Chapter 43

Chapter 43
"Holy Goddess! Why didn't you tell her?" Logan cried. This was the most complicated love story in the entire history of werewolves. The story of the sister that fell in love with her brother!
"It is none of your business, okay? Just stay out of this!" Adam muttered, resuming his work of rubbing Laila's cold hands with his warm ones.
Logan tried to keep his mouth shut but he just couldn't. Laila was developing feelings for her brother. She was thinking they were mates and they were related.
Shit!
How was it even possible?
No one knew that Adam and Laila were elated somehow. Even the council seemed not to know because if they did they wouldn't have sent him after her. Logan finally understood why Adam hadn't handed Laila to the council. It all made sense now. Who would release their sister to those vicious people, even if that sister was the one said to destroy the world?
Adam stared at Laila's body again and noticed she was returning to her normal warmth but slowly.
Her powers were starting to exhibit themselves but she needed to slow things down. He couldn't afford to have her passing out like this in the middle of a fight. He wouldn't be able to protect her.
Logan noticed the way Adam was looking at Laila and he smiled. They were truly related. Now that he looked closely, he saw that they had the same hair color. Their eyes were also the same and their jawlines had the same curve to them. Adam had a dimple to his cheek when he was in thought, Laila also had dimples on both cheeks when she smiled. If Adam allowed his hair to grow as long as Laila's one could pass them for twins.
How come no one noticed the resemblance when they had them? — Logan asked himself but then looking at them he got his answer. They had blindfolded them with sacks. Their features were hidden that was why no one saw the resemblance.
The smell of her arousal filled the air again and Logan closed his eyes, taking deep breaths to allow it to pass. It was a simple trick to do. As alluring as her scent was, all a male had to do was not linger onto it. If you did, you would become addicted and commit a crime that would end badly when the real male finally showed up.
Adam looked at Logan and sighed. "As much as I don't trust you, I have to let you live," He said
Logan didn't know if he should thank him, or just go on staying mute. Everyone knew that Adam Myers never trusted anybody. Everyone was a threat to him. The only difference was the level of threat but in the end, every threat had to be eliminated.
Silence filled the cave again as Adam continued studying his sister. She should have been able to control her powers by now yet somehow, something seemed to be missing. Their father always talked about a catalyst, which they all thought was Adam, but they had been wrong. The catalyst seemed to be her mate.
For males, the mate pull got activated a few days after the two parties meet each other. She had been having this heat period a few days ago. Could it be that her mate was Logan? — Adam wondered. He would have to do something for her to be on her feet again and fast.
"I think this heat thing is affecting her growth," Adam muttered after a while. Logan looked at him wondering where he was heading to.
"What do you mean?" Logan asked.
Adam sighed again before speaking. "Her powers are not at the highest level yet, that's why she has grown this weak."
"Oh," Logan stated, nodding his head in understanding. This wasn't a lot of good news. He needed her to be in her hundred percent so they could defeat Dearkson once and for all. "When would she be at the highest level?" Logan asked him.
"Do you feel any pull towards her?" He asked Logan and the latter choked on his saliva.
"What?" He squeaked. His eyes almost fell out of their place. This was not what he asked him,  what was he asking him? — Logan panicked.
"I mean is she your mate?" Adam explained getting pissed off. Logan seemed like such a smart guy before and then all of a sudden he was acting stupid, it vexed Adam. "I should have killed him!"  He muttered under his breath but Logan heard him.
"She is not my mate. I heard you the first time, I was just shocked that you would ask me such a question. I asked you first to remember, then I thought it was you who was her mate. Now that I know that you are her broth-"
"Shut up!" Adam snapped and Logan bit his tongue. "Quite saying it so loud, I don't want her to know yet. It might affect her mission."

Logan nodded like he understood, even though he didn't understand a thing. Why wouldn't he want her to know he was her brother? That was absurd! What sort of family are they? The father was a mutt, the sister is supposed to be the queen wolf and the brother is a psychopathic assassin!
"Will you help her end this heat or what?" Adam said. Even in the dim light of the sticks, Logan could still see Adam's left eye twitch. Adam wasn't comfortable with the request but he was ready to do it to make his sister better.
"As much as I am flattered. I don't want to be killed by her real mate. You know what happens to men that sleep with other people's mates in heat," Logan explained as calmly as possible, hoping he would understand. At least Adam didn't spend his childhood in a basement like Laila, or did he?
