Chapter 57 - The Alpha’s Goddess
~LEONIDAS'S P.O.V~
Her smell was so enticing. I had to have a taste. I could feel her power even in my comatose state. Her power was calling to me, begging me to complete it.
I fought so hard against the medication my dad had me doped up on. Why not just put a stake through my heart if he didn’t want me in the way? Why leave me alive, suffering day in and out? Hearing everything and everyone around me but not being able to move a single muscle.
Something woke inside of me one day a few weeks back. It was as if her powers were dormant and as soon as she found them again, they were calling me.
I only remember this happening one other time and I told my father. It’s like he knew instantly what I meant. I remember being out with my sister one afternoon. We were hunting for animals, her wolf and my monster, the demon raging inside of me. That’s when I saw her. A young girl using magic at the age of 4, she mastered so much I dared dream of mastering at that age. She was skillful and elegant. The way she leaped into the air to catch the butterfly made my heart flutter. My older sister, by 2 years, would cover for me while I would sneak to the meadow where we played for hours at a time.
We lived in our universe my dad created, where time moves differently for me than it did for her. Where I would be gone for a week, it was only a day for her. So, she sees me daily, whereas I see her once a week. For 3 months we played. I got to know her and, even at a young age, she was so thoughtful and intelligent.
It was her; I knew even at the age of 8 that she was my soulmate. I have no wolf since I am a hybrid of half warlock and half vampire. Technically speaking, I would be her mate, while she would be my soul mate. The same for one another. She has a wolf and I have a blood-sucking monster. Of course, I wouldn’t know the truth until I turned 18 if she were my other half.
However, after the last time I saw her, something happened, and she disappeared. I could no longer feel her power and I lost control. My father didn’t trust me and tried locking me away for a while, claiming I needed time to come to terms with my rapidly growing power, but really, I just needed to find her.
By the time I was 15, my dad tried getting me to do stuff, terrible stuff. I didn’t feel like it was right, so one day I used my gift given from the goddess herself. The day my soulmate vanished, she visited me, the goddess. She was as gorgeous as my father had said and radiated power. She told me I would do great things and become all my destiny needed. That day, I was gifted by her with the power of mind manipulation. I never told him how I obtained this gift. I never told anyone for that matter. My dad had Lovett accidentally and decided to experiment with a vampire, my mother. He said if he could use the stamina that vampires offer in his child, he’d become the most powerful of them all. I didn't, I didn't become the child he desired. I was a monster with a conscience and a heart. Not what he thought he’d get by mating a vampire at all. He expected me to be violent and unpredictable, he expected me to be exactly what I was, a monster. But that wasn’t me. I wouldn’t be what he wanted me to be, I was better than that. I knew in my heart I wasn’t made to be evil, I was made for the greater good, so I turned on my father. I used my gift to stop him from killing someone innocent. I don’t remember what happened next. I just remember controlling him and him stopping, then all of a sudden at dinner that night, after I ate my food and drank my drink, I fell into this comatose state and have been hooked to this IV drip ever since.
That is until I felt her power in this world once again. It woke a part of me that was long shut off from this world. I won’t lose her again. So, I fought harder than I ever have. And it was worth it, looking at her beautiful face all grown up and here, in front of me.
I reached out and she heard. She came to me; her body was calling to me long before her mind even knew it. She needed me and I needed her.
We’d been staring at each other for some time, neither of us speaking, so I decided to break the silence.
“Hello love, I’m Leonidas.”
That didn’t get me anywhere because she remained quiet.
I knew even back then that she was my soulmate. I felt it not only in my heart but also in my soul. I was right then, and my father didn’t believe me. Tried convincing me she was nothing special. Boy was he wrong. Look at her. Speaking of which, why is she here and why was she drinking that medicine?
“I hope this doesn’t sound wrong. I’m so glad to see you, Railynn, but why are you here?” I finally asked, praying to the goddess that it wasn’t what I thought.
I saw her visibly gulp for the second time.
“How do you know my birth name?”
Is she serious? I mean, I know my features have changed with age, but I still feel like I look the same.
“You don’t remember me?” I asked.
“Should I?” She asks, breaking my heart. I thought she knew too, I thought she knew at 4 that we were destined to be together.
“Railynn we met before, when you were 4. We played in a meadow together. For you, it was daily, for me it was not. But I still came to see you as much as I could.”
