Chapter 88 Inferiority

Chapter 88 Inferiority
\[Becky’s POV\]
Bullshit.
Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.
Everything that bitch Raelyn was saying was bullshit.
Did she think that I was stupid? Did she honestly think if she played the victim I would believe her and take her side?
If she thought that she was full of shit and yet…
“So am I.” I hiss, storming into the living room where Adeline and Jean sit.
As I move, their eyes come to rest on me, and I can see a silent question in their orbs that stay locked on me.
“What?” I demand, heading toward the room's exit. “What do you want?”
“Have a good talk?” Adeline asks. “Or have you two still not hashed things out?”
Hashed things out. Did she really think that a simple talk would fix what happened between Raelyn and me?
After all the years of hatred and planning and waiting I endured. How could her telling me what she did fix anything?
It wouldn’t, and yet… I wanted it to fix things. I wanted to believe her somewhere deep down inside of me.
“Dammit.” I growl, not wanting to feel like I was. “I’m leaving.”
“And where are you going?” Adeline asks, getting up just as a knock sounds at the door. “Oh, looks like the warden has arrived.”
Warden?
Who the hell was she referring to?
As this question appears in my mind, she heads to the door, and when she opens it, I see Osiris standing there.
Of course. I think silently, hating Raelyn even more.
“You’re really annoying,” Adeline sighs, stepping aside so Osiris can enter. “I wanted to have her sleepover.”
“Not happening.” Osiris says before his gaze shifts to me and his expression darkens. “Why the hell are you here?”
Instantly, I feel my guard going up, and I cross my arms.
“What?” I demand. “Am I not allowed to be here?”
“After what you pulled,” Osiris says slowly, his voice cold. “No.”
His words are like a knife stabbing deep into me, intentionally hurting me, along with the hatred that he isn’t bothering to hide.
“Adeline,” he continues, turning his gaze to the woman who watches on sheepishly. “What the hell have you been up to?”
“Well,” she begins, looking from Osiris to me. “You see, when we were out shopping and doing girlie things, we ran into this lady being harassed on the street. Of course, I was going to overlook it, but then Raelyn rushed to her aid, and I was forced to intervene.”
“Raelyn did what?” Osiris hisses, beginning to move in the direction of the room that Raelyn still remains in. “What do you mean she intervened? Is she alright?”
As he speaks, I feel something in me beginning to slowly open. It’s this hollow pit that I always tried desperately to ignore, but with the scene in front of me, it is hard.
It is clear from the way Osiris is acting that he genuinely cares about Raelyn’s well-being, and I can’t stop myself from wishing that someone cared about me like that.
“She’s fine.” Adeline sighs.
“I’ll determine that when I see her.” Osiris counters. “If there is so much as a hair missing on her head, I’ll…”
“She’s fine.” I repeat, drawing Adeline and Osiris’ gazes to me. “You’re worrying too much about someone who doesn’t deserve it.”
“What?” Osiris growls, narrowing his gaze on me. “What the fuck did you just say?”
“Now, now,” Adeline says, trying to disperse the tension that has begun to surround us. “I think it’s best if the two of you took a deep breath.”
“No,” I say, unable to stop myself. “I think it’s best that he knows the type of woman that he got himself involved with.”
Since Daniel and his father weren’t around to force me to stop this time, I could say everything I wanted to. I would be damned if I would allow Raelyn to live so happily while I was suffering. If I was going down, I was going to drag her down with me.
“I don’t know what she did to get you to show interest in her, but you should probably rethink it.” I continue as the woman in question appears with a look of shock and unease on her face. “She,” I continue, pointing at her. “Is a lying, cheating, whore who will do whatever it takes to get somewhere.”
Go on then. I think, turning my gaze to Raelyn. Try to play innocent when you know that I’m right.
First it was Stephen, and then Daniel. Now it was Osiris, the most powerful alpha in the world aside from the alpha of Emerald Moon. It was pretty fucking clear that she carefully chose her men.
“She uses men to gain power since she is a fatherless bastard.”
“Becky,” Adeline gasps. “What are you…”
“I’m just helping.” I tell her. “Since he seems to be wrapped around her finger, he should know these things. He has a reputation to uphold, and if he continues to keep her by his side, then that reputation is going to be ruined.”
Fuck this.
Fuck everything about this damned situation. Since I already hit rock bottom, I was going to say everything I wanted.
“Are you saying that I’m not good enough to uphold my reputation?”
Osiris’ voice is low, careful, and filled with warning as he speaks, and I feel a shiver rush through me.
“Do you really think that the person I choose to be beside me will ruin things that I’ve worked hard to achieve?”
“That…” I begin but stop as he continues to glare at me. “You know as well as I do that the minute your family and pack find out about her, they will do everything to split the two of you up.”
“That may be,” Osiris agrees. “But do you really think that I am incapable of handling things? With the way you speak, it is almost as though you think that I’m incompetent.”
Shit.
What the hell was happening? How could he speak so easily about the situation that he was in? Didn’t he realize how dangerous his relationship with Raelyn was?
“I think you should properly consider your words before you speak nonsense.” He says now, moving to Raelyn’s side. “And you should worry about yourself before you go around worrying about others’ situations. Now,” he continues, giving Raelyn a look that makes my heart squeeze and the hole inside me widen. “Are you ready to go home?”
For a moment, Raelyn doesn't speak as she looks from Osiris to me and back. It's like she is silently asking me if I want her to leave, and when I tear my gaze from hers and focus on the wall beside me, she concedes.
"Yeah," she says, ending everything. "Let's go home."
Her response is the final blow that I'm able to take before I turn and storm away from everyone and everything. I don't know where I'm going or where I will end up, but I can't remain in that place where everyone was caring so damn much about Raelyn. It was just too much to bear, and it made me feel so damn inferior.
Right. I think, stopping when I reach the street. That's what this damned hollow feeling is, it's inferiority.
How was it possible that someone who grew up with absolutely nothing could have so much while someone who grew up with everything could have nothing?
It wasn't fair, and it pissed me off, but no matter what I felt, it wouldn't change a damn thing.
