Chapter 49 Personal escort
Lyra's POV
I sat tiredly on my bed, reflecting on what happened earlier.
Thankfully, my mom came on time to help me; if not, the prince would have done something to me.
He got angry immediately I told her I was going to choose Elias over him. He got mad and nearly pounced on me; thankfully, my mom came just in time to rescue me.
He was shocked when he saw my mom; he wasn't scared, but just didn't expect her to intervene in his bullying of me.
My mom got angry and threatened to tell the alpha. She told him that no matter what happens, he shouldn't dare lay a finger on me. Then she reminded him that the alpha had already warned him never to touch me.
He nearly insulted my mom, but for some reason, he didn't. Instead, he vented at her, saying he would never accept her as his mother no matter what happens.
I expected my mom to actually beg him, but then she turned and cursed him even more. She told him that no woman would want to have a son like him and that it would actually be better if he didn't accept her because she didn't want a son like him.
He was pained—so pained that he left angry. It was then my mom's maid helped me in.
Mom asked about the maid assigned to me, and I told her I hadn't seen them since we left the dinner hall. She got angry and ordered a guard to bring them in.
They were brought in, and it was then I realized they had gone back to their old duties. They said it was better for them to serve in the washing room than to serve as maids to me.
Mom didn't hesitate to tell the guards to inform the alpha about it. They pleaded with my mom and swore never to disobey me again, but I no longer needed them. In short, it would be better if they were even sent away.
The alpha ordered that they both be punished for disobeying his orders. He commanded the guard to give them 20 strokes each and then sent them out of the palace. They pleaded and pleaded to the point that I became emotional. But my mom told me not to let their tears get to me. She made it clear that keeping them around would only put me in more danger and that it was better if I let them go.
I was still thinking when I fell asleep. I woke up, and it was already morning.
I was shocked to see Enna seated beside me on the bed, with a tray of food beside her.
I quickly got up and hugged her, nearly spilling the food in the process.
She stood up and carried the tray to the table before she joined me back on the bed.
"How have you been? Are you okay now? I was planning to come see you this morning. But here you are. It's like you were thinking what I was thinking," I gushed happily, hugging her again.
"Yeah.. I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking of you. I was worried you might forget me. I thought you wouldn't say a word to me, like the other maids said. They said you wouldn't talk to me ever again because I'm no longer in your class. I was worried and pained; I cried all night because I thought what they said was true. Until your mom sent for me this morning. She said I could stay with you as your personal escort. I'm so happy, Lyra. I'm happy no one is going to bully you again. I'm happy your mom finally stood up for you. I'm so happy for you!" She laughed loudly, wrapping her arms around me tightly, so hard that I couldn't breathe, but I wasn't complaining. I had missed this so much.
After some time, we disengaged from the hug, and I took the opportunity to ask her questions.
"How have you been? How is your injury?" I asked, and she smiled.
"I'm fine. I wasn't even worried about my injuries. I was worried when I heard the maids say the alpha ordered them to punish you." She pouted, blinking her eyelids repeatedly.
"I was scared too. I thought I might not see you again until Elias showed up. If it weren't for him, I don't know what would have happened to me. But it's fine now. At least no one gets to bully us again," she smiled and hugged me again.
"Yeah, no one will bully us. Not even Seraphina; the alpha has banned her from coming to the castle. So we are free. No one is going to pick on us again... not even the pri..." I quickly covered her mouth before she could finish her statement. I realized I should have told her immediately when I woke up that his room was opposite mine; otherwise, it might just land us in more trouble.
