Chapter 14 I can't swime
Lyra's POV.
I was crouched down on the floor but a voice jolted me back up.
“Do you need some help here?” The person asked.
When I looked up at him, I saw that it's lord Elias.
I quickly stood up from the floor and moved to take the white clothes off the table then start clearing everything.
“No, thank you,” I replied.
Seraphina wanted me to do it alone and besides, it wasn't right for someone like him to be seen helping me do stuff like this.
I ignored his presence and started cleaning but soon realized that he had joined me in cleaning.
I let go of the white clothes in my hand and moved to him, holding him by the hand to prevent him from working any further.
“Please stop!” I snapped at him and I didn't know why I was getting angry when he was only trying to help.
He lifted his eyes to look at me and I could see the surprised look on his face.
I didn't let him speak first but did that instead.
“What would the rest of the maids say to you if they saw you helping me?” I said, voice raised and shaky. “You'd only put me in a difficult situation”
“Besides, Lady Seraphina wants me to do this alone,” I added.
“And that's why I'm helping” he took a deep breath. “I know Seraphina wouldn't let it slide after someone like you touched Kael”
His words took a few seconds before it sank deep into my head. Someone like me.
It made me scoff. He was no different from the likes of them, the people who think Omegas are nothing and are not supposed to be treated as human.
I must have been mistaken when I called him a good person earlier.
He saw the look on my face and tried to move close to me but I took a step backwards, halting his movement.
“That's not what I mean, I….” I didn't let him finish as I interrupted his words.
“Thanks for wanting to help, sir” I smiled. “But I'll do this alone and will like you to respect that”
With that, I stormed away with the white clothes, taking them into the laundry room.
When I got back to the training ground, he was no longer in sight and that made me breathe out in relief.
I cleaned the place, clearing out the dirt and returning it back to its normal state.
It took hours but I was finally able to finish. When I was done, I breathed out in relief.
It was so dark already and I stretched my arms, knowing I should go take a shower and end up in my bed already.
I moved towards the maid's quarter but I was shocked to see Seraphina standing in front of the gates to the maid quarters with her two escorts behind her.
I bowed slightly and swallowed hard, getting nervous already.
Why was she here again?
“So, you were coming back to this wretched quarters without informing me that you are done with what I asked of you?” She said,
She said asked. She didn't ask me anything, she gave a command I wouldn't dare refuse.
“I'm sorry, my lady. Please forgive my manners” I begged, still lowering my head.
She smirked amusingly. “I won't be forgiving your manners, you should learn through punishments not to make other mistakes”
My eyes widened. It was probably nine in the evening already. Does she still have things for me to do? Just because she wants to punish me?
“I heard you took the white cover clothes to the laundry room” she said. “Go get them and wash them”
My eyes widened in disbelief. “My lady….” I called in a low tone.
“It's late already, I can't get water from the river this late at night. It will be hard to see” I complained.
She moved closer to me with her eyes darkened. “Don't take water from the river. Take the clothes to the river to wash them”
I blinked and my throat tightened but I couldn't bring myself to say a word.
“Have everything washed tonight and before breakfast tomorrow morning, I want to see them dried and folded” she said.
It looked like the look of surprise dried from my face because I could only stare at her and say nothing.
She walked past me, intentionally bumping into me and making me fall to the ground.
I couldn't complain, the tasks she had given me were maid's duties though they weren't in my division.
Some maids passed by after she left and they looked at me as I sat on the floor dejectedly, their eyes filled with pity and amusement.
“Poor her,” one muttered. “I wondered how she got on Seraphina's nerves”
“She won't last long. She'll place her quit letter in front of Gina soon”
I laughed softly at those words, if only they knew my mother signed me out like a no refund deal when she made me work here.
I can't quit, unless I'm sent away by the alpha or his son.
I picked myself up from the floor and headed to the laundry room, packed the white clothes like Seraphina had wanted, took the stick and the detergent I'd be washing the clothes with, then walked to the river to wash them.
It was a fifteen minutes walk from the laundry room and when I got there, I laid the clothes on the hilly ground, then sat down for a while, hugging my legs to myself and taking deep breaths.
The water which had been still and quiet since I got here suddenly made sounds, waves appearing on the top of the water.
It made me blink as my heart started beating fast. It was starting to look like there was something in that water.
I shouldn't move there but I stood up and moved closer to the water, wanting to check what was there.
Suddenly, someone appeared from underwater, startling me.
A shrill scream escaped my lips and that made me lose my balance and I fell into the water.
Oh, damn! I don't know how to swim.
