Chapter 90 - The Beta's Fate
White Fang is a very small and poor pack. Wes and the twins step out of their vehicle. A very nervous young Alpha steps forward with his equally young nervous Luna.
“Hello Prince Wes. We are honored to have you visit White Fang,” Alpha Damien says. “May I introduce my mate and Luna Clara.”
“Alpha Damien, Luna Clara, thank you for having us. These are my mates, Princesses Dawn and Farrah. I was under the impression I was going to meet Alpha Shaun.”
“He is my brother. He abdicated the Alpha position. He did not want the responsibility. He decided to be my Beta. He likes numbers and is trying to make our pack more financially stable. We only have eighty members. Most left when our parents died. I am only eighteen to Shaun’s twenty years and they felt without the guidance of our parents, that we wouldn’t know how to run a pack right. Even though most of them saw us grow up. Every pack member that is left is eighteen to twenty-two years of age. Only a handful of us have our mates. Clara and I have known we have been mates since we were sixteen. We got our wolves early. I guess the Moon Goddess knew something like this was going to happen,” he said with a small smile.
Wes turned to Farrah, “My Princess, why don’t you meet Beta Shaun with Luna Clara. Dawn, My Angel, take Josh and Andrew and tour the pack, while I have a conversation with Alpha Damien.”
The girls kissed him and went to do as he asked.
“There’s no jealousy between your mates?” Damien asked.
“No. They are as one mate, they share the same DNA. My mates are special. Farrah has the gift of Abundance. She will help your brother by looking over your books and investments and helping him multiply wherever she can. Soon your pack will be wealthy. I guarantee it.”
“Oh, dear Goddess. You’ve come at the right time. We were about to petition the Royal Pack for a loan. My brother said we should tour some other packs to see if we could find mates for our warriors. We are a fierce pack. Every one of us are amazing fighters if I do say so myself.”
“Well, you know why I am here. How many volunteers do you have for me to test? I do not want to take all your warriors with you, being such a small pack.”
“There are thirty. Ten wolf-shifters and twenty hybrids. I must tell you, we have two unique hybrids. They are wolf and bear hybrids, and they can shift into either of their animals.”
“That is extremely rare. How have they come to you?”
“They came from Canada. They fled from their kingdom. A sickness broke out some years ago and all the female bears were dying. No one knows why. The father of the two is a wolf. His wolf mated with a brown bear. They are fated. It’s rare but it happens. Their son and daughter are proof of that. Their parents left with some of the elders. But Ron and Rebecca liked the idea of being a part of a young pack.”
They walked onto the training field. Right away he saw a wolf shifter and a brown bear fighting each other.”
“Are they twins?”
“No, Ron is two years older than his sister Rebecca. She is fighting as the bear right now. They will switch soon.”
The bear was bigger than the wolf by a good two feet. She was powerful and graceful. Her fur is all brown with piercing black eyes and white pupils. The wolf is also brown with the same eye coloring. They were magnificent to watch. Suddenly, they switched animals and it was seamless. Wes was extremely impressed. He watched the others fight. Most of the hybrids were light witch/or warlock wolf shifters. He also saw a wolf/fae hybrid and the rarest of hybrids, a wolf/vamp shifter.
“How do you have a wolf/vamp shifter? How are her parents mated? Does she need blood? Her speed is phenomenal. With wolf strength, she'd be almost unstoppable,” Wes said, looking at the pale girl with black hair and violet eyes.
“Her mother is a vampire. That’s Sabine. Her father, Henry, mated with Valarie. They are also fated, that’s how it was possible. Her bite doesn’t poison him and vice versa. They live with Valerie’s Clan or Court, whichever you want to call them. I don’t know how Henry does it. They do not accept him, so they live in a cottage on their clan’s land. Sabine got tired of being bullied so they sent her here. She’s been a great asset against rogues. For the first couple of months, we were attacked weekly. But once Sabine got here, that all stopped. She does need blood, but not as often as regular vampires. She used to go to the humans for volunteers when she needed it, but she has a friend now that comes to her once a month. But if she is chosen, she said she could get a supply from her friend. He works at the American Red Cross.”
“She’ll need that supply, I definitely want her. The bear/wolf shifters too. Those three will do. You are too small of a pack for me to take more. And I fear if word gets out that Sabine is gone, the rogues will try to attack again.”
“Oh, no worries there, our fighters are fierce. Even before Sabine got here, we held our own.”
“Even so, I will have my brother send some warriors to help your pack just in case until your numbers can grow. Also, he will be sending out invites and taking some of your pack over for visits to find their mates.”
“That’s fantastic. I will look forward to that.”
Wes watched as he got a mindlink. A surprised look came over his face.
“That was my brother. He said we had to go to his office quickly. He was really excited.”
They informed the three that they were leaving and to pack up. They were excited. They left the grounds and went to meet up with Shaun. The moment they stepped into the office, Shaun started to talk.
“Brother, Princess Farrah has saved us. Look what she has suggested. She even invested in this company here and within two hours we'd made a million dollars. She cashed us out and reinvested in other areas with half the money. The other half is in our accounts. She showed me what to look for. Then she looked at our books and where we could make profits by selling our services as security for the Human Elites. Like celebrities and political officials. We can start up a personal security business. She had already gotten everything started for White Fang Security. We have six clients already.”
