Chapter 74

Chapter 74
Jack’s POV

“Marie?” I echoed. Marie was not even here, so how did she do it? Was Scarlett losing her mind? “Calm down Scarlett, please…”

That was the worst thing I could’ve said at that moment, because it aggravated the issue she wept even louder,
“I know you’ll defend her! You’ll take her side but she’s a murderer, she murdered my brother.” She went on wailing.

A,t this point I thought Scarlett was losing her mind because of Becky’s death. I don’t think she understood what she was talking about, so I hugged her very tightly. Then I eased her onto the bed, I didn’t understand what she was talking about, I needed to understand what she was trying to tell me. Maybe she had it all wrong or maybe I wasn’t getting what she was trying to tell me.

“Can you explain?” I asked.

“She’s a dragon princess, she’s from the Southern Dragon Kingdom. She kills werewolves and feeds their blood to her dragon.” She narrated to me as I stared at her wondering if she had totally lost it.

Dragons don’t even shift, okay, I must admit that I didn’t even know that werewolves existed or were shifters till I found out that I was one but I’m still pretty sure that dragons do not shift and grieve was probably making Scarlett hallucinate and talk nonsense.

“Dragon?” I sighed, and hugged her again, “I’m so sorry Scarlett, I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t believe me right? The evidence is right there in her room.” She screeched.

I nodded, “okay, okay. I will check her room.” I replied brushing her hair with my hands.
She jerked out of my bed visibly upset, if she could strike me dead I believe she would have done it that instant.

“Why don’t you believe me?” She screamed.
“I believe you!”

“That’s a lie! If you believed me you would have asked more questions, you would have been more curious, you’re staring at me probably wondering if I’ve lost my mind. I’m not crazy Jack, you have to believe me.” She said.

“I believe you…”

“No you don’t!” She argued and dashed out of the room, I ran after her trying to make sure she didn't harm herself yet I didn’t run fast enough to stop her, I didn’t want to suppress her grief. She should be able to grieve without harming herself.

She kept running and I sadly followed her down the corridors where everyone was mourning Becky’s death. The press had surrounded the pack house hoping to get inside and get some hot news for the newspapers and tv stations but nobody was in the right frame of mind for that. These people don’t know when to turn their cameras and mics off.

I got a little distracted but my mind got dragged to my queen, she was now in Marie’s room, I followed her inside and she was tearing the drawers wide open, and splattering all Marie’s belongings apart,

“Her ID must be somewhere here, Becky found it, she told me about it, Jack go on the internet and check it for yourself, I’m not lying. The Southern Dragon Kingdom.”
“Okay, I will check it. Please don’t exert yourself. Please Scarlett, please listen to me and get some rest…”

“How can you ask me to rest when Becky is gone? How?” My heart went out to her, the pain of growing up alone with no one to call a friend was nothing compared to the pain of losing a beloved friend.

“Scarlett,” I said, taking both of her hands in mine as she wept bitterly, “I promise to get justice for Becky, I will not let this slide…”

“No, you will not. You don’t even think the culprit is guilty. How are you going to find the justice you are talking about?”
“I promise to investigate it, and if she’s as guilty as you say, I will hang her on the rope for you to see,”

Her eyes searched mine as she was searching for a place to put her trust but she couldn’t bring herself to find it in me. It hurts that she doesn’t trust me the way I want her to but I can’t blame her, everything was my fault from the start.

“Are you sure? No, I can never trust you when that girl is involved.” She asked and answered herself.

She dashed out of the room, and once again, I followed her out. This time I was fighting back my own grief, who was going to give me tips on how to make Scarlett happy? And Warren, what was he going to do now that he had lost his only mate? Things were never going to be the same again in this pack house.

Just as I was about to make a quick dash for the control room, I was interrupted again this time by a guard.
“Sir, an immigration officer is here to see you. Should I let him in?”

Immigration? What did they want at this time of the night?

“Did he say what it was about?” I skeptically asked.
“I think it’s about the missing maid, she has returned. She can’t be allowed entry into the country because they are not sure how she left in the first place.”

My eyes began to twitch as if I were a faulty computer, Marie? Why did she choose today of all days to return? I began to hyperventilate, was she guilty as charged?

I didn’t know what to do, whether to tell the officer to keep Marie away till investigations were over or let her return to the pack house at this heated hour. It was hard to think of what to do. I didn't want to make a mistake. I didn’t believe Scarlett but what if she was right? I also didn’t want to doubt Marie without any evidence.

Bringing her here would upset Scarlett, what do I do now? I looked up and saw Scarlett standing at the far end of the hallway staring at me. Her wolf was lurking in her eyes as she glared at me.

“Let her in,” she linked me.
