Chapter thirty-six
“You’re looking good, Tessa.” She said with a smile that wasn’t something I’d seen on her face before.
“I’m a Luna now,” I said, and she stepped forward. Both men besides me were about to pounce when I stepped forward.
“Stop. Enough with the chit chat, Melissa. What do you want from me?” I asked her.
“I want you to come back with me, we can rule the dragon Kingdom together. Heard someone killed him. Isn’t that right?” she said.
“I’ve got a mate now and a pack to run. I don’t have time for playing princess anymore,” I snapped.
Her face grew red with anger.
“That’s all it's been about, right? You never threw yourself at my feet because you’re sweet Tessa who waits for her mate like a good little girl,” she said, and my mouth hung open in disbelief.
“Is this what’s it all about? All this trouble because you gave me my first orgasm? Oh, my goddess, Melissa grow up.” I told her. And like a switch, she snapped.
“I LOVED YOU!” she yelled, and I shook my head.
“No. You didn’t love me. We shared a strong friendship that you mistook for love,” I told her.
“I don’t want to kill you Tessa, but if I can’t take you with me, all my wolves will break everything you ever loved. Even your precious little mate,” she spat.
“I’d like to see you try,” I dared, and she smirked, before howling at the rising moon.
Wolves sprang from the trees and war broke out. Snarling and the tearing of flesh shook the air, making everything seem so loud.
“Let me take control,” my wolf said.
“No. This is something that has to be dealt with in human form.”
I and Melissa met at the center and she was the first to throw a punch which I dodged. I lifted my knee up and kicked her, which sent her thin frame flying through the air.
Her cheekbones were so visible and for one second, I doubted fighting her, afraid to break her. I guess she didn’t care because she charged at me, jumped up, and before I could dodge, she kicked my jaw.
I tasted the copper of my blood and my jaw hung; I couldn’t move my mouth, so I clicked my jaw into place.
“Oh look, it’s the pack’s slut. Fucking the most vicious Alpha, front back and center,” she said in an animalistic tone.
“No!” I screamed and grabbed her shirt, ramming my head against hers.
She stumbled back as I saw stars and I planted my feet firmly on the ground.
“WHY?” I screamed and she laughed wickedly, looking at me.
“You got rid of me that day you found Mr. Oh-so-sexy.” She spat.
“He’s my mate for heavens sakes, Melissa, I’m not going to reject him for some early morning ‘romance’ you believe we shared,” I said to her.
Suddenly everything slowed and I looked around me. Wolf bodies scattered the green field, leaving ugly pools of red blood.
No. This is not who I am. My wolves will not die because of me.
My head snapped in Melissa’s direction as she threw a fist. I caught it and she looked at me.
“I could kill you right now, but I’ve got to be a leader for my pack. Not the murderer of a best friend,” I growled and punched her, on the bridge of her nose. She fell limp. Unconscious.
I dropped her roughly on the floor as the rest of the war came to a halt.
The blonde with green eyes ran to Melissa and he looked at me wickedly.
“She’s your mate,” I stated, and he nodded.
“She never wanted me, only used me to get to you because I had the link to the dragon king,” he said softly.
I nodded and kneeled down.
“You and Melissa will be sent to the council, along with whatever wolves you two have left. I’m sure they’ve got space in the Underground Prison,” I said and got up as Alpha Kurt sent two wolves to get them.
He looked battered and bruised and naked.
“Ummm,” he turned quickly and turned into his big wolf.
I turned around and Lucian came up to me.
“Tessa—” but I didn’t hear what he said next because everything went black.
“Is she going to be okay?” a familiar voice said being my closed eyelids.
“Internal bleeding and cracked jaw. Nothing too serious,” I heard the doctor say.
“And the babies?”
“Growing at exceptional speeds but nothing seems to be broken.”
“Thank you.”
I heard a door close and Lucian held my hand tightly. My eyes fluttered open and I flinched at the light coming through the window.
“Tessa, can you hear me?” Lucian said hurriedly. I gave him a throaty laugh.
“Fit as a fiddle,” I said and smiled.
“And the pack?” I asked and he lowered his head.
“We, we lost Nate. He had given permission to allow them to transfer the necessary organs to Natalie if he did not make it. He also left her a little something,” he said and smiled.
“He left her some of his sperm, so when she got better, she would be able to carry their children.”
“I’m so sorry to hear about Nate,” I whispered.
“I’m more worried about you sweetheart. How are you feeling?” He asked in concern.
“I’m doing fine and craving some of my mom’s lemon meringue,” I said and smiled.
He laughed and leaned over to give me a soft kiss.
I growled softly.
“Keep doing that and I might need to pull you on this bed with me,” I said smirking.
“Doesn’t sound too bad of an idea,” he said and climbed in next to me.
