Chapter 197
Sofia
I was devouring a chicken leg when I heard the doorbell ring. My mother was in the kitchen when she went to see who it was and my father continued watching TV while he looked at the newspaper. Without paying attention to one or the other.
"Hello." My mother said as she opened the door. I craned my neck to see who it was and saw the wolf with Asian features called Sury right in front of her.
“Hello, I hope I’m not in your way.” He responded.
“No, come in.” My mother opened space and Sury entered. My father put down the newspaper and also turned down the volume on the TV when he saw her.
“Hello, Sury, what a surprise... How can we help?” He set the newspaper aside and I placed the chicken back on the plate before wiping my fingers.
“Actually, I want to talk to you about a delicate matter.” She looked at me before my mother asked her to sit on the armchair. Then she sat down.
"Please. So let's talk." My mother settled down next to my father and I felt the air change for a moment.
“The topic is about Joseph, Sophia’s friend.” She looked at me again and I shook hands. He died?" And that?" We were attacked these days... Does that mean he died?”
"What does he have?" I asked and she continued looking at me before turning her eyes to my parents.
“Joseph went into heat and I wanted to know if you would allow your daughter to help him.” She laid eyes on me again.” That's if you accept it too, Sophia, of course.
He wasn't dead, at least. Although the matter hasn't stopped getting any less bad.
My throat dried up.
In my old pack, some wolves a little older than me talked about this. From when they transformed for the first time or when they helped a wolf in heat for the first time.
And when I moved here, when I turned, I met two wolves at my school before I met Joseph. It was one of the worst months of my life. I discovered that I was the only wolf my age in the pack and I would soon discover that this would cause me a lot of problems. Because they soon started asking me to pair with them if they went into heat. BOTH!
I refused. And I refused again. I even had to stay away from school for a few days when they fought because of me. That is until my parents spoke to Connor. And one of them left the pack and the other was transferred to another school far from that city. It was a relief. A huge relief.
That was until Joseph found me too.
“Sophie had some trouble with some young wolves a few months ago because of this... I don't know if she...” My mother commented and Sury seemed understanding.
“Why didn’t the boy come with you?” My father commented a little more crudely than I expected and Sury looked at him.
“He refused. He even tried to stop me from coming. I didn’t want her to be forced to do that for him.” My heart skipped a beat.” He’s a good kid… You must understand what this phase is like… I had to try for him.” She looked at my father and he took a deep breath.
“I wish I didn't know. This period is hell for any wolf.” She mumbled, running her hand over her face. Sophia…” she looked at me and I shook my hands.” It's you who decides.
“I… I…” I looked anywhere but at their faces.” I need to think.
"Clear." Sury stood up smiling. A weak smile, but with a smile. She was believing that I would help. Does she think I can help Joseph?” I've never done anything like that and from what I've heard from other female wolves, males get brutal in heat. I do not want it. I don't want. I don't want." I am going. Thank you for giving a little of your time.
"No problem. I'm sorry if she doesn't…” My mother led her to the door whispering the last part, but Sury nodded.
They said goodbye and the door closed.
“I don’t know how to do that.” I spoke quietly. They were both looking at me now.
“Daughter... It sounds scary, but...
“She doesn’t need to feel obligated to do anything. They can find someone else for the boy.” My father got up from the couch and came to the table where I was.
“She’s the only wolf his age. They won’t ask an adult wolf to be with a teenager.” Their conversation was only making the situation worse.
“Look, let me think more, okay?” I said, standing up when my father was about to sit down.
“No, this is important, let’s talk.” He pointed to the chair and I ended up sitting down again.” Uncomfortable subjects are also necessary.
Then I looked to the side when I saw my mother pull out the chair too.
Here we go...
“Your mother was my first wolf. And we were lucky to be mates. We were already dating when heat came for her and me.” I think if I were to go deaf just at this very moment, I would be grateful.” So our problems were resolved quickly, but you still don't have anyone for your heat and you know you're close.
“It could be a two-way street for you to help the boy.” My mother said it.” He didn’t look bad to me.” Someone kill me...” But if you accept that, Sophia, I don't want you to expect anything serious from him. It might happen, but it might not. I don't want you to force yourself to do something you don't want to do, much less hurt yourself.
“I know mom. Joseph is cool, it was different from those other two, but I’m not interested in him at all.” I tapped my fingers on the table, avoiding eye contact with them.
"Excellent. This makes it easier.
The next day, when I went to school and the bell rang to start classes, I saw Matheu, but I didn't see Joseph. Which was to be expected.
I spent the whole day thinking about this madness and what I should do. Maybe he could create a debt with me. It's always nice to have someone who owes you. If something went wrong, I could ask him for help too. Joseph is a strong, handsome, attractive young man, he has beautiful blue eyes, and blonde hair so messy and rebellious that I could tell it changed depending on his mood. One day is calm and well-behaved, on others there is chaos.
Okay, he was... interesting.
“Sofia.” I heard a male voice behind me and I recognized it as Matheu's.
"What it was?"
“Do you know anything about Joseph?” I looked at him as I put my things in my bag.
“Why would I know?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Because you two are... You know.” He widened his eyes and raised his shoulders funny.
"I don't know. I mean, from Joseph. I know very well what we are.
“Yesterday he seemed fine to me.
"Yesterday?"
"AND. I went to his house yesterday to resolve the matter about me knowing about you and he seemed fine. A little sticky with sweat considering it’s winter, but normal.” I almost laughed at the irony.
“Maybe he’s shitting again.” I shrugged and he snorted a laugh.
“Is he lactose intolerant or something?” Matheu walked away babbling.” Well, see you tomorrow.” And he left the room.
“Until…” She picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder before standing up as well.