“I told you my mate would find a way to help your pack financially. We’ve been here for a couple of hours, and already you are in the green,” Wes said.
“I can’t believe it. Thank you so much.”
“Alpha Damien, have you had any girls become missing lately, or has anyone tried?”
“No, but I heard rumors that Crimson River had one go missing.”
“That is our next stop. Farrah, baby, Link your sister please, it’s time to go. Damien, it's been a pleasure. Please have the three meet us out front.”
“I will. And thank you again. You have saved us.”
“Look for that invitation from your King. It should be coming soon.”
“I will thank you.”
Ten minutes later, they were on their way to Crimson River.
“How did the pack look, Dawn?”
“They are very small. Their housing four to a house. Only four others have mates, and I happened to help one along with a pregnancy. They had been trying for a while. Her heat isn’t producing like they would hope. But one was already pregnant. I checked on her. She was pregnant with twins. They don’t have a doctor at all. Since they all have their wolves, there is no need. But with pups coming there will be. So I gave the two of them my number. I will be traveling back and forth the further they get along. We need to find a healer for them.”
Wes nodded. And told her she would travel with a full entourage of warriors and Josh, if he couldn’t go with her. She smiled at his protectiveness and just nodded.
Half an hour later they were pulling up to Crimson River. Alpha Caden greeted them with a huge smile.
“Wes! My good friend. Oh, sorry I mean, Prince Wes,” he said, with a laugh.
“No, you know d*mn well you never have to call me that. Dawn, Farrah, this is my good friend Alpha Caden. We were in Alpha training together. He got to go home on time while I had to stay.”
“These are your twins? Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. He never stopped talking about you two. I feel like I know most of your childhood stories.”
“Well, that’s embarrassing,” Farrah said. Dawn giggled.
“Yes, we are Wes’ mates. It’s nice to meet you, Alpha Caden,” Dawn said.
“Just Caden please. Now, my Omegas are ready to help your warriors. You have quite a few. You are all welcome. Please, let’s feast before we get to the hopefuls.”
Caden escorted them to the dining hall. The hall was packed with wolves. A lot of them were hopefuls that wanted to be a part of Wes’ Elites. Caden’s pack was a large pack with fifteen hundred wolves, and it was a very rich pack. Not as rich as the Royal Pack, but it was a top ten peck. Caden’s father, Alpha Rick, invested well and his pack prospered before handing over to Caden. Caden took his pack’s riches further by investing in real estate in the human housing market.
“Before I asked you about the hopefuls I have to let you know we rescued one of your pack members. A young hybrid named Juliet.”
“You have? We’ve been searching for her for a week. Her parents will be thrilled. Where did you find her? She just vanished one day. I didn’t feel her leaving the pack, so I assumed she ran away and is staying with a friend somewhere, but her parents swear there would be no reason for her to do that.”
“There are men working with a human who was or is working for a scientist. They have special potions to mask themselves, and mask the girls they've been taking, so the Alpha or any of the ranked wolves can't feel them crossing the borders. We are still trying to gather as much information as possible. We think they are experimenting on them. It’s just not wolves. Fae and witches and vampires have also been taken. At least that’s the rumor, and what information we have gathered seems to be true. Anyway, she’s resting at the Royal Pack. You can have her parents visit her there and take her home.”
“That is fantastic news, I will inform them.” Wes watched as his eyes glazed, and then a smile bloomed on his face. “You have made them extremely happy.”
“Good, I am glad, now how many are trying out for the Elite’s?” Wes asked.
“Three hundred. I have the obstacle course ready. What else would you like to test them on?”
“I want your opinion on those wolves that are good at strategy.”
“Easy, Brian, Lark, Victor and Elise. All four of them have the brains of military geniuses.”
“Great, I want them. The rest will have to work for it. I will be doing the same tests we went through. Can you set the flags up tonight? We will do the hide and seek tomorrow. And then I want to do one more test. How many trackers do you have?”
“A hundred and six.”
“Who is special in this pack that would hurt them to lose besides yourself and your Beta?”
“Oh, that would be Martha. The head kitchen Omega. Everyone loves her. She’s everyone’s honorary grandmother. She cooks like a dream, and she has watched almost all of us grow up. If anything ever happened to her, every wolf here would go ape-sh*t.”
“Excellent. You will wake those trackers that have passed the first three tests on the third day. Tell them she’s been kidnapped and hidden somewhere in the pack. Now I’ll need a place that is hard to find where I can stash her.”
Caden thought about it and then smiled.
“You can hide her with the witches that live on our land. They live about ten miles to the north of the packhouse. About a mile from the north border. Her best friend is a witch that lives out there. Not many know that. I’ll contact them tonight.”
“Excellent, thank you. Now, let the games begin. Do you mind if my mates wander around?”
“Not at all. Ladies, enjoy your outing. Warrior’s meet at the training ground in fifteen minutes.”
Wes watched as a bunch of wolves hurriedly left the dining hall. He was eager to get started, he still had fifteen more packs to visit. These next three days need to go by fast.
