Chapter 109- Void.

Her eyes felt heavy. She could hear every single thing that was happening around her but she couldn’t find the will power to open her eyes to let everyone know that she was there. To let him know that she was there.

She had regained her earring the moment Imogen’s name had left Liam’s mouth and she had dreaded what would transpire between the two lovers.

They were going to get back together for sure and where would that leave her? It was like taking a one-eighty degree turn but little did she know that that wasn’t the case.

She had nearly passed out again in shock when she head what Asher had said to Imogen- how he had broken off their relationship. Just like that.

A huge part of Viola was over the moon when she didn’t hear her sister try to win him back while another part of her was annoyed and disappointed. After all these years and she didn’t even bother to fight for him.

Yes, Asher did sound like he had made up his mind but then again, it was Imogen- she had her ways of convincing not just him but everybody around her and she knew it. Also, Asher was in love with her and was practically indebted to her- she could’ve played that card but she didn’t… why?

She was so desperate to get those answers and she tried her best to move her body to get up but it was completely in vain and suddenly, she felt his hand on hers. Te touch sending fireworks through her body and she couldn’t help but twitch her hand as she took in the sensational feeling.

“Viola?”, his voice was gruff and the way her name rolled off his tongue made her shimmy and shiver on the insides, “Can you hear me?”, he paused for a second and when he received no reply, he mentally scolded himself- of course she couldn’t reply vocally! “Okay, twitch any part of your body if you can hear me”.

She channeled all the energy in her body to her arm which was obviously going to be the easiest place for him to see and even though it felt like her body was being held down by two giant elephants, she was able to wiggle her finger slightly- she had never felt so weak in her entire life and she hated it.

He let go of her hand and she immediately felt the absence of his touch. She head his chair scrape backwards as he stood up and walked away. She wanted to reach out for him- to tell him that she needed him beside her and to beg him to stay put but nothing was working.

Her insides were screaming but her body was still as ever. She heard the door open and her ears were suddenly filled with the hustle and bustle of the main infirmary, what the hell happened?

“Doc!”, she heard Asher yell and she could immediately tell that he was standing by the door and calling for assistance, “Doc!”, he barked out again and when the man came to view, Asher said, “She’s conscious”.

She could hear as the man rushed in quickly and headed over to her, placing his hand on her arm- his touch felt empty compared to the one she had had prior.

“What were the signs that she was awake?”, the doctor asked him as he placed a tube over her mouth- she wanted nothing more than to swat it away in annoyance,

“I asked her to move if she could hear me and she did”, Asher explained and the doctor nodded his head before turning the machine on,

“I’m going to stabilize her”, the doctor explained, “The gas in this will knock her out for a few minutes and next time she wakes up, she will be able to function properly- better”, Asher just nodded his head and allowed the doctor work his magic while Viola could feel herself drifting away into a void of nothingness.

In that void, there were no thoughts, no color and no Asher- nothing, just blank, empty space just floating around her.

Her eyes suddenly flew open and she gasped out for air, lifting herself off the bed and into a sitting position. She coughed furiously as she tried to get out a huge knot playing in her throat and making her uncomfortable as ever.

“Water”, her voice was hoarse and it felt like she had been eating sandpaper for breakfast, she tried to clear her throat but even that was painful, “Water”, she repeated again and the man beside her handed her a open bottle of water.

She brought the chilled liquid up to her lips and drank desperately, trying to open up her blocked air way and create some soothing in her throat. She finished the water in two long gulps and threw the bottle onto the floor as she began to cough out again.

This time, she felt that knot move up and she stood to her feet, almost falling face flat since her legs felt like jelly but she was able to push herself up and head to the toilet where she continued to cough until the giant clump of bile flew out of her mouth and into the sink.

She cringed in disgust and distaste as she switched the tap on, allowing the water to take the absolutely disgusting thing down the drain. She cupped her hand under the water and brought the liquid to her lips, rinsing her mouth thoroughly and then spraying her entire face with water, the cold liquid feeling good on her warm, sore skin.

Once she was done and satisfied, she made her way back into the room, using the wall as a guide so she could stand properly. She pushed the toilet door open and saw that Asher had not moved out of his position. He looked to be deep in thought as his eyes were distant and glazed over but he looked generally tired- he hadn’t slept in days.

She cleared her throat, capturing his attention and he met her with sad eyes which broke her heart. “What were you thinking about?”, she asked as she made her way back to the bed.

He pressed his lips into a thin line, “The fact that I may regret everything I’m going to do today in a few years”, he sighed,

Viola wanted to choose her words carefully- this was Asher and he was easily irritable, “With Imogen?”, she asked, letting him know that she had heard everything they had said but to her surprise, he shook his head,

“Not just that”, he sighed and turned to her, looking her dead in the eye, “I’ve caused you too much pain Viola. I won’t let you be with me”, the smile on her face faltered immediately as these words left his lips.

“What?”, she breathed out in questioning,

He sighed, “I told Imogen that she deserves the world but you Viola, you deserve the fucking universe and I can’t give you that”,

“I never asked for it! I don’t want the universe, I want my fucking mate!”, a tear left her eyes and Asher caught it immediately, wiping it away swiftly,

“I’m not your mate, Vi”, he wasn’t expecting to feel this much pain but he did, “Yes, we were destined to be with each other but I chose a different path and ruined it for you- you deserve so much more than me, a man that is a hundred times more of a man than I’ll ever be”, Asher said to her, tears falling down his own eyes.

“If you reject me, you are doing me more harm than good. You’re giving me a destiny of being alone for the rest of my life!”, she yelled at him, anger seeping through her words.

“No, I’m giving you a second chance at happiness”, he said to her with seriousness,

“There is no such thing as a second chance mate! If you reject me, that’s it for me”, she yelled again, hoping that he will wake up and realize that rejecting her was a stupid way of seeking for redemption in her eyes.

“But it isn’t”, he said suggestively and she had to look at him deeply before she could understand what he was insinuating properly and once she had grasped it, her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets in surprise and she shook her head frantically,

“No fucking way! No! I won’t let you- not for me, not for anybody, not even your fucking self!”.
