Chapter 11 Alpha vs beta
Lyra's POV
I wished lord Kael hadn't shown up earlier. Maybe then the guy named Elias would have helped me with the crates a little bit more and maybe my mood wouldn't have become so sour after what he said to me.
Hell? Does that mean he'd continue to have sex with another woman when we haven't broken our bond?
The whole house was booming with servants making preparations for something but I was lost.
There was no event, not one anyone told me about. I was still roaming about downstairs, staring from left to right and watched as people got busy with chairs and tables, especially kitchen stuff.
Was there some special event that I had been excluded from? Because I was an outcast?
While I walked aimlessly, Gina appeared in front of me from downstairs.
“Hey, you” she called.
She knows my name but I don't know why anyone would find happiness in calling one a name they aren't comfortable with.
Still, I answered. I looked up at her and bowed my head slightly.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“Nothing ma'am” I replied slowly.
She cursed under her breath and moved closer to me.
“What on earth can you do well in your entire life?” She scoffed. “You see everyone making preparations for something and you do what? You stand?”
She was scolding me at the moment and I dared not utter a word if I didn't want to get punished.
I only muttered the few words I've gotten so excellently perfect to speak. “I'm sorry, ma'am”
She dragged in a deep breath with her hand placed on her head. Then she brought her gaze to me.
“Get to the kitchen” she paused. “Help them serve the dishes outside”
“What's happening outside? Is there an event going on?” I asked.
She gnashed her teeth and faced me with her eyes filled with venom.
“Don't question me! Just do as I have said” she said.
She didn't wait for a response before she stormed away and I bowed slightly as she exited.
I went to the kitchen like she had instructed and the cooks were inside, making dishes and adding coals after coal into the fire.
“Hello” I bowed slightly to grab their attention. “The headmaid had asked me to serve the dishes outside”
They all turned to look at me and they took their gaze away immediately. After then, they acted like I was invincible and only focused on the meal they were making.
Gina was a pain in the neck. She probably knew the meal was not done yet but she asked me to come get it outside.
I had to wait for minutes which I didn't count but was so sure was close to an hour.
“Get this to the Alpha's table for him and his Luna” one of the cooks handed a tray of food to me and I placed it on the cart they had gotten ready.
“For the alpha heir and his friend, lord Elias” she handed another tray and I took note of the meals on the trays so it didn't get mixed up.
So the alpha heir and lord Elias are friends. I thought as much when he took his sword from me and rushed after him. I could tell from the way they walked together that they weren't just people who treated each other based on their positions.
When the meals had all been handed over to me and I had carefully placed them in the cart, another cook handed smoothies and drinks including water which I also placed in the cart too.
I wheeled the cart outside and didn't need to ask anyone before I knew where something was taking place.
Everyone was talking about it and I realized it was a duel show on the training grounds.
After a ten minute walk of being careful as I wheeled the cart, I got to the training grounds.
It was filled with people, not too much, but everyone was seated in front of tables except guards which I knew were the fighters that were having the duel.
I served the meal, placing the Alpha's meal in front of him and my Mom too. But I made sure not to look into her eyes as I did the serving though I could see from the corner of my eyes that she's staring intently at me.
Seraphina was also seated on the same table as the alpha and I served her meal too.
She didn't look like she took interest in me or even checked who was serving her meal.
I added the drinks and moved over to the council since their seats were the next lower one after the Alpha's.
I served their meal and did the same with everyone present, then I had lord Kael and lord Elias's meal sitting on the trays.
I had my eyes looking out for them but couldn't see them. A cheer which erupted in the people's mouth made me turn to the stage and I saw them.
Elias and Kael.
They were just entering the stage, walking around with their gazes fixed on each other.
They both had swords in their hands, lord Elias twirling his sword in his hand while lord Kael had his own tightened in his hand.
My gaze darted from them to the meal I had been ordered to serve them.
My face turned into concern. The food will get cold. The ice in the drinks will melt.
I should return the meal to the kitchen since I didn't know how long the fight would take, but I wanted to watch.
A part of me felt like staying and watching the duel while another knew I would regret it if I did that.
Nevertheless, I casted the cart to the side and leaned on it as I decided to enjoy the moment even if it meant suffering later.
The sound of a drumroll was heard. Once, twice, thrice.
And then the fight begins.
