Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Elora PoV
I fidget with the hem of my shirt as Miya chats away about her day, Maddox still hadn’t returned with the doctor and I was growing impatient. What if something was wrong with the baby? What if I lost them before they were even born?
I’d never forgive myself if something happened to them because of me, sure, the baby wasn’t exactly planned, but gods above, I want this child. I really want this child.
Before the end, I always dreamed about becoming a parent, about watching my own mother and father become grandparents. I can’t have most of what I dreamed my life would be, but I can have this. I can become a mother, a good mother.
And I’m sure Maddox will become a good father, he seemed excited. I never imagined he would want a child of his own, but it seems like he does, and so do I.
Ryker will come around to the idea, I’m sure of it.
“What’s on your mind Elora?” Miyazaki asks, her voice soft, always so soft. “You seem distracted today.”
“It’s nothing.” I lie, not sure I should tell her just yet.
She presses her palm to my forehead, “are you feeling ok? You look a little pale.”
Do I tell her?
How will she react?
I guess there is only one way to find out.
“Miya.” I begin, my voice low. “I have something that I need to tell you, but you have to promise not to freak out on me, ok?”
“How can I promise not to freak out when I don’t know what it is?” She laughs, shoving my shoulder, “just tell me, silly, it can’t be that bad.”
“Miya, I’m pregnant.” I whisper, as though afraid to say it too loud. “The baby… it’s Maddox’s.”
“Pregnant?” She asks, “how is that even possible? You’re not even the same race.”
I shrug my shoulders, “I’m not sure how it’s possible either, but it’s true, he sensed the child.”
Miya jumps to her feet, pacing the floor like she’s a mad woman, “we can get rid of it, before it grows too big.” She says quickly, too quickly. “I know one of the girls in the kitchen, she can slip you something that should kill it.”
“Miya….” I gasp, shocked she’d even suggest such a thing.
“Don’t worry Elora, I won’t let that thing take over your body.” She grabs my hands and pulls me to my feet. “Come on, we’ll go down there right now.”
“Miya stop.” I say, pulling my hands back.
“He won’t know what we did, it’ll look like a tragic accident.” She says, continuing on as if I said nothing at all. “The sooner we get that thing out of you the better.”
“Miya stop!” I say louder, almost screaming her name.
She pauses, looking at me like I’d grown three heads in the time she spoke. “What’s wrong?” She asks, completely fucking oblivious.
“I Don’t want to get rid of it.” I say sternly, moving back.
How could she talk about murdering my child so easily? The Miya I used to know would never even consider such a thing. What the hell is she thinking?
“What do you mean?” She asks, her eyes wide. “You can’t mean that, you don’t know what you’re saying.”
“I know exactly what I’m saying.” I counter, my Voice tight with anger. “I don’t want to get rid of this baby, Miya. I’m keeping it.”
“You want to keep that monsters baby?” She asks, acting as though I’m the one who’s gone crazy. “After everything he has done?!”
“Maddox has made some bad choices, but that’s not the babies fault.” I say, clutching my stomach protectively. “I want this baby, it may be my only chance to become a mother.”
“You can’t be fucking serious Elora!” She screams, throwing her hands up in the air. “You can have another child, with a human! You can’t seriously be protecting a monster, because that is what is growing inside of you; a monster.”
“My baby is not a monster.” I growl, taking a step back as I feel my power surge beneath my skin. “And I’m not human, remember? I’m fae.”
“I can’t do this.” She barks coldly, “I can’t stand here and pretend that whatever is growing inside of you is a baby.”
“Then leave.” I say, my voice much colder than hers. “Because if you threaten the life of my child again, I’ll have you detained.”
She laughs coldly, “you’d have me locked away because I don’t agree with you?” She shakes her head, heading for the door. “You’re a disgrace, I thought you were on my side. But clearly you are just as bad as the monsters you are fucking.”
I watch her leave, my heart pounding in my ears. This is wrong, this is all so wrong. That wasn’t Miya. It wasn’t anything like her.
Miya would never speak to me like that, sure we’ve had our fair share of arguments, but nothing like that.
What if she actually tries to hurt the baby?
Should I tell Maddox or Ryker what she said? What would they do?
Fuck, this is all so messed up.
The door opens sometimes later, I wasn’t sure how much time had passed since I decided to lay down. I wasn’t even sure if it was still the same day.
I stopped crying a while ago, but I know my eyes were still red and puffy, and my heart was just as broken.
“I’ve brought the doctor.” Maddox says, closing the door. “Now I should warn you, this will be nothing like human examinations.”
I slowly sit up, keep my eyes on Maddox. “Maybe we could do this tomorrow?” I ask, “I’m a little tired.”
Maddox takes one look at me and barks at the doctor to leave, the door slamming hard as he approaches the bed.
“What’s happened?” He asks, scanning my body. “Are you bleeding? Are you hurt?”
I shake my head. “It’s nothing like that.” I say softly, “Miya and I, we just had a bad argument.”
Maddox sits beside me, his eyes hard. “About what?”
“About the baby.” I whisper, afraid to tell him. “She doesn’t want me to have the baby.”
He hums. “I see.”
“Don’t hurt her, Maddox.” I say quickly, “she didn’t mean what she said.”
“And what exactly did she say?” He asks, his voice thick with anger.
I guess I have to tell him, this child belongs to him as well, and if she does anything to hurt the baby, then she has to be held responsible.
I have no idea if she even can hurt the baby. But I don’t want to find out.
I just hope she comes back to her senses, and quickly, because Maddox is pissed.
Really fucking pissed.
Fuck, what am I going to do? He'll kill her.
