Chapter 96. The Sibling's Burden

“She has an amazing metabolism. Previously there may have been a misdiagnosis."

"Are you accusing The Kellent Hospital of making a mistake?" Taggart immediately interrupted angrily.

"I didn't assume it like that,"

“I do not tolerate any mistakes whatsoever occurring. This is a disgrace. I can sue this hospital for defaming the Kellent Center.” Taggart was immediately accused with emotion. Billy snorted in disbelief. Taggart is very selfish and won't listen to anything. Billy had no intention of telling anyone about Pearl at all. it would be better if Taggart didn't know Pearl's true identity.

“You can't sue this hospital, Mr. Taggart. Quite the opposite. We will do it because The Kellent Center gave a false report about Pearl's true condition.”

Taggart panting hard holding his anger. He gritted his jaw and stared coldly sharp at Billy. Hence, Billy was giving him such a calm defensive mode.

“Will excuse me, I’ve to get back to my patient.”

Billy immediately left without wanting to think about Taggart. Meanwhile, Taggart felt like he wanted to destroy something. He restrained himself and immediately left.

"I am sorry. I didn't know if the problem would turn out like this," Damian said to Pearl while holding her hand. Pearl seems unsettled after Taggart leaves. He even accused Pearl of lying about her condition.

“I didn't know he would think that far.” Pearl whimpered sadly. He looked disappointed and Damian could see it. Damian approached and touched the tip of Pearl's chin. He lifted his chin so he could see his eyes.

“Don't think too much about it. He always is an angry man.”

“Why did he accuse me like that? I couldn't have staged a kidnapping." Pearl looked even more annoyed at Damian with teary eyes. He looked like she was going to cry but Damian shook his head.

"Don't cry. You still have to rest and don't stress. Even if you no longer have injuries, that doesn't mean you're fully recovered.” Damian gives Pearl his best advice.

"You should rest now. It's very late. Do you want me to call a nurse?" Pearl shook her head at Damian's kind offer. Damian smiled and then helped Pearl lie down. He pulled Pearl's blankets up until she was comfortable. Damian also kissed her forehead and smiled gently at her.

"Do not be afraid. I will always be on your side." Pearl didn't say anything. He was just stunned and just stared at Damian who had finally left her room.

Damian closed the door to Pearl's room with a smile. He thought for a moment and smiled even wider.

“This time I will make Taggart pay helplessly. He will never get Pearl ever again.”

Damian got out of the elevator and walked alone towards the lobby. he would go home without realizing that someone was following him behind him. Taggart quickly grabbed Damian's shoulder and then hit him right in the face.

"Ah!" Damian fell to the asphalt.

“You are a scumbag, Damian. Why don't you give up on chasing Pearl? What have you done with her!?” Taggart snapped and pointed at Damian angrily. Damian held his face smiled and chuckled. Over time, his laughter grew louder and mocked Taggart. Taggart will let loose and he could kill Damian.

“Haha, Tagg. You will become someone Pearl hates. You've hurt him with your accusations, haha.” Taggart gasped in silence looking at Damian. He shook his head in disbelief at Damian's ploy. His cousin was cunning.

“Fuck.” Taggart cursed under his breath. Damian didn't care about Taggart's anger. He wants to enjoy the initial victory which will become a real victory.

“Whatever you want to say, Tagg. You've lost. You will never win any of this.” Taggart's eyes glinted serenely. Yet, Damian didn't lose it. He smirked smudged at him showing his evilness.

“I will kill you, Damian. I will finish you off with my own hands. This time I will not let go of your family at all.” Taggart emphasized his threat to Damian. Damian just watched Taggart lose his influence little by little. He didn't want to reply because everyone had turned against Taggart.

Taggart left the parking lot. He got into his car in a fit of anger. Meanwhile, Damian just sat for a moment in the parking lot. He grinned before standing up and getting into his car.

