Chapter 22 Chapter 22

Chapter 22 Chapter 22
Amira's POV

I was even anxious about the new building’s layout. Just like Lily, I had asked some of the maids if they knew where we were moving to, but none of them did. At least if I knew, I’d feel a bit more confident that I wouldn’t upset anyone if we weren’t staying as close as we were now.

Clara noticed how tense I was and rubbed her palm against mine. I didn’t stop her. I let her continue because it actually helped calm me down.

Luckily, she was moving in with me. Not just her, but all the maids from my quarters were packing along too. I guessed there would be a house for them, but I wasn’t really sure.

The rest of the day went by in a blur of packing. Every building within the gate was filled with movement and noise.

Monday morning ~

I brushed my teeth slower than usual that morning. I didn’t even know why, but somehow, I hoped that dragging time might help me in some way today.

I spent almost two whole hours in the bathroom, and by the time I finally came out, a group of maids was already waiting inside the room.

Their faces looked pale and anxious, their eyes darting nervously around.

I frowned. “What’s wrong?” I asked, confused by their expressions.

They all let out a sigh of relief the moment they saw me and nearly rushed toward me at once.

“Thank goodness you’re out already! Sir Santiago said that if we’re thirty minutes late getting to the main building, we have to submit our resignation letters!” one of them said in a shaky voice.

“What?” I blinked, completely thrown off. Thirty minutes? That explained their panic. Anyone would be worried, getting fired over something that small wasn’t something to joke about.

“How many minutes do we have left?” I asked quickly, guilt settling in as I realized my long bath might have put everyone in trouble.

“Quick, hand me my clothes,” I said, taking them from their trembling hands and running back into the bathroom to change. In less than five minutes, I was ready.

“Let’s go,” I ordered, already heading for the door. It would take some time to reach the main building from here.

Tears welled up in the maids’ eyes. “Thank you, Amira,” one said softly.

They even forgot to call me “ma’am” in their panic, but I didn’t mind. In fact, I preferred it when they called me by name, though I knew they wouldn’t dare under normal circumstances.

“You don’t need to thank me. It’s my fault for staying too long in the bathroom,” I said honestly, hurrying ahead before I could see their worried faces.

Behind me, I heard laughter burst out.

“Well, we knew you locked yourself in there on purpose,” one of them said between giggles. “Still, thank you for thinking about us once you realized we’d get in trouble.”

I waved off their words. “Let’s hurry up. We don’t have any time to waste!”

We all broke into a run toward the main building. By the time we got there, we were panting and completely out of breath, our clothes clinging to us from the rush.

The gammas and maids who worked in the main building were already gathered near the entrance. I looked around, trying to spot Santiago, but there was no sign of him.

One of the maids quickly stepped forward and bowed. “Luna Amira, please join the last car. The order came directly from the Alphas.”

I nodded without saying anything and walked toward the black Mercedes-Benz parked at the end of the line. A gamma hurried to open the door before I could even reach for it.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside. The car’s scent was clean and fresh, filling my lungs instantly.

I realized I was the only one inside. I sat upright, careful not to wrinkle anything, feeling a strange sense of formality.

It was my first time sitting in a car like this, and every inch of it screamed luxury.

I let my hand rest gently on the smooth black leather seat, it was so soft that for a moment, I wanted to sink into it.

But I quickly coughed and straightened my back, trying to look composed. What if there was a hidden camera inside? Better not do anything embarrassing.

After a while, I leaned back and closed my eyes, taking a short nap.

When I opened them again, the car had already stopped. I didn’t even feel a single bump along the way, but somehow, I knew we had arrived.

The driver came to open the door.

And I stood frozen, my gaze fixed on the towering building before me. I couldn’t tear my eyes away no matter how hard I tried.

It radiated nothing but wealth, wealth, wealth, and even more wealth.

I was honestly stunned.

Sure, I had expected something extravagant, but definitely not something this breathtaking.

This was far beyond what I had imagined.

Aphia was an Alpha too, wasn’t he? Yet even he could never afford a place like this. I could swear my life on it, Aphia wouldn’t even be able to pay for half of this building, no matter how hard he tried.

I didn’t let myself stare for too long since the maids were waiting patiently beside me. They led me inside, and just like the outside, the interior was magnificent, so beautiful it almost took my breath away.

I barely had time to admire it before we were escorted deeper into the building. This time, I didn’t even bother looking around. My mind was elsewhere.

Then I heard a maid’s voice beside me and turned sharply toward her. “What did you say?” I asked.

She looked startled by my sudden reaction but quickly answered, “I said they have arrived too.”

I bit my lower lip, my chest tightening, and at that very moment, Lily appeared, walking gracefully into the room.

“What are you standing there for? You should sit down,” she said, pointing toward the couch nearby.

But I didn’t want to sit, not right now.

“Um, could you tell me where the bathroom is? I really need to use the toilet,” I said, faking urgency in my voice.

The truth was, I just wanted an excuse to leave the living room and avoid seeing those three. It wasn’t like I could avoid them forever, but I just wasn’t ready to face them yet.

Luckily, Lily didn’t seem suspicious. She nodded and said, “Go upstairs, to the right corner. It’s the last room you’ll see there.”
