CHAPTER 45

ALPHA MARK'S POV.

After checking my schedule for the day, I knew that the day was going to be a long one filled with the various meetings I had to attend and also sorting out documents that my signature needed to appear on.

But with the day being lucky for me, the first two meetings I was having at the start of the day were canceled because the Clients had something urgent to tackle, leaving me with the third meeting on my schedule which was the company in-board meeting.

Immediately the secretary came to inform me about the start of the meeting, I swiftly got on my feet, knotted back my tie I had initially removed when I arrived at work that morning because it was causing me discomfort, threw on my coat, and left my office.

I got to the conference room in no time, my mind fixed solely on the agenda of the meeting, which was about the company's growth.

This meeting was the type that happened every quarter of the year.

The board came together to discuss if we were about to meet the target for that quarter, the challenges we faced, the target for the next quarter, and most importantly how we would achieve it.

Apart from all the other meetings being held in the company, this was usually my favorite one because then I get to see the margin of growth, and it gives me a lot of inspiration to see that I am doing fine even if the other part of my life was somewhat a mess.

The board members were already seated when I arrived, all of them neatly dressed in soothing colors of suit wear, looking all sharp and presentable.

If there was something that we have never had to over-emphasize in the company and yet, everyone does their absolute best would be the dress code.

The expression they all had on their faces was nothing to take note of as they murmured to each other softly and giggled at intervals.

Their light chatters died down immediately after they noticed my arrival, they got on their feet, and with their head now they chorus their greetings to me.

I replied to their greeting by waving my right hand up before moving on to take my seat at the head of the table.

The meeting started immediately after the pleasantries, with each of the board members giving their insight on what they think would propel the company forward in the next quarter, one after the other.

With my notepad opened before me, I took note of some valid points I would like to pay attention to as I listened with rapt attention.

While some suggested expanding into new markets, both on a global level and on local standards, some suggested that we should partner with more fulfilling companies and others emphasized the importance of innovation and staying ahead of industry trends.

Taking much interest in the idea of partnership with other companies, I threw a question to the house for them to explain further about it, and we had a lively discussion about the potential partnership we should be aiming forward to having with certain individuals and groups and then investment that we should think of securing.

After a long productive talk, I decided to wrap things up, seeing that our time had been far spent.

“Thank you all for your valuable input,” I started off getting on my feet, “Our company has been excelling over time and that is as a result of the collective effort of everyone in this room.”

I paused and darted my eyes across each member of the board across the table, watching how they nodded their head in agreement.

“I’ve taken note of your suggestions and I will pay close attention to them as we move forward,” I paused again to catch my breath this time, rubbing my palms together, “lastly, I would like to admonish us all that we should relentlessly continue to strive for excellence to ensure our growth remains steady.”

The board members nodded their heads in total agreement with what I had just said, and with no further contribution or question, the meeting was adjourned.

I glanced at my wristwatch as I made my way back to my office, it was past 2 pm.

Immediately I got to the office, I gathered my things and left the office in no time, I was headed to Ava’s house.

I had planned to spend the rest of the day with her and the children, a much-needed break from the corporate world.

I arrived at Ava’s house just when the children were returning from school.

Their faces lit up as they saw me, and they rushed over excitedly, hugged me tightly, and immediately went on blabbing about their day to me.

We held hands and walked into the living room, while I sank tiredly into one of the sofas.

Jane, their maid, took the kids upstairs for them to have their bath and change out from their school uniform.

Ava soon joined me in the living room to keep me company.

She was initially in her room when she arrived.

She had just gotten back from work and was changing her dress.

We talked about random things, she spoke about their school days and the school activities that they enjoyed doing the most, her eyes occasionally flicking up the stairs to check on the kids.

There was silence between us at intervals as we spoke, but a comforting one that was punctuated with the children's loud voices and hysterical laughter that filled the living room from their room.

Soon Jane came back downstairs with the children neatly dressed up, and after a little while of contemplating where we should spend the evening, we decided to head down to the park.

The park was filled with so much life and activity when we arrived, children running around with balloons, some spending their time screaming their way on the swings and other toys.

Our first stop was the ice cream truck in the yard, Kenny and Kendall holding tightly to me dragged us there, and I got everyone their desired choice of ice cream and also got them balloons.

Without wasting any much time with us, they ran off to play.

Ava and I moved further into the park, and we found a place to sit on a wooden bench.

“This is their favorite place to be in." Ava said with her eyes flowing to the children as they ran around with other children, their balloons up in the air coming after them.
