CHAPTER 39
ALPHA MARK’S POV.
The next morning I earnestly prayed for, sluggishly approached, its presence not bringing peace to my troubled soul like I thought it would.
The night was a long, restless one for me, my thoughts consumed with the pain the revelation of the previous day carried.
I had barely managed to get any sleep, as I spent the whole night tossing and turning in the empty bed, the weight of my reality pressing down on me.
A soft knock came on the door, and I was pulled out from the world of thoughts I was plunged into.
“Alpha Mark,” one of the housekeepers called with a gentle voice, peeking into the room, “Elder Sinclair is here to see you.” She added.
I groaned inwardly as I wasn't in the mood to see anyone, but I nodded as it was my Elder and I didn't have any choice but to honor his visit.
“Tell him I will be out shortly,” I replied with my back still to the door.
Dragging myself out of bed when the housekeeper shut the room door, I went into the bathroom to wash the sleepy, disturbed look off my face and brush my teeth.
The cold water did not do much to wipe off the restless look off my face, after many attempts I decided to let it be and I left the bathroom.
“Good morning, Elder.” I greeted as I stepped into the living room, forcing a smile on my face.
Elder Sinclair looked up from his seat at me, traces of worries and concern running through the length of his face.
“Alpha Mark, how are you feeling this morning? And how did the night treat you?”
I sighed loudly as I sat beside him, “My soul is very much troubled Elder, the injustice that was unleashed on Ava because of Martha's lies… it taunts my soul endlessly.” I complained.
Nodding his head slowly, “Your plight is an understandable one, but you shouldn't blame yourself too much for something you were completely clueless about,” He said.
“But I shouldn't have been too quick to take Martha's words without digging deeper, I should have been more careful and cautious, I should…” I paused and bit my fingers, the pain I felt slowly overwhelming me.
“There is no need for all these things you are saying, Alpha.” Elder Sinclair broke the silence,
“Regretting whatever has happened in the past would not correct it, instead it would only make you frustrated.”
He was right, my regrets were not helping the situation in any way and making me only more frustrated, but still, I didn't know how to let go of it without thinking about it.
After a short while of quietness, I called on one of the housekeepers who was close by to make tea for us.
I was hoping that the warm beverage might ignite some heat in me, and light up my dampen soul.
As we waited, Elder Sinclair continued talking.
“Anyway Alpha, the reason I came here this early to see you, aside from wanting to check up on you, is because of something you mentioned yesterday.” He stated, rubbing his palms together,
“You said that Martha's allegations about Ava being a lie, how do you know about this? Is it that Ava is now with a child or pregnant?”
I hesitated before giving a reply as I thought about how it was best to keep Ava having my children a secret until I had probably won her back into my life.
“No, what I meant Elder is that if Martha lied about Ava cheating on me, then she may have lied about the bareness as well.”
My father's eyes narrowed slightly like he was suspicious about what I had just said.
“I see, I will talk to Martha further about this later,” he went on to say, nodding his head reluctantly.
The tea finally arrived, and we sipped in silence for a few minutes.
After some more small talk about random things going on within the pack and of course, that pack distress over my inability to produce an heir,
“I need to go back in and get ready for work now,” I said, getting up.
“That is fine, have a pleasant day ahead” He wished me before setting down his tea cup on the wooden stool beside where he was seated.
His departure brought back my unsettled feelings, and insights, tiredly.
I hadn't intended to go to work today, I wanted to take the day off and rest my aching head, but staying back home and listening to Martha’s ceaseless pleas when she came around to take the remains of her belongings was less appealing to me.
I sluggishly got dressed for work and left the house.
Arriving at the office, I found myself back to being lost in thoughts, with my productivity zero.
I couldn't stop myself from replaying how Ava was banished from the park, and the event of yesterday, even after Elder Sinclair mentioned that regretting, wouldn't set the wrong things right.
How have I been so blind and clueless to Martha’s manipulation without getting a hint about it all these years?
How could I be so stupid?
Was the top question that burned bright in my heart?
The elder's decision to merely throw her out of the park house and not banish her completely from the park felt like a big slap across my face, compared to Ava’s punishment and what she was made to endure.
Martha deserved everything worse, kicked out of the pack house, banished completely from the pack and if possible, banished from the face of the earth.
She is cruel, her character is likened to a monster, Martha does not deserve to roam around freely after what she has done.
I couldn't just stand the thought that I would get to see Martha, even if it was on an occasional basis after everything.
The idea of it made my blood boil and I hated the fact that we needed her father's support as that is the only thing stopping me from throwing her out.
