Chapter 61 Traces of a Puppet Master

Chapter 61 Traces of a Puppet Master
LEONARD'S POV

Liora stood in the kitchen with me, talking excitedly about Ava, wearing only a shirt as she leaned against the wall. A pot of broth bubbled over gas. As I chopped onions I kept taking a look at her smooth slender legs, forcing myself to focus on what I was doing.

“Then when the guy tried to flirt with me, she pretended to mistakingly step on his foot…”

“Someone tried to flirt with you?” I growled, my brows furrowed. Liora smirked and moved dangerously close to me, peering into my face as I tried to keep my face expressionless.

“What…? Are you jealous?” She teased, poking my ribs. I dropped the knife and grabbed her by the waist, pulling her flush against me.

“I never said I was, princess,” I said with a small smile, staring down at her beautiful face.

“It's written all over you,” she pointed out, her perfectly manicured finger going around in a circular way, a cute look on her pretty face.

My arms were already around her in a loose way enough that she could pull away, but tight enough to feel the soft rise and fall of her breathing against my chest. We were standing in the middle of the kitchen, near the sink, and I could hear the faucet dripping. But I couldn’t tell you if it dripped once or a hundred times. Not with Liora looking at me the way she was.

Her chin was tilted up, and her hands rested flat against my shirt, right over my heart. I stared down into her eyes, and I swear I forgot where I ended and she began.

I watched her pupils grow a little, then shrink. Watched the way the light from the window caught the shine of her lower lid.

She didn’t look away. Neither did I. Not like I could bring myself to anyways.

I don’t know how long we stood there. All I know is that my arms felt like they were made to hold her. And her eyes felt like a place I could live forever.

Finally, she smiled. Just a small one, crinkling the corners of her eyes. And I smiled back, even though I had no idea what I was smiling about.I leaned down without hesitation and caught her lips with mine. The broth and onions were long forgotten.

She moaned softly into my mouth as I held her slender waist. Her hands went behind my head, pulling it down to her. I pulled her harder against me, trying to get every feel of her body.

Fuck she's so sexy.

My hands went to her face and she pulled away immediately. She laughed and coughed at the same time as she doubled over.

I stared at her in confusion.

“What? Did something happen?” I asked.

“Your fingers reek of onions,” she pointed out with a laugh. A look of realization crossed my face and I laughed.

“My bad, you distracted me I totally forgot I was doing something seconds ago,” I laughed. I was glad that we were no longer having that weird atmosphere of few days ago. We fixed things and honestly I've never been happier.

Suddenly something struck me. The sudden realization made me pause midway. I stopped chopping the onions and turned to stare at Liora. She had a concerned look on her face.

“Is everything ok?” She asked.

“You said an unknown number sent you a screenshot of my conversation with Mila?” I asked. Liora nodded looking confused until a look of realization crossed her face too few seconds later.

“I noticed when I went to see my dad, he kept acting like I showed up without his permission or something but u clearly remembered reading a text message from someone that claimed to be him.”

“What if…” Liora started.

“…It wasn't my father that sent the text after all?” I finished. I walked over to the cooker to check what was cooking and closed the pot back.

“I didn't think much into it but whoever sent that screenshot has Mila's phone and remember I told you I haven't been able to reach her for quite a long time…” I said trying to piece a few things together.

“What if Mila is trying to blackmail you?” Liora asked.

“No she wouldn't, my guess is whoever sent you that texted also posed as my dad and sent me that text, Mila might be capable of sending you the texts but I doubt if she'll have the guts to send me a fake message pretending to be the alpha, that's a serious offence.” I said.

“Could I be that the same person that sent you the text sent me the screenshots too?” Liora asked.

“Wait a second,” she said and walked out. My head worked as I tried to think of who was probably playing this games and why they were doing this, what's their motive.

‘Could it be Ronan?’ my wolf asked. I couldn't place it either. Ronan had every reason to be the one behind the text he sent to Liora but I knew the last thing he wanted was for me to go see my dad. He values the alpha position so much he wouldn't risk letting dad see me, I could see remember the expression he had on his face when he saw me in the pack. Luckily for him I wasn't interested in claiming the position so he can be at peace.

Liora walked back inside the kitchen with her phone and my phone. I pushed the onions I was chopping aside and turned off the gas cooker. She walked close to me and opened the text on her phone while I searched for the message I allegedly received from my dad.

I found it and clicked on it. Liora brought her phone closer and we stared together, comparing the digits on it.

The number was the exact same number.

“Whoever this person is, he knows both of us, and the person is planning something sketchy.”i said my mind running around.
