. I don't believe Becca sees it because she keeps babbling.

I let go of Mason's hand and signalled to him that I would be right back. Mason just continued with the conversation he was engaged in.

I walk closer to Jason. He looks up. He smiles at me, but I can tell the smile is forced.

"My dear earth person. It's so good to see you. I didn't think I'd ever see you again. You just disappeared and didn't even say goodbye." Becca falls right around my neck. I look behind her, but Jason is nowhere to be seen. He must have freaked out while Becca was talking like that.

"Becca, I'm so sorry about that. Let's make an appointment for tomorrow. There's so much I need to tell you. Are you working tomorrow?"

Becca and I talk for a while before I try to get out of bed again. She and I exchanged contact details and decided to drink coffee in the hotel's restaurant.

I start to walk away before Becca starts talking again. Now I have to go find Jason. The sadness in his eyes showed me that we still needed to talk things out.

As I walk around in search of Jason. I am stopped by people who congratulate me. Some of the people I don't even recognize. After an hour, I give up and go look for Mason.

I look around but don't see him either. I stop one of the waiter's. He explains to me that Mason is in the office. He also explains to me where he is.

I walk closer and hear loud voices. There are three voices, two men and one woman. I recognize Mason and Jason's voices, but I don't recognize the woman's.

"How could you jump the news on me like that. Do my feelings mean nothing? I think it's a wounded welcome-home party. What happened to we will never have a woman come between us again?" Jason's voice went a few octaves higher as he spoke.

"And what about me, Jason? Doesn't my happiness mean anything to you? Em, and I love each other. I have a wonderful opportunity to spend my life with the woman of my dreams. How could you consider me to give up happiness to make you happy? It's outrageous. You can ask me to give up anything else, even the business, but I'm going to marry Em whether you like it or not. It's time for you to your infatuation comes and complains." My heart melts even more with Mason's words. I didn't realize he felt so bad about me. I realize that I will have to stop the arguing before it turns into shouting.

"Really you two? Soften up or everyone will hear you." All three people looked at me in astonishment. I now see that it is Mason's mother who is in the room with them. I have only seen her in pictures.

"Number one, Jason I'm sorry Masom didn't warn you. It was inconsiderate of him. He should have put himself at your feet. Number two, Mason no one is asking you to give up the business. Especially not me. Number three, everyone's feelings matter. We're all going to be family one of these days. Lastly, my name is Emily. Pleasant acquaintance." As I speak I count out numbers on my fingers. On my last point, I reached out to Mason's mother.

Mason walked closer and I heard a laugh coming from their mother.

"Oh, I like her. She's going to keep you on your toes. Hello, my child, my name is Sandra. I'm the two lump heads' mother."

"I'm sorry that we met under the circumstances." She stood up and took my hand but pulled me closer and gave me a tight hug.

"It's perfectly okay. It feels like I've known you for years. Mason can't stop talking about you lately. I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. Mason's sister, Julietta, is even younger. I had to wait until she finished her term. Since she also wanted to meet you."

We chat for a while before we decide we should go back to the party.

I grabbed Jason's arm before he could walk away.

I show Mason that he has to go without me. He still wants to argue when he sees the scars on my face. He turned without a word and walked away.

I pull Jason to a chair and sit next to him.

"Jason, are you okay?" I take his hand between mine.

Jason looked at me with tears in his eyes. Here in front of me sits a broken man and it's all my fault. I really did not think that his love for me was so great. Jason opens his mouth to say something but before he can slams the door open behind us. The door almost splinters against the wall with the force.

Jason and I were startled and turned to the door. In the doorway stands Becca. Her face is red with anger.

"Really. Aren't you ashamed? You already have one brother, do you have to take the other one too? I knew something was going on between you two. What will Mason say if he finds out his fiancee is having an affair with his brother? ?" I try to stop her but she's on her way. She walks up and down in front of us.

"I know girls like you. I honestly think you were just friends with me to get closer to the Turner brothers. I'm sure Madi isn't even Mason's kid." My anger takes over.

"That's enough now. How dare you talk about me or my child like that? For your information, I met the Turner brothers long before you. And yes, one brother is enough for me. I have no feelings for Jason. Jason is busy going through a difficult time and I'm here to support him. I think it's time for you to go. I'm not looking for you in my life or my child's life. You've gone hopelessly too far."

I push her out the door and close the door behind her. I try to calm myself down but can't. I walked back and sat next to Jason.

"I'm okay, Em. The problem I have is that I love a person who doesn't feel the same way. Mason is right that I need to get over it. I tried. That's why I'm back together Becca, but the problem there is that she's starting to annoy me. I think I need to go away for a while. I'm really happy for you and Mason, but I just can't be around you right now."

Jason stood up and walked out without looking back.
