Followed
Hera POV
Our gazes meet and I don't bother hiding the surprise of seeing him. Looking at him standing there, bruised but alive,I can't help but be thankful.
“ I came to see Lily and I was just leaving.” I announce with every intention of walking away.
“ Come on hera, don't do this. Let's talk.” Mason urges me,a pleading look on his face.
“ Talk?” I scoff. “ Talk about what exactly? You and I have nothing to talk about, Mason. I made it clear to you, there's nothing between us anymore.” I declare,my expressions hard despite breaking down inwardly. But I can't show him that,I can't show him the power he still has over me.
Mason sighs,his expressions softening.
“ Zero told me you were there yesterday.” He announces. For a moment,I panic before I manage to school my emotions.
“ I was there, yes,but not because of you. I simply followed Zero after he bolted in the middle of our conversation. I was worried about him, that's all.” I explain. Mason looks at me and I don't miss the hurt expressions on his face.
“ So you don't care about me at all?” He probes. My chest tightens and I fight the urge to shout at him and ask him how can I not care about him when everything I am doing is to protect him.
“ Should I care about you Mason? In your heart, only your brother is important. You are willing to disregard everything we had and shared just so you can protect him. Why should I be magnanimous and care about you? You don't care about the pain Finn put me through, the lives he took. You are blind to everything he has done so why expect others to care about you?” I snap, suddenly angry. I am honestly getting tired and fed up by him turning a blind eye to everything.
“ He is your brother,I understand but what about me? Didn't you promise to protect me against the world? What happened to that promise? Or do I assume everything you said back then was nothing but lies? Or when it comes to your family,I'll always come last?” I continue.
Mason looks away,his expressions crestfallen.
But he doesn't answer me,he doesn't refute me and I have my answer. I turn around, pretending the sight of him doesn't tear me apart.
But he grabs my arm.
I stop,waiting.
But he doesn't let go.
For a while,we stand like this,me waiting and him silent.
" It's not that I don't believe what you said,I just had a hard time comprehending it. He is my brother and learning that he might possibly be after my life is too much. There's so much I don't understand and it's messing me up. But please Hera,I'll fix this. I'll fix us,please don't leave me or I'll never find my way back." Mason's voice is soft as he pleads. My heart clenches painfully. I want to turn and hold him and tell him that everything will be fine but I can't. Not when I can't be sure.
" I don't know,Mason." I answer honestly. " I just need time, time to think and time away from you. Can you give me that?"
He doesn't say anything, just stares at me with an unreadable expression.
" How long do you need Hera? How long should I give you?" He asks and I shrug.
" I don't know. Maybe until I have avenged the death of Amelia and Linda? Those ladies didn't deserve to die like they did." I announce. Mason gives me a long stare before nodding and releasing my hand.
" Alright then Hera,do your thing and I'll do mine. I'll uncover the truth behind Snake and Linda's death and if Finn is involved in any way,I'll not let him off the hook." Mason declares and I see determination etched on his face. I don't want to believe him but I truly hope he means what he said. I hope it's not an empty talk to try and get me back.
" I have wronged you, Hera. Please forgive me and give me one last chance to make things right. The thing I am most scared of is losing you because of my foolishness and selfishness." Mason adds, his tone sincere. I turn away, not trusting myself to keep it together and not run into his arms.
" Just make things right Mason and that would be a start. Prove to me that you want this, want us to work." I answer instead and without a second look,I walk away.
My heart is breaking but my mind is at peace. After leaving Mason's house,I decide to drop by the headquarters to handle the pending paperwork about the club. I am riding my bike when I catch a black sedan tailing me. Without second thought,I accelerate by bike and weave through the cars with the every intention of losing them
I make a quick left and the black sedan is still behind me. I accelerate again and take a right turn,my heart thumping in my chest. Who the fuck is this? Is it Finn? Does he know that we have a lead on his activities? I wouldn't be surprised if he has. For someone of his calibre, having eyes and ears everywhere isn't farfetched.
I try to zigzag, changing lanes but the damn thing is still hot on my tail. I have to admit, whoever is on the wheel is a good driver, they could pass as a professional racer . We reach an intersection,I make a sharp turn, tire screeching and almost losing balance. I hear a loud honk and the sound of tires screeching. A truck almost hits me but I manage to get out of the way, my heart beating fast. The truck manages to block the sedan and I take that opportunity to lose them.
When I come to a stop outside the headquarters building,I kill the engine and remove my helmet. I look around and when I make sure the coast is clear,I make my way towards the secret elevator that leads to my office.
I am about to press the open button when I feel something cold pressed on the back of my head.
" Hello,MG. It's been a long time. Didn't expect us to meet this way." A rather familiar voice whispers from behind me. My hand moves to grab my weapon but the person seems to have anticipated my move.
" You don't need a weapon with me. I want to talk to you.”