The night passed unpleasantly for Taggart, Pearl, and Damian. Damian had succeeded in making Taggart angry. But isn't that the same as digging one's own grave? Damian hadn't thought about it before but now he had to consider it all.

“What should I do if Taggart trusts Pearl again? I have to prevent all that from happening. I don't want to be kicked out of this pack. if Taggart gets the Pearl, he'll kill me, that's for sure.” Damian thought about his fate which could change quickly.

In his place, Taggart won't be able to sleep tonight. he was thinking about the thing that made him angry. Over time, these thoughts only made Taggart suffer more. He didn't want to lose Pearl, but as time went on, Taggart felt the wall between them getting higher. For some reason, Tamara's words rang in Taggart's mind.

“Think of your family before you think of her. She will leave you and you will get nothing but sadness.”

Taggart sat on the edge of the bed and then bent his body. He crumpled his hair with both hands. It feels like it's getting more and more confusing. He didn't want to sleep at all.

Likewise with Pearl. Even though she was in a comfortable room, Pearl couldn't close her eyes one bit. half of her heart missed Taggart, but she couldn't accept Taggart's accusations which had also hurt her feelings.

Nothing happened for two days after that. Pearl was able to leave the hospital in peace. She was finally able to come to visit John. Briana controlled the atmosphere well, giving the right reason why Pearl had just visited her.

"I got a special project where I had to do research out of town, Dad. I can't refuse," said Pearl, giving a reason that she agreed with Briana. John nodded in understanding and accepted the slightly unreasonable reason. Briana smiled when she heard that. She glanced at Sandra. Sandra didn't seem happy to see Pearl finally return.

"Then what about your job?"

"I'll come back after resting, Dad." Pearl gave her reasons. She had to cover up her sadness because she had been fired. But Pearl covered all that. She didn't want to disappoint her father. Pearl will look for another job as long as she can be an intern. Even if she couldn't, she would think about it later.

“I am also healthy and can go home. I'll be back next month." Pearl smiled and then nodded.

Seeing an opportunity, Sandra grabbed Pearl's arm and took her to the corner of the room. It all happened while Briana was putting away John's clothes. She growled irritably at Pearl.

“Tell me what happened. How did you get here?” Sandra kept her voice down as she intimidated Pearl. Pearl was a little afraid to face Sandra. She just shook his head.

“Listen, to me? Your father is getting better. So I don't want you to come with bad news like what happened to you a few days ago. If I hear you mention the kidnapping, I won't hesitate to skin you, understand?” Sandra threatened with wide eyes. Pearl just kept quiet and didn't answer. She had resigned himself to whatever happened.

Keith walked quickly to the lab to receive the results of the DNA test he had done. Not long after, Doctor Louis came out to see Keith.

"How? What was the result?” Keith asked impatiently. Louis took a deep breath and then invited Keith to discuss.

“I will give you these results, but I want you to promise me one thing. Never kick Pearl out of your home regardless of her status. Once I'm sure, I'll pick him up.”

"What!" Keith shrieked in disbelief. Louis immediately gave him a piece of paper containing information about the test carried out in the name of Pearl Rosenthal. Keith immediately opened. His heart seemed to have fallen out. When he saw the numbers listed, Keith covered his mouth with his hand.

"This,"

"Promise you will continue to love him. He's still your little brother even though you're not related."

Keith burst into tears. He sat down and rubbed his head which suddenly hurt. that fact turned out to be true. When Keith found out that Pearl wasn't his real sister, that was the worst moment for him.

Doctor Louis approached Keith and sat next to him. He rubbed Keith's shoulder encouraging him.

“If she's not my real brother, then who are her parents? How to find them? What happened?" so many questions strike at once. Keith was confused. Meanwhile, Louis can't open his mouth at this time about Pearl's identity.

“One day you will find out. But now, you have to protect her from the Kellent family, especially Taggart. Don't let him be with Pearl.”
