Chapter 64 - Adam.

Arora

The time had simply flown by! Fear gripped my heart. I really wanted our child to be born, but I didn’t want to die! Pain shot through my body again and I cried out. As soon as I could grab hold of Luke, I did. I pulled him closer by his shirt collar and if I wasn’t in so much pain I would have laughed at the look of utter fear on his face.

“Remember your promise!” I growled, but he didn’t have time to say or do anything. The doctor whispered something, and I was rushed away from the delivery room. As they pushed me into the theater, I was on the verge of having a heart attack. All around me, people were running around, and it felt as if my world had been turned completely upside down.

The doctor explained on the way that our baby was in distress, and they had to do an emergency c-section, which was probably the most frightening thing I had ever experienced. Luke appeared beside me dressed in scrubs and with a mask covering his face. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. They gave me an epidural which hurt like hell, but I bit down and got through it.

I was lowered back onto the table and things happened pretty fast. It felt as if I didn’t have enough time to prepare myself. I was so sure that I wouldn’t make it. When our little one cried, I burst out into tears. It was the one sound I thought I would never hear! I was still waiting for the darkness to take me. Luke disappeared for a moment and when he reappeared, he had our little one in his arms.

“Arora, meet your son.” Luke beamed, and I hadn’t even heard the doctor say that it was a boy. Our son was placed on my chest and I felt overwhelmed with the love I felt for him. I looked at Luke, who was beaming. I was still alive and from the conversation I could hear around us … I was actually going to stay that way! I had spent so much of my pregnancy thinking I would die like my mother did!

Our son was taken away for a short while to get cleaned up, and I breathed such a huge sigh of relief when we were finally taken back to our room! It felt a little unreal. I honestly thought Luke would be with the baby and I would be on my way to the morgue! I settled in, and I had just gotten comfortable when the nurse brought our son.

He looked so cute in his blue clothes that I could almost eat him up! I felt such love at that moment that I didn’t know if my heart would be able to hold it all. Was that why my mother died? She loved me so much that her heart couldn’t hold it all, and it burst?! Tears filled my eyes and Luke put his arm around me. Everyone gave us a moment to just be together, which I really appreciated.

Over the past couple of months, I didn’t dare dream of this moment. I was so scared that I wouldn’t have it that I didn’t allow myself to feel the happiness of being pregnant. Now that we were finally here, and I was alive, I felt completely overwhelmed with emotion. Luke just held the two of us and I must have fallen asleep at some point. When he softly woke me, I felt dazed and confused for a little while.

“I’m sorry to have to wake you, my love, but we have to make the announcement. We have to tell people what our son’s name is going to be.” We had discussed it, but I wanted Luke to pick our son’s name. I didn’t want our son to have my father’s name. I didn’t believe that my father deserved that honour.

“I … I don’t know.” I looked at the small bundle that was asleep in his father’s arms and back at Luke.

“I was thinking we could name him, Adam.” Luke looked nervous and when I smiled, he was beaming again. Luke didn’t even have to explain why he picked the name. I just knew. It was a new beginning not just for us, but Adam would be the future … A new beginning for our kingdom.

“I love it!” I beamed as my mate sat there with his chest broad with pride. He called my private secretary, who congratulated us first, and then we gave him the details. An hour later, we heard a huge roar of cheers go up outside the castle. The hospital wing was on the same side as the gates that led to the town. As soon as we heard people celebrating, we knew that the announcement had been made.

It was the best day of my entire life. Even better than the day Luke and I were mated. Even better than the first time we were together. It was the day our son was born. The day we gave our people new hope. The next generation. We spent two days in the hospital because I healed pretty quickly before we were moved to our rooms.

It felt strange to be in a different room and each time Luke left to take care of some royal business, I would sneak next door. I didn’t want to disrupt the routine the nanny was trying to get our son into, so I would just stand beside his bed. He looked so cute when he slept. I sighed contently. He didn’t just look cute when he slept. Even when he cried, I thought he was the cutest baby ever!

“He is never going to learn any kind of routine if you keep disturbing him.” I could feel Luke’s smile on my neck before I even turned around to see it.

“He is only a couple of days old. He doesn’t need a routine yet.” I turned back around. I had never been this happy in my entire life.
