Chapter 215 Kaden's POV
Chapter 215 Kaden's POV
I was reviewing surveillance reports when Elara burst into my office.
Her face was tear-streaked, her eyes wild. She clutched a leather journal to her chest like it was the most precious thing in the world.
"Kaden, I need to talk to you right now, it is important."
I stood immediately. "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Is Adrian-"
"Adrian's fine. I'm fine. Physically but Kaden, I know what's happening. I know why I've been blacking out. Why have people been seeing me in places I've never been."
She sat down in the chair across from my desk and took a deep breath. "I have a twin sister."
Of all the things I had expected her to say, that wasn't on the list.
"What?"
"A twin sister, identical twin. Her name is Nyx. She was abandoned in the forest when we were babies because of a prophecy about shadow-touched twins bringing destruction."
She explained everything. The vision. Elder Ruth's confession, the journal. Her mother's heartbroken entries about abandoning a daughter to save the pack.
I listened, my mind racing, processing. Connecting pieces I hadn't understood before.
The photo of Elara covered in blood, the dark magic in her bloodstream. The blackouts. The sightings.
It wasn't a possession. It was a twin sister. Someone who looked exactly like her.
"Are you absolutely certain about this? Could the vision have been trauma-induced? A hallucination?"
"Elder Ruth confirmed it and this journal-"
She handed it to me. "Read it, read what my mother wrote. It is all there, the prophecy, the abandonment, everything."
I read through the entries, saw the anguish. The impossible choice. The regret that had consumed her mother for the rest of her short life.
"If this is true, if you have a twin sister who survived being abandoned, then she's been alive this whole time. Growing up somewhere. Possibly with rogues or outcasts."
"And now she is here, in our territory, maybe trying to find me. Maybe trying to fulfill the prophecy."
"Or maybe trying to get revenge on the family that abandoned her."
Elara's face crumpled. "I don't blame her if she wants revenge. What was done to her was unforgivable. She was innocent, a baby and they left her to die."
"Your parents were trying to save their pack. They made an impossible choice based on fear and prophecy."
"That doesn't make it right, nothing makes abandoning a child right."
She was correct but I couldn't focus on the morality of decisions made fifteen years ago. I needed to focus on the present threat.
"If your sister is here, if she's the one people have been seeing, then she's dangerous. She killed those rogues.”
“She has been moving through our territory undetected. She has skills and power we don't understand."
"She also might just want to meet me, to know her twin, to have the family she was denied."
"Or she might want to destroy everything. The prophecy spoke of destruction as an option, right?"
"It spoke of salvation too; the prophecy was ambiguous. It said we'd either save or destroy all packs. Together."
The words together stood out to me. "The prophecy requires both twins? Working together?"
"I think that is why separating us was supposed to prevent it. But we are both alive. Both in the same place, the prophecy can be fulfilled now."
I called Damian immediately. "Get to my office. Emergency meeting brings any research materials you have on Silvercrest pack history and prophecies."
He arrived fifteen minutes later, arms full of books and tablets.
"What's the emergency?"
"Elara has a twin sister, an identical twin. Abandoned at birth because of a prophecy. We need you to research everything about that prophecy. Find out exactly what it says and what it means."
Damian's eyes widened. "A twin? That would explain the dark magic in your blood. The inconsistent readings.”
“You're not carrying dark magic. Your twin is. And when she's near you or touching things you've touched, it creates cross-contamination."
"Can you find information about the prophecy?"
"I can try for a few hours."
He left with the journal, promising to return with whatever he could find.
Elara and I sat in heavy silence.
"I need to tell the pack," She said finally.
"They need to know there is someone who looks like me moving around. So they don't get confused or frightened."
"Not yet, not until we know more. If we announce you have an evil twin, it'll cause panic. People will question everything you do. Wonder if they are talking to you or to her."
"They are already questioning. I can see it in their eyes. The way they look at me lately. Like they're not sure who I am."
She was right. I would have noticed it too. The suspicious glances. The whispered conversations that stopped when she entered a room.
"Let me handle the pack. You focus on figuring out how to find your sister. How to talk to her before this escalates into violence."
Over the next few days, I heard the whispers growing louder.
"Luna has been acting strange."
"I saw her in two places at once. How is that possible?"
"What if she's possessed? Cursed?"
"What if that thing that killed those children was her?"
I called pack meetings and addressed the concerns publicly.
"Luna Elara is not possessed. She's not cursed. She's dealing with the aftermath of severe trauma and the stress of the lunar pulse. Anyone spreading rumors to the contrary will answer to me personally."
But I could see the doubt in their eyes, the fear.
And privately, I had my own doubts. What if we were wrong? What if it wasn't a twin but something worse?
