Aurora’s POV

The tugging at the door intensified. I tried to use eye contact to communicate with Michelle, the nanny to take the kids to their rooms peradventure something terrible happens in the room.

Come to think of it, who in their right mind would think to raid a Beta’s house and while at it, in broad daylight? I quickly reached for the golf club resting on the waistcoat hanger beside the door. As I held onto the club, my claw began to shoot out.

My wolf had sensed a potential danger and was trying its best to protect me but I wasn’t ready to shift into my wolf form, at the least not in the presence of my kids and the nanny. ‘But you would shift in the face of danger, whether or not your kids were there?’ My wolf quizzed.

‘What if the man behind the door is armed to the teeth, what would be the fate of my kids and I?’ I thought, dropping the club in my hand and bolting the door from the rear. I sighted the heater adjacent to the centre table. Beside it was an aesthetic log of wood. It was a gift from Alpha Simeon for making his administration seamless.

I knew it weighed quite a ton. I quickly aimed for it and pulled it towards the door as a wedge to take in the force from the knock that had fast become an incessant pounding.

Having done that, I made for the room where I assumed Michelle and the kids were. Carefully, I opened the door and signalled Michelle to come out with the kids.

Jasmine was already panicky; her palms were sweaty and her eyes were teary. I knelt before her, holding her chin in my hands as I bent my head to make eye contact with her. “JayJay, you need to keep calm, nothing is gonna happen to you because mummy is here with you,” I encouraged, darting my gaze from her to Jake.

“Come here,” I said, scooping them into my arms for a consoling embrace as I patted them on the head.

Michelle made to pack a small bag for the kids but I waved her a firm no seeing how urgent it was that we needed to leave. As we throttle to the back of the door, I noticed that the thudding on the door had ceased.

I didn’t know if someone was still behind the door or had relented and returned to whence he came from. Suddenly, Jake’s leg mistakenly kicked one of his toys that lay carelessly on the floor. The sound reverberated through the room causing us all to halt in our tracks with eyes wide open for what might happen next.

Surprisingly, the awful knock on the door continued. The funny thing about the knocks is that the person behind the door never came with a voice to it. No words were spoken. Just knocks, knocks and more knocks.

Hastily, we passed through the back door and out of the building. Once out, we aimed for Alpha Simeon’s place house. It wasn’t the best option for me at the moment, seeing that the father of my kids is in that same building but in the face of this daunting challenge, going to his house is a haven at least for my kids, pending when I secure a better place for us.

As we walked down to the main road, we flagged down a cab that took us straight to Alpha Simeon’s place. The ride to his house was filled with gloom. The heaviness was palpable in the air and the kids’s spirits were down-casted.

“Aurora? I thought you just left here a few hours ago,” Alpha Killian said pointing in the direction of the road as his brows creased in askance, “Jasmine? Jake? Come on, is everything alright?” he continued to ask, his hands reaching out for the kids.

I walked back to pay off the cab guy. I tucked my hands into my pockets as I walked up to Alpha Simeon again. The look on his face showed that he would have no rest till he had found answers to his questions. I didn’t wait for him to ask again before I started to talk.

“I got back home and Jasmine pointed out that someone was watching us from a distance, I gave no heed to it immediately till a knock was heard on the door. With the first knock came other knocks and then fierce poundings on the door,” I paused to catch my breath, ensuring my lips didn’t quiver as I continued my explanations.

“We escaped her using the back door,” I concluded, signalling Michelle to take the kids in with a slight nod of my head. Jake’s had a stress underlining as I looked deep into them before Michelle carried her away.

“That must be the rogue wolves,” Alpha Simeon said pensively, his hand stroking his beard casually as he spoke. “I won’t be in this pack and have my Beta threatened. I must see to it right away,” said authoritatively as he stormed into the building.

“No! You can’t do this alone,” I cried, running after him frantically.
“Why can’t I do it alone?” He asked me, his breath slightly heavy. There in his eyes, I saw his resilience. I knew that nothing I said or did right now would make him back down.

“Two good heads are better than one. You need help,” I said wriggling out of the warmth that crept up on me from behind. Turning to take a look at the face of the person who had just wrapped his hands around me from behind. Alpha Killian stood there wearing a mischievous grin.

I broke through the awkwardness in the room with my plea to Alpha Killian.
“Please, accompany alpha Killian to search on his mission to Park View Street,” I couldn’t let him know it was my house he was going to. “I do not need help, Aurora. I can handle it,” Alpha Simeon reiterated.

Suddenly, my eyes began to play a fast one on me. The men before me were in twos and threes. My body frame collapsed to the ground with a thud.
