Chapter 30 THIRTY
Carter stood up as he watched the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack walk toward him, his wife by his side, both carrying an air of calm strength.
"Alpha Jury," he greeted, bowing his head.
"Carter, it's wonderful to see you. How have you been?" As Jury spoke, his wife excused herself and gave him a cheek kiss.
"I've been doing well, Alpha Jury. How about you?" he asked.
"Please sit down," Jury commanded, and Carter obeyed, taking a seat on the couch. "I'm fine, just a little busy," he added.
"I have come to ask you about the rogues," Carter said. "These savages had carried out multiple attacks in our pack," he added.
"Hmm," Jury muttered and crossed his legs. "The rogues must have been targeting Raven's pack specifically. I haven't got any reports of rogues sighting in my pack," he added.
"It seemed so, Alpha Jury. We've documented a few attacks over the past few months," Carter said, shaking his head.
"Who did Raven pissed off this time? To attract the rogues in his turf?" Jury asked.
"That's what we're investigating for, Alpha. We're trying to find who was behind this," Carter replied, clasping his hands together.
"I'll order the warriors to widen the area to look out for," Jury said. "I will also ask the others about this. Anyway, I wanted to ask you this, Carter. Is it true that Raven brought a human back to his pack?" he asked, placing his hand under his chin.
"Yes, Alpha Jury. She is currently residing in the packhouse. She's Alpha Raven's woman," Carter answered.
"Damn, he really did it," Jury muttered. "What did the elders say? I bet they were furious," he added. Jury was also close to Raven, as they grew up together and went to college together.
"They were, but Raven fought back. You know him. Once he sets his mind on something, there's no stopping him. He loves Brienne," he said.
"Fck, is he serious about her?" Jury asked.
"He is. I heard him say that in front of the elders, and when do you see him with her? He's fcking whipped, Jur," Carter replied.
"Man, I want to fcking see him," Jury said. "I think I will visit Crescent Stone," he added and grinned.
"Brienne's kind," Carter said. "She's a sweet girl, but the thing is, Raven hasn't told her about our kind. She doesn't know werewolves exist in this world," he added.
"What the hell is Raven thinking?!" Jury shook his head in disbelief.
"It's complicated," Carter replied. "Anyway, Jurs, thank you for your time. Please contact me if you find something about the rogues," he added and stood up, bowing his head in front of the Alpha.
"Will do," Jury replied. "Send my regards to Raven. Tell him that I'll visit him soon with Vivianne," he added.
"I will, goodbye," Carter said and left the packhouse. Carter climbed into his car, beeped, and drove off. Carter took his phone out and dialed Raven's number.
"Hey, how was it?" Raven said immediately after answering the call.
"I'll tell you all the details later; I just wanted you to know I'm on my way back," Carter said.
"Hurry up! You'll be surprised who's here," Raven said and hung up. Carter's forehead creased, and he put his phone down to focus on driving. Half an hour later, Carter arrived and parked the car in front of the packhouse of Crescent Stone.
Carter went out and opened the door. He was greeted by laughing women. When he looked at the sources, he saw Brienne with another woman, whose back was facing his.
"Carter, hi!" Brienne greeted. "Raven's in his office," she added with a smile.
"Hi, Brie. Thanks!" he said. Carter was about to walk towards the staircase when the woman turned around. His eyes widened when he saw who it was.
"Natasha?" he whispered.
"Hey, Carter. Nice seeing you again," she said with a smile. "It's been a long time," she added and stood up.
"I thought you're coming back next year?" Carter asked, making Natasha chuckle.
"Yes, I resigned from my job and came home earlier. I'd probably stay for awhile before going back," she said. Carter felt his heart sink. "You should probably go to Raven. He's been waiting for you," she added.
"Right," Carter said. "I'll be back, Tash. Let's have a talk," he added, hoping that Natasha would give him a chance.
"Sure," she said.
"Thanks, Tash!" he said and quickly climbed up the stairs. When he was in front of Raven's office, he immediately pushed the door open.
"She's back, Raven. She's finally back," Carter whispered. Raven looked at him, shaking his head.
"I will forgive you just this once," Raven said. "I told you you'd be surprised who's here," he added and continued signing the papers.
"Fck, she's still beautiful as ever," he said. "I fcking miss her," he added and dreamily sighed as he sat on the couch.
"This is your chance to make it up for her," Raven said. Carter nodded his head. Now that Natasha's back, he will not let her go again. "Anyway, what did Jury say?" he added and crossed his arms. Carter looked at his Alpha; his demeanor completely changed.
"I have told him about the rogues as you ordered, and we're right. The rogues only attacked our pack," Carter said. Raven clasped his hands together as he intently thought of someone who could possibly order these rogues.
"Raven," Carter called.
"The rogue we captured has passed away," Raven said. Carter looked at him, his eyes unsurprised. "Right, I killed him," he corrected.
"He did not say anything and just kept grinning playfully. It completely pissed me off, so I fcking killed him," Raven said, eyes darkened with anger. He wasted his precious time to interrogate the rogue but got nothing in return.
"Jury said he'll widen his area for guarding, and he'll call us once he hears about the rogues," Carter said. "Oh, and he said he'll visit you soon," he added, grinning.
"I don't like your smile, Carter. Is Jury planning something stupid again?" Raven said and glared at his beta. "Another thing, what was the update about the two ranaways?" he asked.
"No, but you know Jury. As for the girls, Jill is taking care of them. She's teaching them things, and they will probably start working in the dormitories for beginners," Carter answered. He processed the girls' release and brought them to the dorm.
"Alright, I'll talk to you later. Have the warriors stay alert. We don't know when the rogues will attack again. I don't want casualties in my pack," Raven ordered.
"Copy. I will go ahead and talk to Natasha," Carter said and stood up. He breathed deeply and excused himself.
"Good luck," Raven muttered and watched his beta leave the office. Carter went down and saw Brienne alone in the living room with a book in her hand.
"Hi, Brie. Where's Natasha?" Carter asked.
"Oh, she went home. She was in a hurry and said something came up, so she had to go home," Brienne answered. Carter nodded his head, thanked Brienne, and left the packhouse. He drove the car to Gomez's house, where Natasha is currently residing. Carter had been waiting years for this, and he won't let it pass.
