Chapter 19 A new friend

Chapter 19 A new friend
Lyra's POV.

“Tell me!” Gina snapped, letting go of my chin roughly.

“Someone helped you, didn't they?” She said, her eyes getting filled with hatred.

I almost breathed out in relief. For a moment, I thought she had been reported to by anyone who could have seen me with lord Elias.

“I did it alone, ma'am” I lied. “I just happened to know how it's done since I was born and bred in the streets”

“Right. A low omega” Gina said.

I knew something like that would make her believe me.

“I have another task for you,” she said. She signalled to the ladies behind her. They stepped forward and handed me some piles of cloth.

They didn't hand them over to me, they pushed them into me.

“Those are Lady Seraphina's personal clothes. She wants you to wash them” she said.

Laundry again?

“Wait” I was forced to say. “You said she needed to spread clothes, so what is this?”

Gina strained her ears like she had not heard me right just now.

“What the fucking hell did I just hear you say?” She asked.

I said nothing and only kept my mouth shut like it had suddenly gotten taped.

“She just complained, ma’am” one of the two ladies at her back answered for me.

Gina scoffed. “Listen, whether she wants to iron clothes, fold them, wash them or spread them” she paused.

“It should have nothing to do with you. You should just do what you are asked without complaint!” She snapped.

“Yes, I understand, ma'am,” I said.

I moved away and headed to the river after getting the things I needed to wash.

At the river, there was one of the maids sitting at the edge, washing clothes.

I settled beside her and didn't turn to talk to her and just settled to do what I had come there to do.

“You are Lyra, aren't you?” The girl’s calm voice said.

I turned to look at her and she was someone I recognized. I usually see her around the kitchen and around the main mansion.

She’s quite similar to me as she’s mostly alone and when she walks in groups, she doesn't talk to them, I noticed that much about her.

“yes” I gave a simple reply and only turned back to the clothes I was washing.

“I'm Enna,” she said.

I faced her but didn't reply to her. I've spent years working in the alpha’s estate but I've never for once tried to make friends.

And that seems like what she's trying to do at the moment.

“Nice knowing you” I forced myself to say but still didn't give her the attention I felt like she wanted.

“Ive been seeing you with lord Elias lately” she said. She must be one of the gossipers too and here she's trying to bully me because of that?

I didn't turn to get or respond to her words, I just kept slamming the stick on the cloth, pushing it into the river, getting it soaked and washing.

“I saw him when he was also connecting lines with you earlier” she said.

That made me turn to her. I had lied to Gina that I did it alone because I thought no one saw me. What if this girl hates me? What I'd she goes to tell Gina that she saw lord Elias helping me?

I expected her next words to be something close to that, but no.

“You should be careful” she said and her words got me squinting my gaze.

“If people are always seeing you together then they'd get the wrong idea and that would only put you in trouble” she said.

“Everyone already knows that lady Seraphina doesn't like you and earlier today, they were talking about you being the Luna daughter”

I don't care what's true or false, rumors go around a lot afterall” she continued.

But before she could resume talking, I chirped in. “It's true. The Luna is my mother”

She turned her face to me but she didn't look surprised..I also didn't know the reason why I felt like clearing her confused state.

She nodded her head. “You have to be careful around lord Kael too then” she said.

“I could tell he also don't like you”

“Yes, he doesn't” I laughed softly. “Because I actually disrespected him before I knew who he was”

She laughed, wanting to hear the details. “Then, does that mean you have a sharp mouth?”

I nodded with a laugh.

She laughed again. “Then why don't you talk back to the maids who disrespect you?” she was leaving the clothes she was washing to hear what I had to say.

“Oh!” She exclaimed again before I responded. “You don't want to grab too much of attention”

I smiled. She asked the question and gave the answer herself.

“Do you want to hear what I did to the alpha?” I asked.

She sat down more comfortably and I started the narration, telling her about the bar incident and what happened the next day though I didn't tell her about the fact that we found out we are mates.

That should remain a secret even if lord Kael hadn't told me to keep it as one.

She was surprised and started looking pitiful for me because she knew Kael wouldn't forgive me so easily.

“Here, let's wash together,” she said.

I nodded and we put the clothes we had been given together and washed it together.

Enna splashed water on me and I gasped. “Oh my! I'm sorry, that was intentional” she said but the smile on her face said otherwise.

I stared at her with a squinted gaze and it took me quite a while before I realized that she wanted to play.

I splashed water on her like she had done to me and we kept doing that to each other while laughing so heartily.

And like that, I found a friend for the first time in thirteen years since I've started living here.
