Chapter 89 Give In

Chapter 89 Give In
\[Raelyn’s POV\]
I watch Becky storm away, disappearing right before my eyes, and the urge to chase after her hits me, but before I can even move, Osiris’ hand comes to rest on my shoulder.
“Let her go,” he says as though he can read my thoughts. “She’s an adult and can do what she wants.”
For a moment, I don’t speak as I continue to stare in the direction that Becky disappeared in.
“Yeah,” I say slowly, though everything in me screams to chase. “You’re right.”
Maybe right now what Becky needed was time alone to process what she learned. I know if I were in her shoes, that is what I would want, but even then I can’t stop the worry I feel.
Where would she go?
Would she be safe wherever it was?
Would Daniel come looking for her?
“I’ve got someone trailing her.” Adeline offers, making me wonder if everyone in the room was a damn esper. “They will make sure that nothing happens.”
“Thanks,” I say quietly. “I really owe you one.”
“You do.” She agrees, smiling.
“You don’t,” Osiris counters, shooting Adeline a glare. “It isn’t like she asked you to do such things, and honestly, if you ask me, it is a waste of time.”
Flinching, I try to ignore the hatred in Osiris’ voice as I remind myself that he only knew the bad parts of Becky, not the good ones that I knew from the past.
“Why was she even here anyway?” He pushes. “Do you know how dangerous that was?”
“I don’t think it was dangerous at all.” Adeline counters. “Don’t you agree, Raelyn?”
“Yeah,” I respond as Osiris gives me a look. “She’s just confused.”
Confused. Misguided. Filled with a darkness that I was partly responsible for. Maybe it was because of that that I wanted to keep her close until she managed to break free of the shackles of the past.
‘Would that ever actually happen?’ Talula asks. ‘She’s too lost in those emotions.’
‘Maybe,’ I agree. ‘But I can hope that she manages to break free and start over new.’
Even if Becky did something awful and said some horrible things, she still had a good heart. And like me, she went through a lot growing up, and that alone made it harder for her to trust and let go.
“Confused or not,” Osiris huffs, drawing me out of my head. “If she so much as lays a finger on you, I’ll fucking kill her without thinking twice.”
Eyes widening, I take the man beside me in, searching for some sign that he wasn’t serious, but all I find is promise.
“You won’t have to do that.” I tell him. “I can handle things myself.”
“I don’t doubt it.”
Instantly, I feel a wave of shock rush through me as I realize that this is maybe the first time that Osiris has acknowledged my strength.
“What?” He asks. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You surprised her.” Adeline giggles. “Man, her expressions are great, and as much as I’m enjoying watching, isn’t it time for you lovebirds to head out?”
Nodding, Osiris slides his hand down my arm and then wraps it around my hand.
“You’re right,” he says, giving my hand a squeeze and making my heart skip a beat from the thrum of energy I feel rush through me. “Thank you for taking care of Raelyn, but next time you kidnap her, don’t you dare bring someone dangerous around.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Adeline sighs, waving her hand. “Got it.”
Clearly not satisfied with her response, Osiris lets out a huff of annoyance before he leads me away, out the door of the condo, down the hall, and then into the elevator, where we are finally alone.
“Did anyone do something?” He asks.
“What?”
“I asked if they did anything that you didn’t like,” he pushes. “Aside from bringing that woman around.”
“I wasn’t opposed to that.” I point out.
On the contrary, I thought it was a good thing that Becky and I got the opportunity to talk and air things out.
I wasn’t sure if it would fix things, and I by no means expected us to become friends again, but it was one less burden on both of us.
“You’re too nice.” Osiris shrugs as the elevator doors open.
Not bothering to respond, I allow myself to be led to the car, and once inside, I get comfortable while waiting for him to go around to the driver’s seat, but he doesn’t; instead, he climbs into the back with me.
“What are you doing?” I ask, but don’t say anything more as Reg appears, and I remember that he has been with me this whole time. “Oh.”
“What?” Osiris asks in amusement. “Were you expecting me to be your chauffeur?”
“Of course not.” I huff.
Although he was the one who usually drove when it was just the two of us, so this was a bit different. But I guess it was to be expected since I was certain this was his usual form of transportation.
“Just put up with it for a bit,” Osiris sighs, and I shoot him a look. “What?” He asks, raising a brow. “Why do you look so offended by what I’ve said? Aren’t you the one who always gets skittish when I get too close?”
Well, yeah. I was super cautious around this man, but it wasn’t because I disliked him. Well, it was at first, but with the passing time I was feeling more and more drawn to him, and any time he did get too close I found myself reacting to him in a way that was so damn unnerving.
I was falling for him, and I couldn’t deny it anymore, but could I admit it?
At this thought, I examine the man beside me. Taking him in from his handsome face that is filled with arrogance to his large, muscular body that exudes pride and power.
Everything about him screamed "leader," and that was the most unnerving part about this.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” He asks, his voice low and dangerous. “It feels like you’re mind-fucking me.”
“Maybe,” I admit, licking my lips. “Even I don’t quite understand why I’m like this, but I don’t really want to fight it anymore.”
