Chapter 48

Chapter 48
Emily's POV

After a whole month of searching, I still haven't found anything.

I haven't found a job that gives me a big enough salary to be able to afford a flat in the heart of London. The apartments that I can afford, well something always comes up and so I can't get it.

I went to look at an apartment again yesterday. Within five minutes I knew it was perfect for me and Maddi.

It's an hour's drive to Maddi's school and another twenty minutes to my work. It was big enough for me and Maddi.

The only problem is, when we wanted to sign the contract, the manager came and said that someone had taken the apartment already.

That's how it's been going all month now, as soon as I see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's like someone blows out the candle and I go back to sitting in the dark.

I decided to put my problems out of my mind for one night. Mason asked me out to dinner with him tonight. In the beginning, I didn't want to call it a date, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that it is a date. Or, maybe it's just what I want.

Mason wouldn't tell me where we were going. All he said was to put on my best clothes.

Right now I'm busy getting ready. I'm so on my nerves. The last date I went on was with my husband.

After carefully doing my makeup, I put on my black cocktail dress. I bought the dress back when I worked for Mr Andrew. I'm quite surprised that it fits me. Almost six years and a baby later.

My mother taught me that everyone needs a little black dress. You never know when you're going to need it.

I also decide on an elegant flat shoe. Ever since I got pregnant with Maddi, I struggle to walk around in high heels. Maybe I should just start wearing it again and it will get better.

Mason called from somewhere in the house. I look at the clock and see that it is almost time for us to leave.

I gasp as soon as I see Mason. I guess that we are going to a fancy place. I am grateful for the dress I chose.

Mason has always looked sexy to me in a suit. He is wearing a black suit with a navy blue shirt and a black tie.

I catch Mason staring open-mouthed at me. I see the blush on his cheeks and I can't help but smile.

"Wow, you look stunning, Emily."

"You don't look too bad yourself." Mason holds out his arm for me and I take it.

Mason leads me to one of his SUVs

Jesieka offered to look after Maddi. I am so grateful for the people in my life. It's the first time in five years that I go out.

It takes us ten minutes to get to a building. Before I could look at the name, Mason distracted me by putting a blindfold in my hand.

I look at him confused. He gives me a reassuring smile.

"Trust me. It's a surprise you'll love."

I look between him and the blindfold. I decide to trust him and turn so he can help me.

I feel Mason gently go to work to fasten the blindfold behind my head. I can barely feel him.

I heard the driver's door open and close. I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. Moments later, my door opens. Mason takes my hands and helps me out of the car. He is leading me to wherever he wants me.

We stop after a few steps. Mason begins to take down the blindfold.

In front of me is a building. In large golden letters is 'Emily the golden goddess'.

I turn to Mason.

"What is this? Why is my name on the building?" This is the first time I actually look at Mason. I was so wrapped up in my own this that I only now realize that Mason is nervous. I have never seen Mason nervous, not even when he had a big meeting.

"About three years ago, I opened a restaurant. No one really knows that I own the restaurant. I put your name on it in the hope that one day you will come back and see if I have ever stopped thinking about you not."

Mason gets down on his knees in front of me. He takes out a box and opens it up. Inside was the most beautiful ring I have ever seen.

"I'm sorry it took me so long to realize what you mean to me. It wasn't until after you left that I realized how much I truly love you. I knew I didn't want to spend my life without you. Emily, will you marry me, please? You make me a better person." Mason looked at me with so much hope in his eyes. I feel the tears welling up in my eyes. Mason jumped up and began to wipe away the tears. The nervousness turned into worry.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry. I'll wait until you're ready. Please don't cry." I start to laugh as tears roll down my cheeks. How does he think that my tears are a no?

"Don't worry. These are tears of happiness. Yes, Mason. I will marry you." Mason started laughing along with me. He takes the ring out and places it on my finger. He lifted me up into the air and twirled me around.

I hear applause behind me. I look behind me and see that everyone I know is standing behind me.

Mason leads me inside where everyone starts to congratulate us. Maddi came running closer with the biggest grin on her face.

"See Mommy I can keep secrets." She gives me a toothy grin.

"Did you know about this?"

"Yes, mommy. Daddy asked me if he could marry you. Does this means that we are going to be a real family now?"

"Yes, my love. We're going to be a real family now."
