Chapter Thirteen

EMMA'S POV~

The sound of my phone vibrating stirred me from my sleep. My eyes snapped open and then widened. I jumped out of bed hurriedly and instantly went to retrieve my phone from the sofa where I had left it.

There were already 22 missed calls, which made my heart skip a beat. Unlocking it, I saw an unknown number, which made my teeth clench.

A new message popped up, and when I clicked it open, it read: "We're ready, send her in."

My heart skipped a beat, and I found myself rushing around the room to wash my face and brush my teeth. As soon as I was done, I made my way to Keagan's room and softly knocked.

The door clicked open after just two knocks, surprising me that he was awake. "Good morning, Darling," I said, putting on my fake meek expression.

He grunted in response before leaving the door open—a cue for me to enter his room.

My eyes darted around the room, and I nervously bit my lip before gathering the courage to speak. "Babe, I need a favor." My voice came out in a soft, trembling tone. I was entirely nervous about his recent mood around me. Everything I ever did seemed to piss him off, nowadays.

Keagan raised an eyebrow, clearly uninterested in my plea. I took a deep breath, forcing my eyes to well up with fake tears. "I can't find my phone, and I think I might have left it at the hospital. Could I please borrow your phone to call mine and maybe find it?"

A look of annoyance crossed Keagan's face. “What do you mean? Wasn't it you who ordered some pairs of new shoes from the store using your phone?"

I gulped, realizing he was about catching up to my lie but I quickly forced a confused expression on my face. “I think you were referring to my small phone, which is in my room right now. I'm talking about my other phone, I can't seem to find it in the drawer where I had placed it. Can you help please?" I bit my lips like a fragile doll but his look of annoyance only seemed to intensify.

After some seconds of almost believing he wouldn't grant my request, he eventually nodded, grabbing his phone from the nightstand and handing it to me. "Make it quick."

My fingers closed around the device, trembling slightly as I dialed my number. I brought the phone to my ear, listening as it rang and rang with no answer.

"Oh no, it's just ringing!" I whimpered, glancing up at Keagan, my eyes wide with fake worry.

I could see his impatience growing, so I decided to push a little further. "I know this is a lot to ask, but could I send a text message to my phone instead? Maybe someone will see it and respond if they've found it."

Keagan let out an exasperated sigh and motioned for me to go ahead. I quickly tapped away at the screen, crafting a message to my own number.

"There, I sent it," I said, handing the phone back to Keagan with a weak smile. "Thank you for letting me use your phone."

Keagan grunted in response, snatching the phone from my hand and returning it to the nightstand.

“Uhm Keagan?"

“What?" He snapped and I flinched. “I'm sorry. I think I forgot to add my address to the messages, can you please let me do it?"

My heart raced when his expression darkened but nevertheless he strode toward me and forced the phone into my hand.

Thanking him and watching him turn away, engrossed with his laptop, I knew I had to act fast. With a trembling hand, I swiped to open the voice recording app. This was the last bit. If i could get him to co-operate...

"Keagan," I said softly, my voice quivering, "could you please say something? I want to test the voice recording on your phone. I'll send a voice message, I think it's faster than texting."

He shot his brows up, glancing at me like i was the dumbest person on the glance. "Why do you need me to test it? You could do it yourself."

I swallowed, sweating pooling on my brow. "Yes but, it's just--"

He let out a soft hissing noise, clearly more than pissed with my requests. "you know what?" he growled. "Testing, one, two, three. What else do you fucking want?"

"Nothing." I breathed a sigh of relief as I stopped the recording, quickly saving it to the phone. Now, I could use Keagan's voice to disguise my own once I needed to. I sent the voice recording to my phone. Then just as quickly, I deleted the evidence from his phone and straightened. He was no longer looking at me as his attention seemed to be grab by something on his screen. Good. Very good.

I turned away slightly, shielding the phone from Keagan's view as I navigated to the settings menu. My fingers fumbled as I searched for the option to change the SIM card PIN. I typed in a new PIN, one that only I would know, effectively locking Keagan out of his own SIM card.

Hands shaking, I pulled out the SIM card tray and carefully removed the tiny card. As I slipped it into my pocket, my heart pounded in my chest. I had done it. Keagan's phone number and voice recording were now under my control.

I handed the phone back to Keagan, being careful to avoid eye contact. "I couldn't get the text to send," I lied, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry for bothering you."

He snatched the phone from my hand, and I held my breath, waiting for him to notice the missing SIM card. But he simply tossed the phone onto the bed and turned away, clearly dismissing me.

I stumbled out of the room, my legs weak with relief and adrenaline. Now, I could use Keagan's phone number and voice recording to carry out my plan.

“Where are you going?"

My feet instantly froze when Sofia's voice reached me, just as I was about to turn the door handle. I turned to face her, finding her eyes narrowed in suspicion.

"Good morning, Mother," I said. She merely nodded in response. "I'm going to pick up an order. I received an email from the store where I ordered some pairs of shoes."

She regarded me silently for a moment before asking, "Don't you think it's too early?"

I shook my head, maintaining eye contact. After a tense moment, she walked away without another word. I breathed a sigh of relief before hurrying to the car and driving off.