Logan swallowed his questions, he didn't want to anger Adam because he knew the guy had the worst of reactions. Logan valued his head.
"But how do we end this? Look I will protect you myself if I have to but you need to do this!" Adam snapped getting even more impatient.
"Protect me? She is a queen wolf, what do you think her wolf would do to me when she finds out? " Logan said. "I do not want to die and as much as I don't trust you either, I wouldn't want you to die for her sake!" Logan said, throwing him back his line.
"What would you have me do then? I can't just sit back and watch her suffer like this!" Adam groaned. His voice was filled with so much sadness, Logan felt bad for him.
"I don't know men but the only solution I see is for us to look for her mate..." Logan suggested.
Adam stared up at him again. "How are we going to do that? There is no time to do a hide and seek. The council is coming. Laila is in danger. What if they send spirit wolves, what would I do then?"
"It's the only way," Logan repeated. He didn't see any other way aside from that.
"Can't you just fucking sleep with her?" Adam snapped holding his head in pain.
"You know that won't work. It would only anger her wolf and you have seen what it can do when it's angry. You saw what it did to some of my men..." Logan said referring to the incident that happened back at their safe house when Laila had slaughtered more than tenable soldiers. Back then they had thought it was Adam or someone else but now he knew for certain that it was Laila.
"Fuck!" Adam cursed. He was running out of ideas and he didn't know what else to do.
"The only solution is to find her mate," Logan suggested again.
"But how do we even know her mate? How do I start tracing the people she has met in the last couple of weeks or days?" Adam cried out, clicking his tongue in frustration.
"She has been with you, for the most part, I am sure if you think hard enough you can zero it down to a couple of dudes," Logan shrugged. "For starters, we already know it's neither of us."
"She has been with too many people!" Adam snapped pulling at his hair.
"You will have to calm down and think about it properly. I can't help you if you keep snapping out like this," Logan told him.
"Shit!" Logan cursed.
The room fell silent as he tried to think of the people she might have met before her heat period started. When they had left southern California, she didn't even have time to pack her cliches, they left immediately. And she was fine throughout their long drive. Then they had gotten to the hotel and Adam had made sure no one saw her. Anyone who came too close got killed. The only time people got close to her was when Damon and his pack soldiers captured them. Her mate was either in that pile or he had killed them already.
"Fuck!" He cursed out again.
"Any ideas?" Logan asked him.
"I think I have killed her mate," Adam said and Logan thought he would have a heart attack. If truly he had killed her mate then they were sitting with a time bomb!
"What are you saying?" Logan yelled. "You realized that if that is true then she would be lost to her wolf very soon!" Logan's heart was beating so fast, he started regretting coming to the mission in the first place.
Logan got up and started pacing.
He should have told Damon to send someone else maybe them he would have been soared this horrible end that was unavoidable. Male werewolves that had lost their mates without being claimed to them, went mad. They lost control of their brains to their wolves and they ripped out the hearts of anyone within their range. Now, this wasn't just an ordinary werewolf. This was Laila Danvers, the wolf queen!
But... if Adam had killed her mate already, she wouldn't be on heat. Except he just killed him recently.
"When did you kill last?" Logan could not believe he was asking that but he was having a conversation with a fucking assassin, what else could they talk about?
Adam sat back down on the bed and thought it thoroughly, before saying, "I haven't killed since we got here. It has been weeks."
Logan breathed out in relief at his reply. "That means you haven't killed him," Logan said holding his chest as he sat back down. He was not looking forward to becoming a decoration on the walls of this cave.
They both sat quietly, thinking about who Laila's mate could be.
"Any other idea?" Logan asked after a while.
"The only other people we met with since we started this journey were your guys..." Adam muttered.
Logan narrowed his eyes, trying to pick one emotion. He was happy that they now had a group of people to look at but the group Adam mentioned was comprised of about twenty men give or take.
"Could you call your guys and ask which of them is having traits? The male has to feel something right?" Adam asked desperately for a positive answer.
"Yeah, he will have the most desire to find Laila, and right now every man in my pack ways to find Laila to clear our Alpha's name."
Adam was frustrated. This was a wild goose chase. How were they ever going to find Laila's mate in all this mess?
