Chapter 46 Annoying old guy
I stopped and turned back to look at him. I was pissed he still dared to follow me even after the alpha had warned him to mind his business. I was now convinced that he wanted something else; I wasn't wrong when I said he was helping not out of pity, but for some other reason.
"Is there anything the matter?" I quickly asked. I was alone with him. Since I didn't come with a maid (the ones who escorted us here earlier, we were both Mom's maids), I was supposed to go back with Mom. But she was horridly worried after the alpha left me to face the old guy, who took an interest in asking questions that weren't his concern.
"Not really... it's just that I have a few questions to ask you," he said, smiling—the same fake smile he had back in the dining hall. He wanted something else, and it was way too obvious in his eyes.
"I would have loved to stand and listen to what you have to ask, but I'm rushing off to somewhere. I mean, I need to use the ladies' room..." I lied, hoping he would give up. But that didn't stop him.
"I know you are in a hurry to use the ladies' room, but you also have to consider the fact that what I have to say is important. You can't just continue ignoring me all the time." He was beginning to make me look like the bad guy.
"Whatever you have to say to me can wait. There's always tomorrow, you know. Maybe you can just tell me about it tomorrow. For now, I need to leave." I tried walking away, but his next statement forced me to halt in my spot.
"You told the alpha you haven't found your mate. No matter how hard I try, it still seems like a lie. It's not like I'm doubting you, but I feel like you are hiding something from everyone. Do you mind sharing it with me?" he asked.
He was indirectly doing it to piss me off, and my patience was running low. What business did he have about my mate? He should be worried about his family issues, not mine.
His behavior was becoming disturbing, and I might just report him to the alpha if he didn't stop following me around.
"What do you mean? Whatever happens is none of your business. I thought the alpha had told you to let me be. It's not like I'm your daughter or something; you don't have to worry about me," I said, trying really hard to stay calm.
"You know you are in this position because of me. Yeah, I was the reason why you were made a princess. So it would take me nothing to get you back to being a maid because that's actually where you belong!" he blurted. I should have known that was where he was heading.
"So you actually stopped me to tell me this? Tell me how you would feel if someone started following your daughter around just to ask about her mate? My mate is mine to worry about, not yours. Stop trying to get on my nerves," I replied.
"I should have known you are just as ungrateful as your mom. You've been made a princess for just a day, and this is how you talk to me? I only asked a question, and you are already throwing insults at me. I should have just kept quiet and let them kill you," he added angrily.
I was about to reply when a voice from behind interrupted.
"You know you don't always have to embarrass yourself, Pascal. I thought I already told you to stop asking her such questions. She's not your daughter to begin with, so literally you have no right whatsoever to ask her such questions. I know you wouldn't just let it slide, so I decided to come back. And just like I had predicted, you failed." It was the alpha; thank God he came back.
"I'm sorry, alpha. I'm only asking because I care about her. I'm sorry if you misunderstood the situation," he defended.
"I already told you she's not yours to worry about! She's not your daughter, for crying out loud. If you continue following her around, then I will have to conclude otherwise," the alpha told him.
Then he turned to look at me.
"I'm so sorry, Lyra. It feels like he's making being a princess so troublesome and uncomfortable. You don't have to mind what he does. I want him to know for sure you wouldn't repeat it. Don't take what he said to heart. I didn't make you a princess because of him; I made you one because I choose to. Whatever he said was trash," the alpha assured, patting my shoulder.
"Thank you, alpha," I murmured.
"It's okay. You may go back to your chamber." I didn't hesitate; I just turned and stormed out, ignoring the old man's glare.
