Chapter 122
~ Asteria (POV) ~
I can’t believe what I just saw when Damen sifted into two more forms other than his wolf. How could that even happen. He can be a hyena and also a hellhound. My heart filled with strange feelings as I thought what exactly had happened to him. Damen’s men are killing vampires without even getting hurt. I never thought that they would be this powerful. Lowering my head, I looked at the lighting in my hand and soon it disappeared.
Looking at Damen who was already fighting with Kalon, I took a few steps back and walked towards Lora who was laying on the ground lifelessly. My heart pierced and I couldn’t describe the pain inside of me. Who asked her to protect me? Why did she even cover me? They are not killing me, they want me and Kalon will not let anyone kill me. But yet she covered me. Kneeling in front of her, I stared at her as tears rolled down from my eyes.
How am I supposed to bear the pain of losing both her and dad? Why did they just die while saving me? I just couldn’t… my heart was aching and I felt the suffocating feeling against my chest. She just started a new life with David but before everything she had to leave. How am I supposed to tell David that she’s gone and not coming back? It’s impossible.
Caressing her cold face, I watched her face as I remembered the time we spent together. She was just more than a friend to me. She was like a sister and she was just simply the most trusted and closest one to me. It was just so hard to believe that she’s gone. Wiping my tears away, I sighed and slowly got up from the floor. Then I felt someone’s presence behind me. Turning my face, I looked at Logan who was looking at Lora who was lying on the ground.
His eyebrows twitched, he clenched his jaws and soon his eyes filled with tears. Of course they are twins so it’s really painful for him. Moving his eyes, he looked at me with painful eyes before lowering his head in an apologetic way. If he was there, this would never happen. If Damen was there with me this disaster would not happen. I wanted to blame them, but what’s the meaning of blaming them?
If there’s something that will definitely happen, it will always happen no matter what. Ignoring him, I looked at Lora and sighed. I still couldn’t believe the fact that she was gone. Her smile and her voice were still repeating inside of my mind as if she was still standing next to me. I failed to protect her, I failed her by letting her die untimely like this. It was all my fault.
“Help me to take her to the castle” I muttered as I looked at Logan, he looked at me and nodded before bending down and picking up Lora’s body before walking towards the castle. As he walked away, I turned around and looked at every dead body on the ground. So many of them have gone.
There’s no army for Solasta anymore. Every warrior and every general were gone. Am I the only one to survive? Am I the only one who is left alive? My heart tightened seeing my people’s dead bodies. My heart was aching and I didn’t know how to endure this pain. I was such a useless queen, I brought them here to die. Maybe it was all because I didn’t agree with Kalon.
If I agreed to go with him, this would not happen but how come I can be with him while I already have Damen and Demir. I shook my head and lowered as I looked at my feet. Tears rolled down from my eyes, then raising my head, I looked at everyone who was still fighting. Damen’s men are just simply killing vampires as if they were killing machines.
And on the other side, Damen had made Kalon kneel in front of him by damaging Kalon so badly. All I could see was blood and war. It was obvious that we were at the win with the way Damen’s army killed vampires. Watching them for so long, I sighed and waited, I was tired and I fought for so long. It was almost morning and the sun was rising, looking at the way sun rose, I clenched my fists.
“You’ll always be my only beta, Lora. Goodbye. Goodbye for you too, Dad” I muttered looking at the sun. As I said, I couldn’t help but cry remembering the time we spent together. It was just… really, really hard for me to say goodbye to them. Dad was always there for me and he was the one who raised me. Even if he was not my real father, he never let me feel that.
Then I suddenly remembered something which I heard years ago. When dad was talking to Damen’s father, I heard him saying that dad rejected his mate for me. He rejected her because he wanted me as his first priority. He had thought that if he had children with his mate, his mate would mistreat me. Because I was just adopted.
He had just simply sacrificed his happiness for me. He never got a chance to be with his mate, everything because of me and now he had to sacrifice his life. I couldn’t bear this pain... Why am I like this? I just do nothing but make trouble for others. Suddenly, I heard a painful cry and I looked at the direction it came from. My heartbeat increased hearing it and I saw Damen was ripping Kalon’s head. My heart clenched. I immediately ran towards them and looked at Kalon who just turned into his human form as his head separated from the body.
Damen howled with victory as Kalon died. I watched Kalon’s face and saw he was already dead but his eyes were opened and they were staring at me. Seeing his lifeless body, I couldn’t help but remember the first day we met. Even though I was scared at that time, later I wasn’t scared of him at all. He was just there for me those days.
Seeing him, I closed my eyes as I remembered his smile which he returned to me every time we met. Why did he have to become like this? He was just so kind and nice to me. I didn’t know the reason for his sudden change but he was a good guy in the past and I never expected we would face a situation like this. But that doesn’t matter, he caused these deaths. So he had to take the punishment for everything.
He started this war and it was him. So it was just useless for me to think about him like this. He deserved what he got. Taking a deep breath, I looked at his head again before turning to Damen. Seeing that he was about to shift, I picked up the long coat he was wearing earlier. Then I walked towards him and placed the coat on his wolf’s shoulders as he looked at me and wiggled his tail before shifting back.
As soon as he shifted back, he pulled me to a hug. Hugging me against his chest so tightly, I felt him kissing my head. I couldn’t hold my tears as I felt him against my body. It’s been so long since I felt his warmth. I missed him, I just missed him so much. Burying my face against his chest, I sobbed as all the pain in my heart surged into me into a great pain.
“Why did you come so late..?” I muttered breaking the hug, he lowered his head and looked at me with a small smile on his face. Then he wiped the tears on my face and clenched his jaws looking at me. Seeing his handsome face, I bit my lower lip so hard. I really missed him. It’s been a month since I last saw him.
“I’m sorry Asteria…” he said looking at me. Nodding at him, I turned and looked at everyone, there was no war anymore. They have just successfully wiped off every vampire. Letting out a deep sigh, I again looked up at Damen.
“Where’s Demir? You left him alone?” I asked him. Then he shook his head and kissed my forehead with a little smile on his face which made my heartbeat increase.
“He’s with Logan’s mate”
