Protecting Scarlett!

When morning came, Mace dashed to the door and knocked. Simon opened the door and welcomed Mace inside. Mace was panting heavily. It was so obvious that he had run. "There's a problem, Alpha," he said.

Simon had been working in his office. Since he returned home after dropping Scarlett off, he has gone to Uncle Viggo's house to clear Scarlett's scent. "What exactly is it, Mace?" he inquired. He knew exactly what Mace was going to say.

"This morning, your uncle was discovered dead in his home."

"What?" He pretended to be taken aback.

"Alpha. I had no idea he could be killed."

"He may be immortal, but even he can be killed by one of his own."

"Do you mean he was killed by a werewolf?" Mace was perplexed.

"He has so many enemies. Even enemies from the past. It could have been done by anyone who despised him." Simon walked over to the couch and grabbed his jacket. He'd left it there last night when Scarlett walked home covered in dirt and blood. "Did they say anything about how he died?"

"His heart was discovered next to him on the ground. There was a goblet of wine on the ground, but there was no cut or scent, but I can tell who attacked him went for his heart."

"I think we should leave," Simon said as he approached the door. Mace walked alongside him.

As they approached Uncle Viggo's house, they noticed a large number of werewolves outside. Simon was allowed to enter the house. He could see his uncle's life less on the ground as he walked into the living room. The heart was still in the same position that he had seen the night before.

He shifted his gaze to Mace. "Any sign of Adolpha and Anton yet?"

Mace shook his head. "Not at all. I asked around, and neither of them had been seen in days."

Simon let out a low growl. "What are both of them up to now?" He muttered it under his breath. "What about the maid? Did she notice anyone entering the mansion?"

"The maid hasn't been seen. It appears that she has fled."

Simon nodded slowly. He had asked her to leave without being seen and had threatened to have her killed if she said anything about what had happened on the scene. He'd go to such lengths to protect Scarlett. "She would have gone a long way. Let's get ready to bury him." Simon turned to leave when he noticed Adolpha entering the house with tears in her eyes.

"Uncle Viggo." She dashed past Simon before kneeling in front of her uncle. She screamed angrily. She turned her gaze to Simon. "Who is responsible for this?" She asked.

"Where have you been, Adolpha?" Simon used his eyes to look around. He faced Adolpha again when he couldn't see or smell Anton. "And where is your brother?"

"Who is responsible for this?" Adolpha repeated.

"Answer me. Scarlett's coronation was yesterday, as was my wedding. You didn't even show up, despite the fact that all werewolves were aware of it."

"No one cares about that b*tch, brother. I had a lot on my plate. My uncle is dead. He was your uncle as well. Why don't I see you grieving over his death? Coronation? Scarlett?" Adolpha took a look around. "Where is she now? Why isn't she even here?"

"Where have you been for days, Adolpha?" Simon frowneed.

Adolpha rose to her feet. "With a friend."

"You don't have any friends."

"And how would you know that, Alpha? How could you possibly know anything about me when you spend all of your time thinking about that b*tch? She occupies your thoughts and occupies your mind. How then would you know if I have a friend or not?" She turned away from Simon and returned to Uncle Viggo's body. She had been seeing Luke all along. Making plans for how to ambush the pack. She'd also tell him where he should go if he wanted to find Simon.

"Make certain that he is buried today. I don't want anyone around here anymore." Simon spoke in hushed tones to Mace.

"And Adolpha?"

"From now on, she'll be staying in the pack house."

"Alpha. That is something you cannot take away from her. He was the one who was the closest to them. They'd be devastated if you sent them to the pack house."

"And if I let them stay here, they'd want to find out who killed him."

"And you don't want that?" Mace asked. Simon averted his gaze for a moment before returning it to Mace. "Oh, my goodness. Why do I get the impression you know something I don't?"

Simon took a deep breath. "If they stay here any longer, the scent will appear. I don't want that."

"Did you kill him?"

"No."

"Did you know who killed him?" Simon hesitated. "Oh. You do. Who is it, Alpha? Who are you trying to protect?"

"No one. Just do your job and get rid of the body. Get everyone out of here. Lock this place up or burn it down."

Mace nodded slowly. "I know. I understand why you're acting this way. Why hadn't I considered it before?"

"You know nothing, Mace." Simon started walking, and Mace followed.

"Was it Scarlett?" Simon came to a halt when Mace spoke. "Was it?"

Simon took a breather as he turned to Mace. "No. She didn't do it. Raven did."

"Oh, sh*t."

"Exactly. Raven and Viggo have known each other for a long time. He killed her Luna and all this time she had looked for him. She had been desperate to kill him when she found him on the night of the mating ceremony."

"That makes sense. It's no surprise she didn't give in to Luna. Luna had been nothing more than a vessel for her vengeance all along."

"Scarlett was well aware. She had known all along and wanted Raven to have her revenge. She believed that only then would Raven be able to find peace."

"How about last night?"

"Scarlett tried to stop her, but she didn't listen. She put Scarlett to sleep and murdered Viggo. Using Scarlett's hand." Simon let out a sigh. "I'm not sure about this bad luck thing because I've never believed in it, but Scarlett is concerned. I instructed her to remain in the human settlement until everything calmed down. Mace. You have to help me. This is the only way I can protect her because Raven will not be held accountable. Scarlett was unable to tame her wolf, which could result in her death if the pack discovers that her wolf murdered Uncle Viggo. That is something I am sure you do not want."

"Of course. I don't. I will get everyone out of here and make sure Scarlett is protected."
