Chapter 216 Recalling the Past
Chapter 216 Recalling the Past
"Sebastian didn't drive, so they're still checking surveillance footage at different intersections!" Gavin's voice was full of apology. After hesitating for a few seconds, he added, "Mr. Campbell's phone is still off. I checked the flight information - he won't arrive until around 9 PM."
Cecilia understood why he was telling her this. He wanted her not to count on Ethan - finding Molly would be up to her alone.
"Ms. Nelson, don't worry, I'll definitely help you find Molly. I'm already on my way back to River City."
"Okay, thank you!"
After hanging up, Cecilia turned her car around and headed straight for the apartment they used to live in.
She never thought she'd come back to this place again in her lifetime, but now, for Molly's sake, she had to force herself to enter despite the fear it brought back.
The door opened, and Molly's favorite cartoon seemed to be playing in the living room.
She walked in and saw Molly sitting on the sofa, staring intently at the TV screen, giggling from time to time.
Just as Cecilia was about to call out to her, a head popped out from the kitchen. Seeing her, the voice carried surprise and delight, "Honey, you're back?"
She looked toward the voice. Sebastian was wearing an apron, holding a cooking spatula, his handsome face much thinner than she remembered.
"Go wash your hands, dinner's almost ready. I made your favorite dishes."
Cecilia stood there in a daze, as if time had turned back.
Hearing the voice, Molly ran toward her happily, "Daddy didn't lie - Mommy really came back."
Clearly, Sebastian had said something to Molly to keep her calm and prevent her from crying.
"When have I ever lied to you? Molly, take Mommy to wash her hands. Dinner's coming right up - all your favorites!" After speaking, Sebastian turned and went back to the kitchen.
Cecilia looked down at Molly's expectant face and couldn't bring herself to leave right away.
Under Molly's supervision, she washed her hands and walked into the kitchen. Sebastian was ladling soup, and when he saw her, his face showed a gentle, warm smile.
Cecilia had seen this smile for nearly ten years.
Every time she saw this smile, a deep sense of happiness would rise within her.
But now, she only felt sad and bitter.
"Sebastian, what's the point of this?" Cecilia asked coldly.
A bitter smile appeared on Sebastian's somewhat weathered face. He looked at Cecilia very seriously and said, "Yes, there is. I want to have a meal with you and our child!"
Cecilia's heart had been completely broken by Sebastian. At this moment, she wouldn't believe a word he said.
But thinking of Molly's expectant eyes, she responded as calmly as possible, "After dinner, I'm taking Molly home!"
"Okay!"
Sebastian brought the dishes to the table. After sitting down, he poured juice for Molly, then poured a small glass of wine for himself and Cecilia.
"Today is the day our family reunites. I propose we toast to being happy every day from now on!"
Molly was still a bit afraid of Sebastian. She secretly glanced at Cecilia, and only after seeing her nod did she pick up her glass and clink it with Sebastian's.
Cecilia had no intention of letting bygones be bygones. Only after seeing Sebastian drink did she pick up her wine glass and take a small sip.
The sharp taste of alcohol stimulated her senses, making her mind even clearer.
She never believed a bad person could suddenly become good for no reason.
Sebastian's little act definitely had another purpose.
At the dinner table, Sebastian was as gentle as before toward Cecilia and Molly, attentively serving them food.
When Cecilia didn't want to drink more, he didn't insist, as if he truly only wished to share one dinner with them.
With Molly there, the meal passed peacefully enough.
After eating, when Cecilia suggested leaving, Sebastian quickly said, "Wait for me. Let me wash the dishes and I'll drive you."
"No need!" Cecilia refused directly, but as soon as she finished speaking, her body swayed and she almost couldn't stand, feeling weak all over.
Sebastian immediately reached out to support her, asking anxiously, "Honey, what's wrong?"
Molly also became anxious, "Mommy, are you okay?"
Cecilia roughly shook off Sebastian and demanded sharply, "Did you do this?"
"Honey, I didn't!" Sebastian's denial was very firm.
"Fine! Molly, call Sophie and have her come pick us up!" Cecilia didn't trust Sebastian. She had no strength now and didn't dare rashly provoke him, or she and Molly definitely wouldn't be able to leave.
Seeing Molly about to get her phone, Sebastian finally dropped the act. He let go of Cecilia and grabbed her phone first.
Released, Cecilia's body fell to the floor. She struggled to get up but fell back down.
"Sebastian, and you still say you didn't do anything?" she shouted angrily from the floor.
Seeing her fall, Molly cried and ran over, throwing herself into her arms, "Mommy, what's wrong? I'm scared."
Seeing Molly cry so heartbreakingly, Cecilia's heart ached terribly. She glared at Sebastian and demanded through gritted teeth, "What exactly do you want?"
Sebastian picked Cecilia up from the floor and placed her on the sofa, saying very seriously, "Honey, I just want things to go back to how they were. Don't worry, Molly is my daughter - I won't do anything to her."
After speaking, he picked up Molly and coaxed her gently, "Molly, go play with your toys in your room for a bit. I need to talk to Mommy."
Cecilia knew she must have fallen into Sebastian's trap. No matter what, she had to protect Molly. Having Molly out of the room actually suited her, "Go ahead, Molly. I'm fine. After I rest a bit, we'll go home!"
Molly blinked her big eyes and nodded obediently, then let Sebastian carry her into her old room.
Sebastian had specially come back to clean and restored the entire house to how it used to be, which was one of the reasons Cecilia was moved when she came in.
When he came out, Cecilia shot him a fierce look and cursed in a low voice, "Sebastian, can you not be so shameless?"
Sebastian walked up to her and crouched down, reaching out to touch her face, his expression becoming very sinister, "Honey, I haven't done anything yet. You can curse me after I do - it won't be too late!"
With that, he bent down to pick up Cecilia.
Cecilia turned her face away in disgust, barely managing to raise both arms to push him, but she couldn't stop Sebastian from getting closer at all.
"What are you doing?" she roared angrily in a low voice.
Sebastian moved close to her, his voice like a demon from hell, "You're my wife. I haven't been intimate with you in so long - I miss you!"
Thinking of what Ruby had said, Cecilia felt so disgusted she almost threw up. She spoke with extreme revulsion and disdain, "Looks like last time's lesson wasn't enough!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, Sebastian flew into a rage. His expression became twisted and terrifying. He roughly grabbed Cecilia's collar and roared furiously, "You dare bring up last time? Cecilia, you bitch, if it wasn't for you, how would I have ended up like this?"
