Chapter 17 SEVENTEEN

Chapter 17 SEVENTEEN
The sun filters in gently through Brienne's unit. She stirred in her bed and slowly opened her eyes. Brienne glanced around and sat down. The first thing she noticed was her clothes. It was changed into sleepwear. She glanced around and saw the sticky note. Brienne got up and took it.
"I'm sorry, baby. I changed your clothes because you will feel uncomfortable as you sleep. I also cleaned. See you tomorrow."
Brienne smiled and glanced at her unit. Her heart swells at Raven's behavior. She rubbed her belly and sighed in relief.
"What do you think, my love?" she asked, but of course no one answered. Brienne felt her stomach churn. She ran towards the bathroom and threw everything up.
"Is this your answer, love?" she said and chuckled as she flushed out her vomit. Today was her scheduled OB appointment. Brienne already informed her manager that she would take a half day, and surprisingly, her manager agreed. Brienne started preparing herself, and when she was done, she grabbed her bag and headed out of her unit. The hallway was empty; Brienne hurriedly went to the elevator and rode it. When the elevator opened, Brienne was on the first floor. She immediately went out and saw the owner.
"Ma'am, I want to talk to you," she said.
"Oh, was this about the intruder? He's in the police station," the owner said, which confused Brienne.
"What intruder?" Brienne asked, brows raised.
"I totally lost my mind. There was this intruder in your unit, but before he could slip inside, this man from Unit 121 saw the intruder and apprehended him. He brought him to the police station," the owner stated. Brienne was horrified by what she had heard. Someone was trying to get inside of her unit!
"What is it? What do you need again?" the owner asked. Brienne gulped. Now that she heard about the intruder, she must leave this place as soon as possible.
"I will leave the next day," she said.
"What? But the advance, I already spent it for the renovations!" the owner said. Brienne wanted to argue more, but leaving this place takes priority for her.
"I can wait, ma'am. I'll just leave my bank account," Brienne politely said. The owner eyed her and forcefully nodded her head.
"Fine," she said and walked away. Brienne gave a sigh and went out of the building. She immediately went to the shed, waiting for her bus to come.
Brienne went inside the bus and sat on the front row. She leant on the window while touching her belly as the bus started going. Brienne hummed as she stared at the cars and buildings they passed by. After half an hour, the bus stopped. Brienne went outside and noticed the hospital building in front of her. She crossed the street and entered the hospital.
Brienne went to the OB-GYN department and saw the pregnant women sitting, waiting for their turn. Before sitting, Brienne went to the doctor's secretary to have her name listed; after that, she sat and waited for her turn.
Brienne took her phone out and smiled when she saw Raven's name on the screen. She answered the call with a whisper.
"Hello?" she said.
"Good morning, baby. Where are you? Why are you whispering?" Raven asked.
"I'm... I'm at the h-hospital," she said, swallowing the lump in her throat.
"What? Why?" Raven asked. Brienne breathed deeply and clutched the hem of her uniform.
"Just a follow-up checkup," she swiftly lied. Brienne wasn't ready to tell it yet. After what happened to her previous relationship, Brienne was afraid of what Raven would say.
"Do you need a ride back to the office? I can take you; just tell me where the hospital is located," Raven said. Brienne shook her head, as if Raven could see her, and looked at the line.
"No need, I'm alright," Brienne replied.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Raven asked once again.
"Yes, it's just a checkup, nothing less," Brienne said. She heard Raven heave a sigh.
"Okay, fine. I'll see you later," Raven said.
"Hmm, see you," Brienne answered and ended the call. She waited for about an hour until her last name was called. Brienne thanked the secretary and went inside. The doctor greeted her, and a series of tests were conducted on her and her baby.
"All good. Baby is perfectly fine and healthy," the doctor said. "Just take the medicine I prescribed, and you'll be fine. Eat healthy food too. So far, you are doing good," she added.
"Doc, can I ask something?" Brienne said as she could feel herself blushing. The doctor nodded her head and looked at her.
"What is it?" the doctor asked.
"Can we still..." Brienne couldn't get the word out of her mouth. The doctor smiled at her.
"Sex? Yes, it's safe, but you still have to be careful. Don't overdo it," the doctor said. Brienne nodded her head and went out of the clinic once she was done with everything. Holding the prescription paper, she headed to the pharmacy. After buying all the necessary medicine, she put it in her bag and went out of the hospital.
Brienne called for a taxi. She arrived at the company twenty minutes later. Brienne got out of the car and thanked the driver. She entered the company and rode the elevator to their department. Every person she would encounter along the way would greet her, and Brienne forced a smile in return. Upon entering their department, Brienne exasperatedly sighed and plopped on her swivel chair.
"Are you alright?" Janice asked, and the documents were handed to her. "The manager gave me this. I have already checked it; I just need the additional report," she added.
"I'll hand it to you later, Nice," Brienne replied. "I don't think I'm fine," she said and sighed once again.
"People kept staring and greeting me like I'm sort of an important person in this company," Brienne said.
"Well, the rumours aren't dying down anytime soon. It's best to ignore them," Janice said. "Where did you go anyway?" she added. Brienne bit her bottom lips and leant closer.
"Are you free later? I have something to tell you," she whispered. Janice looked at her with raised eyebrows.
"Who am I going to fight?" Janice asked and raised her clenched fist. Brienne let out a chuckle and shook her head.
"We are not fighting anyone," she said. Janice smiled at her friend.
"Alright, talk to you later then," Janice said. Janice left and returned to her table, while Brienne began working on her reports. She glanced at her bag, her medicines, and her stomach. It's about time she say it to Janice.
