Chapter 39
Chapter 39
"You don't want us to go back to the precinct again?" Thompson asked, confused at Crater's orders.
"I am talking about you, Thompson. I know Jimmy won't be returning to the state. He will want to continue this case. I want you to help me. Whatever he does, I want you to report to me."
Thompson raised his brows even higher than before. He could not understand why Carter would want that. "Why would you want to do that? Jimmy is a good worker!" Thompson snapped, his voice going a bit higher than normal.
The men in a suit around Carter tightened up their hold on their guns and kept their eyes directly on their master's face. All they needed was a signal and Thompson would be shot in the spot.
Carter signaled to them to drop their guns by waving his hand and they all dropped their guns. "You are still young and you don't understand. But if you want to grow in this path, you need to utilize that brain of yours." Carter stated.
"What are you even concerned with this case. Why not let it go as you have made everyone believe?" Jimmy asked. There had to be something in all of this for Carter, if not he wouldn't be so concerned.
"Laila Danvers is a dangerous criminal and she needs to be stopped. The same thing applies to Damon Michaels. You saw what he did to that poor old man, we don't want that to happen to anybody else. We want to end this threat that's why I want you on my team. Help me rid this country of this evil... "
"Why can't you work with Jimmy?" Thompson wondered out loud.
Carter had been working with Jimmy longer than he had worked with him. So why, did he suddenly want a different person?
"I have told you before, Jimmy is old. And I am tired of working with old people." Carter extended his arms and gave him his card. "Call me when you think about it. Jimmy isn't reasonable. Be different."
With that, he started walking away from him and his minions followed slowly behind him.
Thompson remained with the card in his hands, wondering what the encounter was all about. Carter wanted him to snitch on Jimmy. It was true that he hadn't been working with Jimmy for a long time but he couldn't just be expected to snitch on him.
He watched as Carter and his men got into their vehicles and zoomed off. Something really deep was going on and he would have to find out about it. Taking a deep breath, he returned to the restaurant from the same door he had come out of.
As he stepped in, someone pushed him to the wall, pulling at his collar, "We could still go at it if you want!" Emily breathed.
Thompson tore her hands away from his shirt, glaring at her. "You think I am stupid enough to fall for your tricks a second time?"
Emily clutched her large bosom in fear. "You don't understand. Councilman Carter is dangerous. No one says no to him. I was even lucky to get paid for the job." She snarled, nursing her hands.
Thompson didn't want to believe her. Everything she said sounded and looked like a trap to him. But he didn't fail to notice how she called him a councilman. Carter was supposed to be a captain of the state police department, not a councilman.
"But I like you and I felt bad that I had to lure you in like that only to leave you hanging. If it means anything, I was truly hoping we could still give it a go and if you value your life, you will come with me," she added in a low voice.
She was delusional to think he would give in to her after what he encountered. "Am I walking around with a big sign that says 'I want to die on my head?" Thompson snapped pointing at his forehead.
Without waiting for her answer he pushed her off and returned to the restaurant where he had left Jimmy.
"Took you long enough. I thought you have forgotten about me," Jimmy joked.
Thompson picked up the patrol car keys and grabbed his jacket from the seat. "Let's get out of here. I will explain in the car," he said and started walking out of the place.
"Woah! Slow down did you choke the poor waitress or something?" Jimmy snickered.
Thompson sent him a cold glare as he continued walking out of the place. Jimmy gathered up his jacket and wallet, dropped their bill on the desk, and ran after him.
"Hey, slow down, I am too old for this!" He laughed.
He got to the car and strapped himself in. Thompson was already seated, immediately Jimmy settled, he started the car, driving far away from the restaurant and the city in all.
Jimmy noticed the frown on his partner's face and allowed him to drive on for long before he asked him about it. This would help him clear his mind. He wouldn't want to develop another problem with the young detective like he had with Mike.
They had driven for about an hour when Thompson suddenly moved to the side of the road and packed the car.
"Fuck!" He cursed.
"Are you going to talk about it or should I keep pretending you are fine?" Jimmy asked him.
