Aurora's POV
There is this comforting feeling that wells up from my inside each time I remember that Finnah was around. It has been a while since I felt that way with anyone and I am glad that I hadn't lost that feeling of vulnerability with her.
"Who is busy wrestling with the pots and plates this early morning?" Alpha Simeon teased as he stepped into the kitchen, his face beaming with smiles as he spoke. The smile on his face had a familiar touch to it. I had seen it a couple of times and I knew the message encoded in those smiles of his.
I didn't want to state the obvious. I just focused on my cooking with a smirk stealing a corner of my face. At least, that was enough support for his broad grin. "What are you preparing?" Alpha Simeon asked, stretching his neck to look into my pot from where he stood drinking water from a glass in his hand.
Even if I didn't have the best culinary skills, it didn't deter me from preparing some of my meals whenever I had a strong craving for such food. What I didn't understand was the sudden interrogation about the type of meal I was preparing.
Alpha Simeon doesn't have the luxury of time to dilly dally around the house poke nosing in my business or those of the maid but lately, I have observed that he seemed to have ample time on his hands to, particularly, follow me around disguising he had a serious question to ask me for the betterment of the pack.
I just hope it isn't what I was thinking at all. "I am making something befitting for my stomach alone," I replied to his earlier question. "Oh, come on! You are not that selfish. I know you to be open-handed with gifts. What is tightening those hands now?" He played along with me.
"Let's cut to the chase, I was craving some creamy pasta with beef cutlet dipped in cheese. That's all," she said, wearing a stern look on her face. She knew that if she continued to play along, the conversation would keep going till she got tired of it.
"Aurora, I like you a lot and I would love to know your thoughts about this," he said, his face growing soft and pleading. His voice sounded sober. His hand fiddled with the glass in his hands. "I care about you a lot, Aurora and you know that but your response towards me has always been cold anytime I bring up this conversation," he continued, resting the glass cup in his hand on the counter.
"You must know that I appreciate the great care you have shown me and my kids so far in this pack. Not once have I taken your care for granted but I just do not feel the same way about you," I said throwing my face to the side, I didn't want to catch his gaze or look into those poppy eyes of his.
I just wanted my decision to be as rational as possible. No emotional interference at all. "Is there someone else, Aurora? I deserve to know so that I do not keep having my hopes raised and dashed like I do not know what I am doing. Talk to me, Aurora," he said, looking straight at me like he desperately wanted to read into me to fish out the truth from me. “There's no one at all. It's just that I do not want to dabble--”
“…into emotional entanglements,” He helped me complete my words with a blank face and a tinge of sneer in his voice. “Really? Who broke your heart, Aurora and why is it too hard for you to heal and be opened towards love again? You need to consider it,” He bemused, his voice soft and caring as he stood a breath away from me.
“…and what needs to be considered?” Finnah sauntered into the kitchen, her face beaming with smiles. Her eyebrows shaking out a teasing look. “I would get going now,” Alpha Simeon said, breaking away from me as he took steps towards the door.
“Not so fast brother! Are you leaving the kitchen simply because I walked in?” she interrogated playfully, the soothing smile never leaving her face. “I was already preparing to head out for a run before you came along,” he replied hastily and without waiting for her response he was out of the kitchen.
“Lover girl. I see you are taking a liking for my brother, huh?” Finnah drew closer to where I was now seated, slurping in a spoonful of creamy pasta garnished with beef cutlets dipped in cheese. “You and I know that I have no interest in your brother,” I responded, slightly fiddling with my spoon as I partly ate and partly listened to her.
She seemed to be taken aback by the statement I had just uttered about my zero feelings for her brother. She dragged a chair and sat opposite me, peering into my face as though searching for hidden truths that the surface couldn’t provide. She wondered why I hadn’t yet fallen for her brother.
“Why haven’t you fallen for my brother yet? I mean any lady would be delighted to have him by their side,”
“I do not think of him the way you expect that I think of him. I Only see him as a friend and a great leader who I should obey,” I explained without looking at her face. “What of your baby daddy? Don’t you feel an emotional pull towards him? You seldom speak of him,” Finnah continued to ask.
I hadn’t told any of them who the father of my kids was. I tried to divert the conversation to another topic, especially the subject of the recent rogue invasions but Finnah kept dragging the conversation to Alpha Killian and fantasizing about what he looked like, reiterating that she had heard a lot of stunning things about his handsomeness.
I felt a bit of discomfort about the topic. Just when I attested to the fact that he truly is handsome, I saw him walk into the kitchen with his muscled chest looking so alluring to caress.