The location the man had texted me was an uncompleted building, possibly intended to be a hotel or some sort of company. The area was quiet, with only a few cars on the road and a few people walking by. Perfect timing.

Jessica hadn't been home for two days. I had no idea where she had gone—perhaps trying to get prenatal care or attempting to hide her pregnancy from Keagan and his family. Her decision to conceal it couldn't have worked more in my favor, helping to speed up my plans.

"Where are you?" I asked the moment the call was answered.

"Just get the damn girl, and you'll see us," the person on the phone snapped before hanging up on me.

I glared at my phone before dialing Jessica's number, anxious yet hopeful she'd pick up.

After several rings, she finally answered, but I quickly hung up. That was enough to know she had her phone close by. I recorded a message using Keagan's voice, and asked her to meet me. I informed her that I needed to talk to her about the pregnancy and I needed her urgently before quickly sending her my address.

It took mere seconds for her to text back, confirming she was on her way. What a love struck bitch!

I waited for about an hour before spotting her exiting a taxi. A wicked smile crept across my lips. I texted her to walk into the unfinished building and wait, as I was on my way.

Naive and unsuspecting Jessica did as she was told, heading into the building. I hastily alerted the man.

I cautiously stepped out of the car, wearing my sunglasses and a shawl wrapped around my face, ensuring the coast was clear.

As I made my way to the building, the sound of a scream echoed through the air, followed by something slamming hard against the cement ground. The cruel smile on my face continued to spread.

"Somebody help! Someone help me!" Jessica's desperate pleas grew less distant as I kept walking.

I followed the sound of her voice until I reached an underground area of the building. And there she was, Jessica sprawled on the ground, sobbing, surrounded by seven masked men.

"My, my," I gasped gleefully, pulling my bottom lip in a pout. "Look at the almighty love potion witch lying on the ground, looking all miserable. Where's your Keagan?"

Jessica stopped sobbing, her eyes snapping in my direction. They widened with horror, becoming so large like saucers in her ugly face.

Yes! Be scared, bitch!

"Jessica?" she whispered. My lips curled into a smirk as I continued closing the distance between us.

I bent down to her level, watching a tear roll down her cheek before smirking. "That's right. I'm not the only one with a secret. For so long, bitch, you've always been winning, haven't you? Do you think it's a crime when I try to take what's mine now?

Jessica's face paled. "Please don't hurt me or my baby," she pleaded, her body trembling. I scoffed in disdain, casting a cold look at her belly. She recoiled, placing a hand on her tummy in a protective gesture.

"I'm sorry, I can't assure you that," I said, my voice icy. "Why would I let your child live when I hate their mother so much? What kind of villain would do that?"

She began to sob uncontrollably, disgusting me. In a fit of fury, I delivered a violent kick to her tummy. Her blood-curdling scream pierced the air, but no one in the building flinched. It was as though we were all prepared for bloodshed.

"Shut up, you evil thing!" I screamed in her face. "All this time, you've acted naive and weak, yet you do things, people stronger than you could never accomplish!"

Jessica continued to thrash on the ground, sweat pooling at her brows and her mouth wide open as she gasped for air.

Still, my heart didn't prick with guilt or pity. I pulled her by the hair and forced her to stare at me while she sobbed. "I'm going to snuff the life out of you! I'll take back my man, whom you kept stealing away from me! I'll take the Luna title you've been so desperate for, and I'll make sure to visit your grave with beautiful flowers, pretending to the world that I was the best and closest friend you ever had. Keagan, by my side, will mourn you, but guess what?" I stopped to throw my head back and cackle. I stopped and then peered at her with a crazed smile. “That same night after he had mourned you, he would be moaning on my bed next."

"Speak, bitch!" I slapped her violently across the face, causing her lip to split. She screamed again, and I despised her weakness. She was so pathetic that she couldn't even struggle or fight me. I spat on her before standing up.

"What should we do to her?" One of the masked men spoke up and I grinned.

"Everything but what would affect the bastard inside her. Don't forget I'm the boss here. " I ordered and the head of the assassin's threw me a cold look which I ignored.  "I'll be bringing a doctor tomorrow to check on the slut, but before then, find a secure location to keep her in. I'll discuss my further plans for her soon."

Jessica continued screaming and thrashing, but she was no match for the seven men. I watched them take her away, a cruel smirk on my face, before pulling out my phone from my bag as I left the building.

I dialed Keagan's number and waited for him to answer.

"Hello?" I heard Keagan say.

My lips curled into a menacing smile before I faked a pained expression and screamed, "Keagan, help me, please! Save me! Jessica, she..." I panted, pretending to run, then shook my phone as if I were in danger.

"Oh my God! Emma, where are you?" I heard Sofia's voice in the background.

"Mom, help me! It's Jessica. She sent some thugs... Save me, I'm dying. I sent you an address, hurry, check. Noooo!" I threw my phone to the ground and stomped on it, breaking it into several pieces before stepping back.

Biting my hand and drawing blood, I picked up a shard of the broken glass from my phone and stabbed it into my forehead before falling to the ground with a cold smile, waiting for Keagan to arrive at the scene.