Thompson turned completely on his seat so that he was now, facing Jimmy. "Carter was at that restaurant!" He said and Jimmy raised his brows in worry.
"Did he see us?" Jimmy asked.
If Carter saw them still in that town, it was not going to be good. He would call the state and increase their sanctions.
"He saw me. He came for me," Thompson muttered In anger.
"He came fit you? I don't understand." Jimmy stated.
Thompson dipped his hands in his jean pocket and brought out the card Carter had given him. "He knows you want to keep going in this search for Laila Danvers. He knows you won't stop."
Jimmy wanted to ask him more questions but he sat still, letting Thompson say everything he wanted to say before interrupting him. Thompson was very disturbed by the whole ordeal, Jimmy wanted him to say it all out, so he could free himself from the burden.
"I asked him why he lied to everyone about the case and he told me some bull shit about politics and crap!" Thompson snapped.
"I couldn't even have a good time with that Emily girl because of him! Do you know she called him councilman? Who the fuck is Carter anyway?"
"Councilman?" Jimmy wondered.
"Is that all you are going to ask me? I need to fuck somebody and you are asking me about that?" Thompson cried out. He opened his side door and stepped out of the car.
"What am I supposed to do, offer you my ass?" Jimmy snickered going after the young detective. "Listen, just calm down okay?"
"I can't fucking calm down. Have you seen my little man?" Thompson snapped pointing at the mountain in his pants.
Jimmy stared at it and burst out in laughter. The poor guy was having a hard-on at the wrong time.
"I am sure you can find a way to relieve yourself in a couple of miles. Come on, let's go!" Jimmy said.
But just as he turned around to return to the car, a loud explosion went off and the both of them fell Into the muddy ground for cover.
Jimmy slowly raised his head to look up and he saw their car on fire!
Carter walked back to his vehicle grabbing his phone from his pocket.
"Are you done with the implant?" He asked someone through the phone.
"Yes, sir. It is done." The person responded.
Carter ended the call and his driver zoomed away from the restaurant. His lord didn't want any other loose end in this case anymore. He was working hard to eliminate everyone who was a threat to their game.
In no time, his vehicle parked in front of the lord Supremo's house and Carter alighted from it.
"Carter, what news do you bring? Did the young detective accept our offer?" Deason asked.
He was in his large sitting room, clothed in barely a boxer with a large glass of wine in his hands. Two young women worked on his sharp claws, trimming and grooming them to perfection.
"I am afraid he refused my lord," Carter responded.
Dearkson sat up straighter waving the young ladies away from him. The both of them stood up politely and scurried out of the room, leaving the two men to themselves.
"Why are humans so stupid?" Clarkson exclaimed, standing to pit on his dressing robe.
"I hope you took the necessary measures, we don't want a bunch of humans starting unnecessary flames. I must win this election. I must rule this country. I am bored of ruling just the werewolves, I want the humans under my reign too and you must make it happen."
"Yes, my lord, I am working on both sides, making sure everything goes as planned," Carter said, bowing respectfully.
"Have you verified the measure you put in place for the foolish detective?"
"Yes, my lord. I have placed a bomb in their vehicle. They should be dead in no time. " Carter assured him.
"How can you be so sure?" Dearkson placed his legs on the couch.
"I sent my men to verify the area in a case by any chance either of them survived," Carter explained.
"Ah, that's very good. What about the other fool, Damon?"
"The spirits haven't returned but my boys found his car in the wreckage a few days ago. I am certain they got him. The spirits never fail unless the goddess herself saves him, Damon can't survive." There was an extra bounce on his heels as he spoke he was more than certain of Damon's death, Dearkson had. Nothing to worry about.
"You have done exceedingly well, Carter. Now, all we have to worry about is Laila." Dearkson snapped his fingers, a large grin growing on his face as he saw his victory, the young girls that had been with him ran back at the sound of his fingers and resumed working on his claws.
Getting Laila was no longer going to be difficult. Every obstacle had been removed. In no time, Laila was going to be dead and he would be able to continue ruling for another thousand years until the goddess decided to send another she-wolf that could stop him.