I could see the sadness in her eyes. How does she not remember me?
“I’m sorry, I have little to no memory of my past. Magic barrier and all. I’ve broken through most of it, but memories are still withheld. A lot has happened.” She mutters defeated.
“Your memories? Everything?”
“Well, everything from my former life, yeah. I was placed with an adoptive family, my memory erased, and my powers blocked, I became someone new, the person I am today isn’t who you knew me as.”
“You’re still her. You called me to just like that day, your powers called to my soul. It’s done it before, that’s how I found you the first time. And they did it again, but this time you found me.” I said, reaching out to her. I just want to embrace her in my arms. I want to hold her and never let go.
“Railynn, why are you here in this world, and why were you drinking that potion?”
“I was given the potion. I’m not sure everything is a little foggy. But I know that I was taken. I was taken by a man named Jakus. They wiped more memories from my life and were trying to coax me into believing false ones. However, it didn’t work, I had this pull in my head that wouldn’t stop. And here I am.”
“What does my father want from you?”
“Father! So, I have you to blame too!”
“I was in a sedated coma until a few moments ago, how would I have anything to do with this?” I said as I moved my hands around at nothing in particular but used for referencing the situation. I see her release a breath.
“I can help you if you let me?" I finally said.
“How?”
“Come here, I’ll show you.” I hope she listens. I see the hesitation lingering in her eyes, but she walks forward and is now standing right in front of me.
I grabbed hold of her and pulled her body flush with mine. I rest my head on top of hers and embrace her in my arms.
“How is this going to hel- “
“Shh, I need to focus,” I said, interrupting her.
I am using my gift for the first time in a long time. However, this time I will use it to manipulate her brain to let the barrier down. I pull and tug at the strings, barely holding on for dear life until finally, they snap. I watch as her memories unfold, everything from her young age that was blocked to her adult age. Some of which I wished I had not seen. Her life, she has had such a hard life, not as hard as it could’ve been, of course, but hard nonetheless. Look at her. She is strong, she is powerful, and she will be a wonderful queen to all supernatural beings.
“Holy shit. How did you do that?” She asks as her eyes plead with my own.
“It’s a little gift I was blessed with,” I answered with a smile.
I could see in her eyes she had many more questions.
“Let’s sit, yeah?”
She shakes her head agreeing.
“Actually, first I have to take care of something,” I said as I looked up at the clock.
“I need you to stand in the corner for a moment, okay?” She nods, retreating to the corner. I lay back down on the bed as the door flew open.
I hear the same humming I’ve heard every time the maid comes to re-dose me to keep me doped up in a comatose state.
I hate to manipulate her, but if I don’t want my father to find out, then that’s what I’ll have to do.
She gets closer, flicking the needle with one finger, moving around the substance inside. She walks over to the IV pole to push some buttons on the machine.
“Okay, let’s get your medicine.” She says as she inserts the tip of the needle into the spot you push medicine thru on the line, not realizing the line isn’t even in my arm anymore.
“You look handsome today, a more normal color. They must’ve pushed some blood through before me.” She says, speaking to herself but also to me.
I then decide to open my eyes, a soft scream releasing before I tap my finger on her head. Her eyes glossed over, signaling that I was inside of it.
“You’re to let my dad know I am still in a coma, you are to do everything you’d normally do as if I were here. I will not be in this room, but you will continue as if I was. You will make sure you’re the only maid to cater to me and you will not tell my father I have awoken. Are we clear?”
She nods her head, then continues to do what she would normally do.
“What did you just do?” I heard Railynn ask from the corner.
“I used mind manipulation to alter her a little. I don’t want my father to know I’ve awoken.”
I could see questions lingering in her eyes.
“Let’s talk and start over, yeah?” I asked, her head nodding and agreeing.
“So, we are in another universe where time works differently than home?”
“Yes. When did you arrive?”
“I arrived not long ago.”
“Which means it may have already been a few days since your arrival.”
“But my mate.” I flinched at her words. Does she have a mate? Of course, she does, the one she was sleeping in her memories. I release a breath. I’m too late, I missed my chance and it’s all my father's fault!
“It's only been an hour or so for him.” I clarified, even though I felt like tearing down everything. She was supposed to be mine; I was drawn to her so early on, I was supposed to be her mate.
