Chapter eleven
He was probably the most beautiful wolf I’d ever seen.
I gaped at the muscular limbs of the creature. What seemed odd was that wolves never grew this big and where did all the skin and meat come from to form the creature if Lucian was only half the size.
“What? Never seen fifteen feet of perfection?” He said and I realized he was speaking to me.
I jumped slightly and he smirked, the act sending chills down my spine.
“Alpha, you’re scaring her,” Nathaniel said, and it was the first time I’d seen him with a bead of sweat on his forehead.
He was scared of this wolf.
“Move aside pup and let my mate pass.” The wolf boomed, with a bored expression on his face.
Nathaniel sent me a look of apology over his shoulder and bowed his head, submitting to his alpha.
He moved away, letting me pass.
I swallowed deeply and moved towards what felt like certain death.
The wolf lay down and crossed his paws in front of him as if he was a king. Which in this case, he was, kind of.
He dropped his big snout to take a good whiff of me and growled in approval.
He was quiet for a few seconds as if examining me.
“You and my human will make strong pups,” he said, and I burst out laughing.
The other wolves looked scared and the Alpha looked at me with confusion.
“I demand to know what is so funny,” he said, and I wiped the tear that fell off my face away.
I didn’t know whether I felt scared of him or the fact he actually said I’d have good-looking kids with Lucian.
Or maybe…I was totally freaking out about the gigantic wolf that was speaking to me.
“Nothing,” I breathlessly.
“It’s just the fact that a wolf is talking to me.”
He grinned.
A full toothy grin too.
He stood again. Puffing out his hairy chest with pride and closed his eyes for a few minutes to enjoy the feeling.
I stood there in silence, my body was beginning to shake in a mix of fear and anticipation.
I closed my eyes and not long after followed the sounds of bones cracking and groaning. My eyes shot open and saw Lucian kneeling on the floor naked and holding his head.
Everybody ran towards him and I could hear them all talking at the same time.
“Are you okay?”
“Do you need some water?”
“Must we call the pack doctor?”
I heard Lucian telling them that he was fine and finally he saw me. Standing all alone. His eyes were filled with guilt and began to get up.
I shook my head while backing up from his naked figure.
“No, no, no,” I mumbled but he didn’t stop walking towards me.
“Tessa.” He said and reached a hand out but I dodged it and ran for the forest.
“Tessa!” He screamed but I didn’t stop. The fear in me triggered my wolf and I felt my own bones deform and my clothes started ripping and my body began expanding.
Then before I knew I was sprinting on all fours towards the one place I knew where I wouldn’t need to fear.
Home.
Lucian’s POV
I paced back and forth in my office while my beta was trying to tell me that my mate hadn’t been found.
It had been five hours since she’d ran, and my body was twitching every hour or so due to my very angry wolf.
“She ran from you. What makes you think going to find her in human form is a good idea?”
I told my wolf and he scowled and retreated to the back of my mind where I wouldn’t be able to reach him.
Not hearing a single word my beta was saying, I told him to go. Just as he reached the door my third in command rushed in breathless while his face beamed.
“We found her.” He said and I turned to him.
“Where?” I said and began to pick up my phone, grabbing my suit jacket.
“She went to her old pack.” He said and we rushed out of the pack house. I climbed into my car and rushed away with the others in the jeep behind me.
Tessa’s POV
I woke up to the sound of a phone buzzing and picked it up without looking at the caller ID.
“Hello?” I said sleepily.
“We’ve got some things to sort out.” It was Lucian. I was suddenly very awake and sat up.
“Go outside to the forest behind your room.” He said and I walked to the window of my old room and saw him standing on the edge of the forest.
He was looking up at me.
“Okay,” I whispered and pulled on my jeans, a pair of boots, and one of my lazy jerseys.
As I walked down the stairs my father looked at me with a sad look and bowed his head. When I’d arrived, they’d been hesitant when I told them not to phone Lucian and finally, my mom came and said I could stay.
When I reached Lucian, I noticed his white short sleeve was partially opened on top, revealing some of his tanned chest underneath.
He motioned me to walk into the forest, not making any moves to touch me.
“I’m sorry you had to witness that.” He said softly and I crossed my arms over my tummy as we walked.
“I just want an explanation,” I whispered softly.
He nodded and we entered a clearing. He sat down on a log and I sat down next to him.
He clasped his hands together and looked at me.
“My mother was young and fell in love with a man. She knew exactly what she was doing falling for him but never expected him to break her heart.”
“After a few months, she fell pregnant with me and realized that the man she loved only wanted her for a son to take over for him when he was too old.
“They separated before I was born, and my mother raised me for five years before she started seeing changes in me.”
“What kind of changes?” I asked.
“Well, I began breathing fire, and scales started appearing on my wolf. She sent me back to my father where he raised me to be ruthless like him and use women. He’d never had a child with anyone else, so I was his only child.”
“When I was sixteen, when the final changes happened, I ran away and started my own pack. Because you see, my mother was the moon goddess and was in her first one-hundredth year when she met my father. The king of the Dragon Kingdom.”
