The battle

The battle
The vampire leader politely smiled turned downward. He stepped forward with slow, menacing steps, assuming the dynamic of a predator while his amethyst eyes glowed with bloodlust.
More than anyone else, Dali recognized this. She maintained her stance, the ball of flame still sitting pretty in the middle of her opened palm, waiting for any attack.
“He belongs to you?”
Dali nodded her head. “This village belongs to me, and as long as he found his way here, he has become mine. You cannot have him.”
“Have you forgotten what he did to the healers?” the vampire inquired, desiring to provoke some sort of anger or hate towards Chase in Dali.
This was uncalled for simply because she did hate Chase and was so angry with him. They did not have to do much. However, giving Chase to them meant that the world would be tossed into a war. The reason was far from Chase being the only person that would save the world, it was mainly that the werewolves would be wiped off the face of the earth if she handed him to them.
There was no news if his pack was still alive. If they had been killed or if they ran away, there’s no news of them. It was probable that they had been killed in the vampires’ need to dominate the world, but they could also have run away.
These vampires simply want to eliminate a whole kind. Now, that was unacceptable. The only downside to this was the fact that it was Chase. If it was someone else, yes, she would be happy and not feel guilty about protecting him. But not Chase.
Standing here, fire in her hand and the desire to kill these vampires, she hated that it was simply to protect the person that did this to her.
Her life was ruined by him and now she was expected to protect him? To keep him safe? To make sure no harm comes to him because he was the only hope the werewolves had?
Damn.
“I know what Chase did, I stood by and watched him do those inhumane things to the healers.”
The vampire raised his eyebrows. “And you still protect him?”
“Should I kill him?”
He chuckled. “His pack has an outstanding issue with the vampires, we just want him killed and then we will be on our merry way out of here.”
“You’ll only be on your merry way out of here because you cannot kill healers, but if you could, would you even have time to frolic around this village?” She did not wait for a response. “You wouldn’t. You would kill everyone here even before they could open their eyes.”
“Your point?”
“Why should I let you live?”
The vampire scoffed. “You’re one and you think you would survive this?”
Dali smirked. “And you think you would survive meeting Chase on the battlefield?”
The vampire took a long sniff. He tilted his head to the side as if entranced by the smell that wafted from Dali. His eyes closed in pleasure, intoxicated by her essence.
“You’re a vampire,” he said. “And a witch.”
“Anything new?”
The corner of his lips stretched into the widest smile yet, almost as if he just came into some kind of information that made his dead heart dance.
“You’re not a healer,” he said, and like a gust of wind carrying the cold air of the night mixed with murder intent that exuded from him like pheromones, he rushed towards her.
Dali sidestepped away. Unfortunately, her speed was inferior to his, but that did not place her at a disadvantage. The flames shot out from her palm.
The wind carried the golden element of nature, straight from her palm towards the vampires standing idly alone behind. The second the flames touched them, their screeches echoed in the dark night.
Just like that, two of those vampires fell victim to her flames.
This made the leader pause. He glanced at his subordinates then returned his gaze to Dali. “You’re so good at using underhanded means, aren’t you?”
“Underhanded?” She scoffed. “I’m here to kill you all, and if you came first, nothing stops me from killing the rest.”
“I will stop you!” He advanced forward.
The sound of doors opening pulled the rest of the vampires from the battle. They turned towards the huts where the healers stood watching the battle.
The vampires around stirred with the hate of having to watch healers stand before them with no fear digging into their consciousness. They stood, watching, showing no concern for the vampires standing by.
Between vampires and healers, an altercation was something that was improbable. Due to the agreement of the past, neither the healers nor the vampires can be subjected to a clash with the other. Just like how the vampires could not bring harm to the healers, the healers cannot kill the vampires either.
However, the repercussion for a healer killing a vampire was lesser than the other way around. At most, the healer would be punished for generations. Still, it was best to be on the safe side.
The only time a healer could kill a vampire was only as a form of defense. That was why when the vampires showed up the first time, the healers had to wait for the vampires to attack first. And they did.
So when Alexa, Marisol, Kiara, and the others stepped out of their huts, standing as the audience for the clash of power between Dali and these vampires, none of them could take a step forward to assist.
Dali had to battle these vampires alone.
She moved like lightning, bringing flames to any vampires she could meet. The ones with amethyst eyes were left, after having successfully turned the rest to ashes and suffering no harm.
“You’re quite powerful,” the leader said. “Why do you defend these people?”
“Why are you running your mouth instead of fighting?”
“You can excel fighting by your people. Why are you here defending these ones?”
Dali’s chest rose and fell, but her gaze did not falter. “Why would I be surrounded by people just like me? How can I stand out?”
“So you’d rather stand out amongst people that are lesser than you?”
She shrugged. “One has to do what one has to do.”
She lunged a ball of flame at him, but with dexterity, he moved like a leaf caught in a whirlpool, fast on his toes and filled with the energy of a thousand men. He evaded the flame.
However, one fell victim.
The leader watched how that vampire caught in the flame burned to ashes just after being touched by the flame. His head snapped to Dali, his eyes turning darker from the rage flowing through his empty veins.
“What the fuck is your problem?” he hissed.
Dali lifted an eyebrow. “I can’t say. I’m just made this way.”
Just like that, they clashed again.
Marisol and the others stood watching, their hearts racing. She trusted in Dali’s ability to stand her ground against these vampires, but the consistent use of underhanded methods could not keep working against the vampires.
This breed was more powerful than the ones with golden eyes. It just so happens that the one that fell victim to her flames just now was simply distracted and could not escape from the flames on time.
However, this trick will cease to work on the others.
“We need help,” Alexa said before Marisol could force herself to admit it.
Deidre nodded her head. “We do. She alone can’t keep going. We need Chase and his friend to help.”
“And how sure are you that they want to help?” Kiara asked, glancing over to the hut where Chase and Damon lived.
Through the windows, they all could see Chase and Damon simply watching.