“Does he treat you right?” I decide to hold down my anger, it’s not either of their fault. It’s not mine either. The only person to blame is my father.
“He does.” She replies with a smile. Which brings comfort to know she is happy.
“But Emery says you will make us happy too.” Her statement stunned me.
“Emery, I remember her.”
“She says you’re her mate too,” Railynn says as she looks at the ground.
“Is that possible? To have two mates at the same time, I mean.”
“Emery says that since you’re not a wolf, you’re a vampire and a warlock, your mark is different and it’s possible to coexist with both you and Gunner as our mates.”
“But what do you want?” I asked as we reached her bedroom. I cast a quick spell. If anyone enters, they don’t see me before going in. We have to tread lightly when it comes to Jakus. He is unpredictable. He doesn't know that I am awake.
“I remember you.” She says, avoiding my question, making me smile at her diversion.
“Anything good?” I asked while wiggling my eyebrows, causing her to laugh.
“As good as a 4-year-old defines good.” She says with a laugh. Goddess her laugh, was like music to my ears.
“You disappeared. I couldn’t find you. I searched and searched.”
“I’m sorry, they put me in hiding. Took away everything including my name. I’ve been going by Callie for a long time now.”
Callie huh? I’m not sure how I feel about that. I loved her name Railynn, it fit her so nicely.
“And what do you want to go by?”
“Now that I have my full memories, I don’t know. My soul feels like a Railynn but my mind feels like a Callie.”
“It’ll come in time. You’ll know. But for now, what would you like me to call you?”
“Mate?” She says with a laugh. “No, I’m kidding, just call me what you feel is right. That’s what everyone else does.” She says with a shrug.
We spent the next several hours getting caught up with each other, seeing how I'd been in a coma. It didn’t take much to get caught up with me. But there was a lot that happened to her. I’m just so glad she trusted me to tell me.
We talk about her fear of not being what everyone wants her to be. We talked about how she killed over 100 wolves with the flick of her hand and how she feels about it. She truly was amazing. I knew that at a young age, she would be an amazing woman. The kills affected her but not to the level one would expect. She is strong, so strong. Then we talked about what my dad wanted with her. My blood boiled with rage. So, he used me to get what he wanted? He knew all along and used me as a puppet and then sedated me when I was no longer of use to him. Did he plan to take my soul mate and force her to be his? How dare he! He has absolutely no right!
In my moment of rage, I didn’t see the maid who had fucked my dad walk in, Ingrid. Luckily, I put an illusion barrier up, so she didn’t see me.
“Madam Railynn, Sir Jakus would like to know when you want your ceremony.”
So, is he going to try and marry my mate? Over my dead body!
“Um, do I have to pick one now?” Railynn asks.
“No madam, he said he would like to do it in the next few days but to take your time to pick.”
“Right. Thank you, Ingrid. I’ll let you know.” Ingrid bows and goes to exit.
“Oh, and Ingrid?” Railynn says, catching her attention.
“Congratulations on your baby, I bet your soulmate is thrilled.” My eyes bulged out of my skull. Railynn sensed her pregnancy? From the look on Ingrid's face, she had no clue.
“Do let me throw you a shower?” Railynn taunts.
“Oh, um oh please excuse me,” Ingrid said as she placed her hand on her belly and exited the room fast.
“She is pregnant? I didn’t sense it. I normally can sense those things.”
“Yeah, it’s barely even a zygote. Looks like you’re going to be a big brother. Guess your father shouldn’t have cheated on his soon-to-be wife.” She says with a laugh.
“You’re meaning to tell me her egg was just fertilized?” I asked, astonished. “How did you know?”
“Must be the goddess in me. I could sense life blooming inside of her even if the sperm just made its way into her egg. Kind of amazing though honestly.”
I look at my soulmate, she just continues to become more amazing.
“Okay, let’s discuss our next move,” Railynn says, jumping headfirst into ideas.
I can get used to this. Me, Railynn, I can even see perfect harmony with her wolf mate. This can work. Emery was right. It has to work because I will not let go, I will never let go. She is mine just as she is his. She is both of our mates, and we will make this work, because there is no way I am letting her go again, especially now that our bond has formed. That was my fault. I shouldn't have bitten her; I should have restrained myself. But we can't change the past. Railynn is my soulmate and that will never change.
But before we can be happy together, we have to destroy the one man standing in our way. My father.
