Chapter 214 First Customer After Break
Chapter 214 First Customer After Break
Cecilia thought back to the look in Ethan's eyes when he first saw her. She wanted to ask Stella if she was his first love, but when the words came to her lips, she just couldn't get them out.
That night, she left her parents and child behind and snuggled in Ethan's arms.
The next day when she got home, her parents didn't ask anything, but Helen complained to her in a gloomy mood, saying her confession had failed the night before.
Cecilia asked her what happened, and she said Damon told her he didn't want to think about dating right now.
Everyone knew this was just an excuse one person used to reject another.
"You're giving up just like that?" Cecilia asked with a smile.
"What else can I do if I don't give up? Shamelessly throw myself at him? I don't have that kind of courage."
Although Helen had always hung around with men before, she had both talent and looks, and mostly it was men who circled around her. Now asking her to please a man was really difficult for her.
Cecilia didn't want to lecture her too much, but she couldn't help saying something from the heart, "Damon is a good guy, don't leave yourself with regrets!"
Soon the holiday was over. When Cecilia went back to work, the first client she received was actually Aurora.
She sat exhausted on the office sofa and complained to Cecilia, "Cecilia, going back to Majestic City nearly killed me."
Cecilia was impressed by her incredibly natural acting. Following the principle of maintaining dignity, she could only match her performance, "You big families have so many social obligations."
"You really get me! But I can skip social events, but I can't get out of paying respects to deceased relatives."
Before Cecilia could speak, Aurora continued, "Cecilia, you probably don't know this, but my biological father was actually Ethan's father's assistant. They were in a plane crash together and are buried in the same cemetery. Every year we go pay our respects together."
She spoke very casually, showing no sign of sadness at all.
Cecilia had already heard this from Ethan, but hearing it again now, she realized that every piece of information Aurora revealed to her had hidden meaning.
This time, she was probably here to show off and make a statement.
Cecilia heard her continue, "After my dad died, my mom passed away from illness not long after. My aunt brought me back to the Pierce Family and let me live with the Pierce Family children. Probably because we shared similar pain, Ethan has always taken special care of me and said he would never let me suffer in the future."
"Oh, you two have such a good relationship. No wonder you value his birthday so much." Cecilia replied lightly, though her heart was sour.
She was so smug because she relied on Ethan's favoritism toward her.
"How could I not value it? Such a special day." Aurora sighed meaningfully, "But precisely because it's special, I always prepare secretly and find the right time to give him things, to avoid breaking his taboos and making him unhappy."
Cecilia thought of that day's scene—Ethan had been absolutely furious.
Sensing Aurora's obvious smile, she cursed herself for being so stupid, being played by this woman.
Since she had already seen through Aurora's true face, and she had come to her door herself, if Cecilia didn't get some useful information out of her, she'd feel she wasted her time acting with her.
She pretended to praise her, "You're so thoughtful!"
"There's no choice, after all, this is Ethan's psychological barrier that no one can resolve!"
When Aurora said this, she deliberately looked at Cecilia.
Cecilia pretended to casually raise her eyebrows and ask, "Not even Stella could resolve it?"
Aurora was clearly startled by this, and the smile in her eyes instantly turned cold, "She's already dead!"
Of course Cecilia knew Stella was gone. She wanted to know what happened back then.
Afraid Aurora would get suspicious, she deliberately said, "She was Mr. Campbell's true love. Couldn't she resolve it back then either?"
Sure enough, Aurora's expression panicked after hearing this, then she laughed awkwardly, "They were still young then. Eight years later when she and Ethan came back, she died not long after."
Cecilia's heart jumped. Ethan had told her about things after he turned fifteen. Those missing eight years—didn't that mean Ethan was only seven when he disappeared?
"Actually, even if she hadn't died, she couldn't have been with Ethan. Jasmine would never allow it!"
"Why?" Cecilia blurted out.
Her speech was too quick, causing Aurora's expression to pause before she answered slowly, "Because the mistress of Apex Ventures Corporation can only be someone chosen by the Pierce Family themselves. Ethan can't change it, no one can."
Before Cecilia could ask, Aurora continued, "I told you before that Apex Ventures Corporation used to be the Pierce Group. After Jasmine took over, she got financing and changed the name, and also added the Pierce Group family's ancestral business. After merging the assets, that's how we got today's powerful Apex Ventures Corporation."
The Pierce Group family's ancestral business all fell into the Campbell Family's hands?
No wonder when Ethan took over, many people understood it as a change of ownership. So that's what it meant.
"So I'm not at all worried about someone stealing Ethan away, because no one can steal him. He can only be mine." Aurora said proudly.
Cecilia agreed with this point. After all, Aurora had the Pierce Family backing her up.
They would never allow the Pierce Group family's ancestral business to fall into outsiders' hands.
Cecilia didn't want to continue this topic that made her sad, and suddenly asked, "How did Stella die?"
"Burned alive in a fire. They say when they found her, her face was completely disfigured!" Aurora answered very coldly, with no trace of compassion in her tone.
"How tragic!" Cecilia replied with regret.
If Stella really was Ethan's true love, you could imagine how devastated he must have been when he saw the body.
Aurora was about to say something else when the office door was pushed open and Leah walked in, "Ms. Nelson, your appointment is here!"
Seeing she had business, Aurora offered to leave. As she got up, she pulled a box from her bag and placed it on Cecilia's desk, "I almost forgot, a gift for you."
Cecilia smiled and thanked her, "Thank you. Next time when you're free, I'll treat you to something good."
Aurora replied playfully, "I'll wait for your call!"
Finally seeing her off, Leah pouted and complained, "She talks way too much!"
"Alright, go get Gavin for me."
"Ms. Nelson, Mr. Grayson left on a business trip early this morning to discuss a project!"
Cecilia's expression froze. He just came back from the group dinner, and now he's off on a business trip right after the holiday.
He was from the Grayson Family, Stella was his sister. When he first saw her, not only was he not surprised, he deliberately avoided her. If there wasn't something fishy going on, she wouldn't believe it.
Lost in thought, Cecilia's phone rang. She waved her hand to signal Leah to leave first, then answered.
The caller ID showed an unknown number. When she picked up, a tearful voice came through, "Cecilia!"
