Chapter 41

Chapter 41
Logan picked up the sand and did the same thing, whispering his prayers.
They remained in comfortable silence for a long time. The both of them starring into the sky, each thinking about the things they had missed out on and lost because of the council.
"Where do you think your Alpha is right now?" Laila whispered
"I don't know. I have tried calling him but it isn't going true." Logan replied feeling dejected. His only fear was that the council should not get to Damon. He was a strong fighter and one of the strongest Alphas the city of fangs had ever known but he was still just one man. The council was known to use powers beyond anyone's imagination. People called it the spirit wolves and they could track down anyone if they were sent, never returning until that person was dead. If they were real and they sent them to attack Damon, Logan didn't know what would happen.
"Why not try mind linking with him?" Laila asked remembering the training Adam gave to her about the abilities of her wolf.
Logan shook his head sadly. "That could only work if we had a blood relation or another connection which is not even plausible."
Laila turned her head to the side thinking about what Logan just said. If mind linking worked only that way, how were she and Adam able to mind link?
As far as she remembers, she was an only child. Her father had kept her far away from town in an isolated house. He never wanted people to know of her existence. She didn't have any other blood relatives aside from her father and her mother died a long time ago. She watched her die. So she was certain, Adam was not related to her, yet they could mind linking other.
"I am sorry but what's the other connection that's required for a mind link?" She asked Logan.
"The two people involved need to be mates or marked," Logan shrugged.
Laila's eyes increased in shock. What could this mean?
Logan was surprised to see her looking like that. He thought she got the wrong picture of him and Damon. "No, Damon isn't my mate!" He quickly corrected but she waved him off.
"No, that's not what I am thinking. I was able to connect with Adam On several occasions. Could he be my mate?" She asked more to herself than to Logan.
Logan waited for her to calm herself before asking any more questions. Laila was lost in her thoughts.
"No wonder, I feel this way..." She whispered.
"If it makes you feel better, I don't think your heat period has anything to do with being with your mate in the same place," Logan muttered under his breath. He had smelled her heat from his treehouse. It was what led her to her location.
Laila turned red with embarrassment as she bit on her lower lip. "You can smell it?" She asked.
This was a conversation she couldn't have with Adam especially now that she found out he could be her mate. That was the only explanation to their mind link.
"Yeah, I can. But it is not so bad. I wasn't exactly excited by it, I just came to make sure you didn't attract other wolves. Not like I am saying you are not attractive. You are attractive, I just-" Logan stuttered also growing embarrassed at their conversation.
"Why do you think I am on heat?" Laila asked Logan after a while.
"It's your mate. You have met them already and you haven't marked each other yet. That's what mating class 101 thought us. Didn't you attend any of it?" Logan asked, suddenly wondering why Laila didn't know even the most basic thing about werewolves.
"No, I didn't. My dad kept me away from public places. The school was one of them," Laila answered putting away her hair from her face.
Again they fell into silence as Laila thought about everything Logan was telling her. She had never felt this horny before, not even when she was with Elena. She knew Elena wasn't her mate but this was a shock to her. She had been trying to calm herself but now she knew she was wasting her time.
"How do I make it stop?" Laila whispered.
"The heat?" Logan asked, staring at her.
"Yeah," she said.
"You have to get marked. Once you do, it won't be this hard anymore until the next circle." Logan explained.
Laila knew that getting marked meant having sex. The few books her dad could steal for her taught her that much at least. But how was she going to make Adam have sex with her, she didn't even know if the guy also had feelings for her. They had been staying together for a long time now and he hadn't made one move. At night when they share body heat, his body is like a log of wood.
She was probably going to die from this heat and not from the council.
"Have you told him?" Logan asked seeing the conflict in her eyes.
"No, I haven't." She responded. How was she even supposed to tell him something like that, he would think she was mad or just desperate. "Isn't he supposed to know? Is it only the females that feel it?"
"Technically you should both feel the pull. Not at first sight as the human stories make it seem like but as time goes on. The pull is believed to get stronger. For males, it is a strong desire to see you and be with you. For the females, I don't know. The books never said, " Logan explained sadly.
He wished he could help Laila with her problems but his knowledge about female wolves was limited since the books they studied had no reference to them.
"I should head back to the cave now," Laila said getting up.
"Oh okay," Logan stuttered, also getting up.
Laila wiped the back of the t-shirt and started walking to the cave.
Logan stayed behind, watching her leave. But then an idea came to him. There was no book describing female wolves, maybe he could do it. He would just have to take more experiences from her and when he got back he could make a book about it. This way, no one had to feel the way he felt a while ago. There should be enough information on both the male and the female. It is what the humans advocated anyway. Equality for all!
Smirking at his thoughts, Logan decided to follow Laila till she got to the cave. Who knew, maybe he could pick up another trait that was different from the male mating bond effect.
Logan followed silently behind her. He thought she was going to change into her wolf form and head home but she was walking instead.
"You know you should leave now right?" Laila whispered to the air. She could sense Logan behind her and she only hoped he was smart enough to stay away now that she was heading back to the cave. It would be a shame to have him killed by Adam who thought everyone was a threat.
Logan groaned and ran the rest of the distance to her. She already knew he was following her, there was no point in hiding anymore. "I am sorry but, do you mind if I walk with you?" He asked in a small voice.
"This friendship is going to get you killed," Laila whispered with a smile. She continued walking, heading straight for the cave and Logan kept following behind her. She was starting to like the boy and she would not like it if something were to happen to him because of her.
"Do you feel any attraction to him aside from the heat?" Logan asked as they walked together.
Laila played his question in her mind. Of course, she felt attracted to him. When she closed her eyes at night, she could see his muscles rippling under the heat of the fire he enjoyed working on. Maybe it was in her head but Adam was the hottest guy she had ever met. She couldn't think of any other person — well, the only other person that could compete with him was Damon.
"Laila, you haven't answered, you are only smiling..." Logan whispered.
"Oh, yeah- yeah," she answered breathing sharply.
Logan nodded and was about to comment when a loud growl filled the air. He turned his face back up and saw a fierce-looking Adam standing at the foot of the cave with his crawls extending out.
Logan stopped moving and took a defensive stance but Laila held his shoulder stopping him.
"Adam, listen to me..." Laila said standing protectively in front of Logan.
"Get away from him Laila!" Adam growled, moving towards them. "I told you to stay away from strangers!"
"He isn't a stranger. He is my friend!" Laila yelled but Adam didn't look like he was listening.
Adam moved at a speed even Logan could not keep up with. He planned to move as fast as he could and severe Logan's neck even with Laila standing in front of him. But Laila's hair started shining a bright white light and she held out her hand, stopping Adam just as he was about to claw his way to Logan's neck.
"I said stop!"
Laila growled so loud, her voice echoed in the surrounding area, causing sleeping birds to fly away to safety. It was like an incoming tsunami shaking the trees from the root to the branches.
Adam got frozen in shock and Logan could not believe what he was seeing. His legs had gone weak and he would have run off if he was in Damon's position. He had never felt this kind of power before. Not even Damon's growl had this much effect and he was an alpha. Laila was much stronger than any of them anticipated.
Her eyes suddenly went dark and her hands fell off Adam's hand. Her body suddenly felt weak, so weak that she could no longer hold herself upright. The ground was coming dangerously close and before, Adam could hold her, she collapsed to the floor.
