The Book of the Night Walkers!
Augusta followed Scarlett's car from a safe distance. She has been following them ever since she received a call from Latifah. Augusta was made aware of October's departure. This is the only time she can keep an eye on what her nephew is up to. Latifah being assigned as their maid was Augusta's choice. Making Latifah's payment double if she tells her everything that happens at the O'Hara mansion. She came to a halt and watched Scarlett and the girls get out of the car.
Scarlett gasped when she saw the building. They'd taken a road that was not well known in society. The Organisation was located deep deep. Taxis were unable to reach the location. Only cars owned by the members or the family. "This is really big."
"What do you suppose they do on the inside?" Avery asked Mia.
"Some kind of ritual? I couldn't stay till the end."
While the girls were talking, Augusta took a sandwich from her bag and began to eat. She had always wanted Scarlett to know about her family, but she never imagined that Mia would also find out and that they would band together. Well, to her, this was a smart approach. She couldn't wait for a fight to break out between October and her daughters for lying to them their entire lives.
"The key?" Mia inquired, extending her hand to Scarlett.
Scarlett took the key from her purse and handed it to her sister. Mia approached the door and inserted the key into the lock. They were all curious to see if it was the correct key. "Did it fit in?" Then they heard a click.
Mia smiled as she turned to face them. "Who's up for an adventure?" She pushed the door open with the help of the other three.
Scarlett reached for her phone as she entered the large, dark hall and turned on the touch light. She moved the light around, trying to find the light switch. Mia discovered it and turned it on, brightening the corridor. Scarlett slipped her phone back into her pocket as they resumed their walk.
"Let me show you where grandfather was preaching." Mia led the way to the large hall. It was dark, but she found the switch and turned it on. The three girls exclaimed in unison. "I was also astounded by how well-organised it is."
"It looks like a cult," Cornelia said as she approached.
The girls followed suit.
Something drew Scarlett's attention and caused her to come to a halt. She indicated with a finger. "Is that a statue?" Getting the attention of the girls, she approached it, her mouth covered with her hand. "What the fuck?"
"Is that blood pouring from the werewolf's heart?" Avery asked.
"Grandfather is a bad person. What is all this?" Scarlett grew increasingly irritated by the sound of blood pouring from the heart into the reservoir.
"That is not blood." As she got closer, Mia said. "It is not thick."
"But it's red," Cornelia pointed out.
"Do you believe it is used for their ritual?" Avery asked.
Mia shrugged. "Don't bother asking me. I know nothing." She returned her attention to the water and took a deep breath. "This clearly demonstrates how much grandfather despises werewolves. You need to be careful, Scarlett. You really need to be careful with your own family." She made a clapping motion with her hands. "However, we are here for something far more important."
"And what is far more important than what we have just discovered?" Scarlett questioned. She couldn't believe this was actually her family's job. What had werewolves ever done to them to make them want to kill? Then she remembered. Her father. Perhaps they are attempting to avenge his death. Things will be bloody if a war breaks out soon. She needs to find a way to warn the werewolves about what is about to happen, but how will she find her father's murderer if she just lets it all go?
"We must also search his office for more information. When we're finished, we can come back here and stare at it. We don't have much time. It will be 6 a.m. in 5 hours and 45 minutes. Believe me, this is our only chance." Mia said, and they all left the statue and followed her to the office.
When they left through a door found after the altar, Augusta came out of hiding and stared at the werewolf, her hands folded across her chest. "The red holy water." She took a deep breath. She couldn't touch it because stealing from it wasn't accepted. According to her father, she could die from drinking it if she only wants to use it for greed.
She waited to see what the girls would discover next. Things were becoming more interesting for Augusta. If Scarlett finds out everything and starts to hate the werewolf, she will avenge her father's death.
Avery and Cornelia started inspecting drawers. "What are we looking for exactly?" Avery asked Mia.
"Anything related to my family history. It should definitely be in this office." Scarlett replied. Just by looking around, she can tell they'd find far too much in that office. She began to look through walls as if they were a scroll or something of the sort you find in movies. "There are no gaps in the walls." She turned to face her friends. "Found anything?"
"No." Avery said.
"Just this book that appears to be large and old," Cornelia explained.
"Did you say old?" Mia asked. Cornelia nodded, and Mia dashed over to her. "Give me the book." Cornelia bent down, carried the book up, and placed it on the table. The dust was so thick that the girls began to cough. Mia covered her nose with one arm while dusting the book with the other. "Let's see what we can come up with in there." Mia flipped open the cover, which was quite heavy. She was taken aback when she couldn't find anything. As she began flipping the papers one after the other, her gaze met the rest of them.
"What is going on?" Scarlett asked.
"It's empty," Mia stated.
"Empty?" Scarlett approached the book and flipped it open to see what was inside. "It is really empty."
"However, what if it's not?" Avery said. "Things like this happen in movies. Blank paper with messages inside."
"Invisible message." Both Avery and Cornelia stated.
"But this isn't a movie. It is real life." Scarlett said.
"First, let's find a UV light." Avery reached for the drawer and yanked it open. She noticed a light that was just sitting there. She took it and turned it on. "It's a lot easier than I thought." She pushed Mia aside and stepped in front of the book. "Let's see how it goes." She turned on the light and shone it on the book, and the words began to appear almost immediately. Scarlett and Mia locked gazes.
"Avery, you are a genius." Mia exclaimed with delight. They couldn't believe they had just found an invisible message. "What exactly does it say?"
Avery began to read. "It appears to be a list of names." She continued to read. Her hand traced the names before coming to a halt. She looked up at Cornelia. "Your family's name is in there, Cornelia."
"What?" Cornelia approached Avery to check. "What the fuck? Why is it there?"
Avery continued to read and then sighed. "And so are my families." She looked at Scarlett. "It appears that they are all part of the same werewolf killing cult."
"This is crazy. I can't believe they withheld all of this information from us."
"I suppose it all makes sense now, Scarlett. The necklace. Remember? They all had one." Avery said.
"What should we do now?" Cornelia asked. "We can't just confront them." She added.
"I believe there are some things inside this book that we still need to discover." Scarlett said.
"What exactly are you proposing?" Mia asked.
"We bring the book with us. We learn more and return it to its original location."
"Are you insane?" The three girls asked.
"It's the only way." Scarlett said as she approached the book.
"Or we could take pictures." Avery suggested. "That is better. Nobody would ever know we were ever here."
Scarlett and Mia both shook their heads. "We won't be able to obtain all of the information. This book is so big. Besides, no one would know we were here. We're not going to get caught." Scarlett closed the book and took it with her as the girls ran out of the room, turning off the lights. Scarlett paused on their way out to inspect the fountain.
Avery poured some of the water into a bottle and placed it in her bag. "For examining," she said when all eyes were on her.
Augusta noticed the girls hurrying out the door. "Wow, that was quick." She checked the time, and it was nearly 2 a.m. She narrowed her eyes to see what Scarlett was holding. "Oh, no. The Book of the Night Walkers. She found it." Augusta burst out laughing. Scarlett will learn everything she needs to know about their family in that book. However, there will be one interruption. Her grandfather. If he discovers that the book has vanished, all hell will break loose.
